Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Well, let's bring another discussion then. Has there been other examples where a character has featured in other series popularity poll? (where that character is alien to that series)

Japan twitter brought up the Zenitsu/Sister Krone dynamic again

So a 90k drop over the course of the year. Is that how much it usually drops every year?

Nobody talks about the break of One Piece?
What's there to talk about?

I don't know why there are people surprised by the Neverland actress. In Japanese manga adaptations it is common for them to change the ethnicities of characters, as for example most children in Neverland, the characters in Attack on Titan and Fullmetal Alchemist are almost all European white.

Yup, thank a lot, fun police.
Anyway, what I intended with that reply was that I find what going on in kny right now is too tedious to have a discussion. At least, it's less boring compare to wnl nor as abhorrently dog turd as tpn.
I don't know if I'd say it's tedious, but it's definitely by the books currently. Nothing that's happened in KnY lately has really surprised me at all.

Not to say it's bad or anything, because I'm still enjoying it. But yeah, even without the topicality rule, there's not that much to say.

Well, aside from speculating if the series will be extended or not, I guess.

That's not what I meant. I meant, the discussion about Jump forcing it to continue due to the success.
If Nakano had the option, he would send two Binks trucks full of cash straight to Gotouge's apartment.

So that means that Samurai 8 sold more in France than in Japan??

@KoL2.0

There are a couple of properties I can think of whose new volumes probably sold more outside Japan, like Saint Seiya Next Dimension for instance, it probably sold more in countries like France than in Japan. I'm 100% sure that total sales outside of Japan are higher than sales in Japan for SS Next Dimension, and that's probably true for every other Saint Seiya spinoff manga.

Other franchises I guess could have sold more outside Japan than in Japan are Nintendo franchises like Pokemon Special or the Zelda mangas.

I tried googling Saint Seiya sales in France alone especifically for the newest manga which hasn't sold so hot in Japan (compared to the original franchise) but didn't find them, but what I found is that from 2003 to 2013 Saint Seiya manga sales in Japan alone were around 3.3 million, and worldwide it was 3.7 million which in total was 7 million.

Which doesn't really answer your question, but I guess my answer would be.. Let's say there is a new manga that Idk imagine is like an american Gintama, like Idk has weird crazy humor but related to more american stuff like say Donald Trump jokes Idk, it sells 10k in Japan but becomes a hit and sells Idk 50k volumes in USA..

So what I'd guess could happen here is that the manga gets cancelled in Japan (If we are assuming this particular manga ran in WSJ, because I think lots of manga sell 10k volumes outside of WSJ and continue, I think, I'm not completely sure on this one) but anyway it gets cancelled in WSJ but maybe a licensor in the USA might then pick it up? Like I can only assume 50k sales in a single market are super strong enough sales? If the author in this hypotetical case was smart enough he could idk continue this doing like a webcomic and publishing the volumes him/herself and selling them on the USA??

The closest example I can think of, even though it's not manga is the Ultimate Muscle anime that ran in Fox Kids in the 2000s, the anime was more popular in the states and there was an extra season or two made for the american market which 4kids commisioned or something like that.. So I guess the same would apply to manga.
As it was mentioned, it just say that Samurai 8 sold less than 45K in France, because he could know what manga in Jump sell that amount or more in France (and Samurai 8 isn't one of them). We don't know the exact number, but I reallly doubt is high.

It is really difficult that a manga can sell more outside Japan, especially in a single foreign market. In general, the amount of manga that is bought in Japan is a lot more than any other country (or even all foreign countries combined). That's why the industry always focus mainly on Japan.

Even the Saint Seiya example, it only sells more than Japan if you count all the foreign countries combined.

Not to mention that there is a correlation between these aspects. If a manga is not popular in Japan, this will hardly leave the country.

Thunder, we can't. Because, you know, discussing any deeper violates thread rules.
Well there's not a lot of good things to talk about Kimetsu at the moment. This current fight at the moment is a good example why the fights in Kimetsu aren't good.

That's subjective.
I've read up to infinity train arc and the fights until then were great and definitely a reason why I kept coming back to it. Gotouge knew how to set up tense fights incredibly well.

But that being said, I've not seen any fights after that though. So maybe the quality dipped after the infinity train arc.

As much as I do really like KnY, I have to agree that this fight really is below expectations. I was holding out hope for a while and putting up with the pacing, but some recent developments with Muzan have made the fight much less satisfying for me (Especially compared to Upper Moon 1). I still love the series and have been enjoying reading it, as far as final bosses go, I haven't really been feeling this one

The fights are good. My main complaint with the series is how it constantly pulled the:

- Enemy is seemingly defeated.
- Nope, still going.
- Repeat, over and over for 10-15 chapters.

All battle shonen do that to a certain extent, but KnY feels more egregious with the handling. It gets old really fast, and discourages reading it weekly.

I've dropped the series in the past and just asked friends who still read it if X fight has concluded, then I'll catch-up.
