Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

wow, Zipman really looks like it could end next chapter, i knew the pacing was super fast but i still did not see that coming, if it ends with 12 chapters i could see them just releasing all of them in 1 volume and moving on

the other interesting thing is I'm amazed by pigeon-sensei for releasing 2 chapters this weeks and having both of them be the best 2 chapters in jump this week imo

I'm betting on it being 14 chapters across 2 volumes. That seems more likely IMO.

...Spring Weapon sold 10K for Vol 1.

Mitama did about 4K.

What is counting.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

Incidentally, between WNL ending in a few chapters, Zipman on the chopping block and Samurai 8 possibly at its doom, we're likely to see another batch at around the end of March.
In a month. Spring weapon did 10k IN A MONTH.

So I noticed that it's still only February, and this ToC thread is almost at 500 pages. That's significantly above where the 2019 thread was at in February of 2019.

What is happening in WSJ that is causing so much discussion? Is it KnY? Certain series ending? Kubo possibly returning? A combination of each? If you guys want, you can list reasons for the discussion explosion.

Because as it stands, we could end up with 2k pages, depending on what ends up happening this year.

More people, I'd say. Me, Hippo, BX and a bunch of others weren't actively part of the thread before the latter half of 2019.

I think it's a mix of
- new people, and certain long-time lurkers posting more (for the poll or otherwise)
- lots of new series all at once
- more focus on sales and rankings outside of the magazine recently (everything seems to start low making it hard to tell what'll do well from ToC alone)
- and what I feel like may secretly be the #1 thing, the death of very early leaks from MS and jimbox

Now we've essentially got more people and they're all reading the new chapters at the same time, since viz/manga+ is the best option and has a specific time they're released at. In addition to that, since viz translates all WSJ series (except Yuuna), many are probably reading more series from jump than ever before, since if you're going on to read kimetsu/black clover/mha/one piece you might as well check out that new manga that's conveniently right there next to it.

Mitama's a great example of that, probably only 3-4 people would be reading it here if it came out a couple years ago (since gag manga never get scans), but instead it's actually decently well liked within the topic.

We had a lot of debates on this forum this year. UxU, MHA issue, OPxKnY, some S8. So those definitely contributed.

I think it's because WSJ got moving again. I got into M+ and this topic around June 2019, and there were barely any series ending or starting until the end of the WSJ year (around November). Now, we've got five (seven?) very young series, probably with more on the way, so there's a lot more to talk about.

That is extremely unlikely given that only the first volume of a series has 7 chapters because of the extended first chapters. If it ends it should be around chapter 18.

Four new series started in May-June 2019, two new series started in March 2019 before that and two new series started im August-September 2019 afterwards. Jump was definitely "moving" at that time you mentioned.

I'd say chapter 16 (7+9) but ending on chapter 14 wouldn't be so unlikely if they put the one shot in the volume 2.
I wonder if they are making room for HxH

I'd say if it ends it should be early April and the next batch starts late April like last year.

Should it be that weird tho? I think having Social Media accounts should be one of the highest priorities for new series that want to promote themselves and also release social media campaigns like Mitama's. It's a really good way to find potential readers and create a bigger audience.
That's what I was getting at. I know series have been getting them here and there for a while (for promotion) but I wasn't paying that close attention to what got one and what didn't so I was unsure if there were any criteria to get one or when it usually happens in a series' lifespan.

So all that violence before was fine for all ages and yet this tame spread gave it an 18+?

Never change Viz, never change.
This is American culture to begin with. Anything with violence is fine, but anything involving sex is a nono

Cheese and Rice. Didn’t realize the thread jumped like 6 pages

I'm still not convinced WNL is ending yet, remember what Nisekoi did with Marika (that made everyone hate the series). It could go on for a good bit yet if every main girl gets their own arc.

Especially not with Yuuna also looking to be in its final arc (maybe?), I can't imagine WSJ would want both Yuuna and WNL ending about the same time with no new successful romcom to replace them (especially in their current state where they've only got 1 sports series left that may be in its final year, and the only gag manga are new at-risk ones). They need that genre variety right now.
