Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

I mean, it's still got quite a bit to go before breaking the most sold volume in a single oricon year, which is about 3.3 mln IIRC, so that might still hold up.

If it takes that one as well though it means kimetsu will sell something like 60mln this year though, which would be...something.
Volume 18 has already sold 2 million with reprints still going out and 9 months until the end of the fiscal year. I would be surprised if it doesn't sell more than 3.3 million this year.

So do you think KnY will beat Oricon's 2011 record 39 million record, quickest manga ever to sell 100 million, volume 67's first initial printing 4.05 million record ??

It already broke 2011 mid-year Oricon so the full year is probably gonna be broken too, but I doubt it will break every single one of OP's records sans its lifetime sales.
Yes, KNY might break all of those, it's probably just a matter of time.

I watched Eyepatch’s video! Like many have said, it’s really unfortunate that this video’s already on its way to being outdated, considering he’s worked on it for weeks, but that’s way more on Kimetsu for growing faster and faster. (It will outsell OP Volume per Volume by Volume 20 at this point, dethroning it in every way on top of the sales records it broke.) I think he had a good take on why Kimetsu blew up what it did, or at least a take I can get behind.

His take on We Never Learn I disagree with. I don’t think it’s not doing so hot because it runs in Jump, since I think romcoms have seen more success in the magazine.

It’s funny, his original video was what got me to start looking at the magazine as a whole in the first place, which eventually led me here. I honestly didn’t know that that one was really flawed, but I guess I learned over time.

EDIT: I’m surprised he didn’t talk more about the endings of Shokugeki and Hinomaru. Or like, at all, actually. Those two endings had wildly different receptions.

25 mins of my life that I'm never getting back, that video was a whole lot of nothing imo, he barley even talked about the series and the current state of their manga outside of Chainsaw Man, the video should've just been called "Top 10 selling WSJ manga of 2019", not to mention the ending with Kimetsu Vs OP used severely outdated info "One Piece is still doubling Kimetsu's per volume sales and is still King"
I mean... His channel has a BIG audience, obviously this information is nothing new to us 100 or so bunch of weirdos who actively follow and discuss WSJ, the TOCs, sales data (Yuck... data!), etc
So while it's nothing new for us, 100 or so WSJ otaku, it's probably new info for say the other 699,000 or so people that will probably wind up watching this video. (basing my estimations on his WSJ previous videos' views).

Sure the info on KnY is outdated, but then again KnY just sells at such a rapid pace that.. It's inevitable for info on it to be outdated.

On a positive note the video probably made some people want to check out some new series which is always good! (I know now I want to read Chainsawman lol, though I usually wait until a manga gets a season 1, watch season 1 and then read from there).

I got the feeling that he doesn't read majority of the series in the magazine, considering the descriptions he used for some of the series were about 3 secs long, all he said about Act-Age was "It's a good series with intense emotional edge but it just feels so out of place with the rest of jump"

Kudos to Chart Freak and Raf having their materials featured in a YouTube video.
I'm pretty sure the Samurai 8 first week sales for Vols. 1 and 2 is one of the most spread pictures in the whole manga community. There's reasons for it tho, but lmao.

Seriously, how much did that youtuber pay you, Buranchi? :derp
Was thinking about watching it yesterday, but after reading everyone responses, I changed my mind.

I posted it because the video has material from some of our (MH) users, like the charts and stuff.

Plus, he has nearly a million subscribers, and he full-on promoted CSM, so I can't hate him. It's clear his heart is in the right place, but yeah, he got some facts wrong.

AA totally deserved a shout-out as well, but I can understand it's not for everyone.

I like csm as much as everyone else, but aren't we supposed to have integrity?
Well, I was already concerned when the one who manage the poll is a bias user who still have faith in s8!?
I get we are all human with unique opinions and bias, but don't we have rules to follow them and make it possible for every member to converse in peace?

And how exactly did we not converse in peace? Ever since Buranchi posted the video everyone gave their opinions and everything went well. And so what if Buranchi posted it because of his love for CSM? In the end, the topic was still the state of Jump and that's what everyone was discusing. Damn friend, you're talking like no one here is allowed to show bigger appreciation for the series they enjoy the most or even post more about them. And as far as I'm concerned, Shinuki has been conducting the polls with integrity and even if he didn't, Buranchi would be keeping him in check. Him liking S8 doesn't make him less trustworthy. You're making up you're own rules here.

Hate.

Most people were disappointed with the manga.
After all, it was the return of the author of Naruto.

He is one of the few who defends samurai 8.

Between S8's initial sales and KNY's tripling its sales, it was a very remarkable time.

Is that a problem, though? We're still allowed to like series, even if they're not well-received. Hell, I liked Red Sprite. >_>

I don't really understand the integrity point Thunder made, though. I posted that video because it's on-topic with this thread, and it had high production values (by AniTuber standards). The CSM thing at the end was just a happy bonus.

I think that hate mostly came from /a/

Pretty exciting honestly, the debate whether KnY was going to surpass op or not was quite something. Also the pics form the bookstores lol.

Nothing, for example I like hungry joker and I know that nobody does.

I joined the conversation without knowing the context.

If you want to be pedantic about it, it was 5-and-a-half months. I was talking about the period between mid-June (when I joined) until late November (when the 2019 topic closed). Only 2 new series launched in that period (not counting the spin-off), which is very little considering they usually launch 11-12 series a year.

I know WSJ still launched an average number of series over the course of the entire year, but I never said anything about that. I was simply giving my opinion on why discussion was picking up more after the launch of the 2020 topic, compared to my first 5-6 months here.
Sure, but 4 series had just launched during that time when you joined and there was plenty of discussion about them, especially with Samurai 8. Oh jesus, all those endless Samurai 8 discussions...
