Eh, not really. We still have korean/chinese scans. From there, it takes someone who knows the language to translate for us. However, are indeed of lower quality than the big-name scans from the past. But to declare early scans are dead is false.

That's... not how that works, Shin. It could be selling better and still ranked lower than the last volume, since it's not a 1:1 statistic.

I'm just going to say that we tend to talk only about Watsuki regarding that stuff, but Shimabukuro tends to get forgotten and ignored in these talks. Yeah, maybe he didn't know that prostitute was underaged, but he also did what he did (and as consequence, Takeshi was axed despite being almost as succesful as One Piece). Yet I don't see any of you saying "I'm not going to read Toriko because the author is Shimabukuro who hired an underage prostitute". Also, reminder Oda is best friends with Shimabukuro too (he was the only one who congratulated him when he ended Toriko, wasn't he?). I also recall Shimabukuro, like Watsuki, was in that Inagaki party from last year.

Same stuff for Shueisha, remember the Toriko milking in 2010. Also, remember how Kenshin has characters in Jump Force and Hokkaido is doing well in sales in Japan. I think Shueisha doesn't care about what Watsuki and Shimabukuro did because "it prints money", which is sad.

Uh more like the opposite...Shimabu always gets brought up and dragged into this again even though it happened to him like 15+ years ago. Do you know when Watsuki's scandal start to trend on twitter, Shimabu was also trending? So yeah, Shimabu's situation isn't forgotten and his case isn't even comparable to Watsuki's sickening fetish. I can tell you right now that Shimabu certainly showed a fuck of a lot more remorse than Watsuki, given that his scandal was far less worse than Watsuki.

Personally I think it's silly not wanting to read Toriko because of the creator's past that occurred like over a decade ago. Shimabu has gotten married since then and it's safe to say that he resorted to the prostitute as iirc he was feeling lonely during the serialization of Takeshi and had trouble maintaining a relationship at the time. Nothing wrong with that but what was wrong that she was underaged...which may or may not be something he knew about as we don't know 100% but I'm willing to give Shimabu the benefit of the doubt given what we know.
