Moderator Notice: Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.
These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

lol just now i realize the "exorcist" part and that the mc clothes looks more like a typical exorcist. Ehh, i just wish the author didn't turned the manga into a generic exorcist thing, the one shot was quite refreshing an had a similar feeling of what Undead Unluck one shot had, turning into just another exorcist series could be a shot in the head.
Viz is weird sometimes....
But I imagine that they started to veer away from Ecchi stuff in general after what happned to I"s. They did Video Girl Ai and Ranma 1/2 untouched before that, but those days are long gone.

...The oneshot doesn't have an English translation.
Anyway, of joys, another exorcist manga. I swear, alongside "generic gag manga", it might be the most unkillable parasite of Jump as a genre. That's not to say it's "inherently" bad, of course, Jump has gotten crucial parts of their canon through the genre such as YuYu Hakusho, Bleach, Shaman King and Jujutsu Kaisen, but it's hardly the sort of thing to get much excitement.

If it is to avoid unnecessary prolongation in kimetsu no yaiba, if you have another exorcism manga it is valid (preferably one that is successful, as well as kimetsu and jujutsu).
Quite fair, as it's more the cooking competitions that are the main draw of the story. Sometimes reaching the point of battle shonen parallels at times. Easy loophole to have it featured in the Viz Jump magazine compared to Yuuna, like you said.
Can we wait until the chapter's actually out before judging it, just this once?
Last batch the series people were most hyped for based on the teaser images is doing terribly (Guardian), the one everyone instantly disliked is now the favourite (Undead), and the one nobody paid any attention to is doing the best on the ToC (Mashle).
You can't base what a series will really be like based on previews or quick descriptions or even oneshots really.

No it wasn't. People really like to throw this around like it's fact, but I've never seen any evidence that I didn't find shaky(at best) that it's true. Remember, One Piece started serializing in mid summer of 1997. Rave Master started serializing in mid summer of 1999. In other words Mashima's as much Oda's contemporary as Kishimoto or Kubo are in that he's been a professional mangaka for only two years less than Oda has been. Only Mashima works for a different magazine, owned by a different publisher, and he's never talked about so much as reading WSJ series that were gaining popularity while he was busy making Rave Master.
I mean, Kishimoto ripped off Togashi series they had running nearly simultaneously (Sasuke, structure/setup of exams/how to find your chakra type/atasuki/the name kurama/tons of visual homages) in the same magazine. You can easily be influenced by stuff you're reading while creating.

Nobody thought that sans the typical newbies that don't get Jump. The types thought shit like Hell Warden Higuma or Red Sprite would make it big because they began serialization right when those readers were getting into Jump and they were unfamiliar with how the magazine works. Some people did like the one-shot, but by the time the first chapter actually dropped people realized they were served a turd.
The series was nearly universally seen as bad when it first debuted amongst those who generally follow the mag like we do.

I liked the first Hungry Joker chapter at the time, it had some cool and interesting ideas with a great art, the problem was everything fell apart after that.

Idk, this isn't really the place to discuss the series in depth. However, I didn't find there to be any interesting ideas. Just a generic battle shonen liberally borrowing from other manga (a lot of D. Gray Man), such as using magic disguised as (pseudo)science as a cover for its One Piece borrowed battle system.
Completely erased everything from the one-shot sans the name of the MC.

You're talking about the series as a whole, i was talking about the first chapter at the time, what you mentioned it's what got people's attention at first, the science, historic figures connected to the akuma no mi, Tabata's great art for a newbie + it started right after the last Reborn chapter so a lot of people thought it was "replacing it". But after the first one, all the ideas just fell apart.

I feel that, but I'm also talking about the first chapter.
I actually think the series improved as it went along (when gravity hammer guy joined the crew) but fucked itself with its early chapters.
The science stuff felt very poorly thought out, and the historical figures were basically nothing more than misrepresented namedrops.
It's not the place, no. However, since oneshots don't actually have dedicated threads/sections elsewhere on the site, there is no sanctioned area to discuss them.
So, having said that, I'll allow discussion on them, but let's try to make the discussions somewhat brief. The moment oneshot discussion starts to take over the thread, that's when I'll have to step in.
Do you think, if we get a new ecchi Yuuna-replacement, Manga+ will still do it even if Viz won't?
Viz didn't have Hinomaru Zumou from what I remember but Manga+ did so they have shown they'll do WSJ series that viz doesn't want, but I'm curious if they'll share viz's 'no pervy stuff' policy.
They most likely are not going to publish something like To Love Ru or Word´s End Harem because that would probably make them a +18 app in the Goodle Play and Apple Stores, in fact IIRC there was a chapter of I think Chainsawman that wasn't released in the apps, only on the website.
I'd imagine they would still publish something like Kenichi Mightiest Disciple or Shokugeki no Soma, y'know high in action, some ecchi but no sex. But they would not publish something like Tenjo Tenghe which is also high in action but definitely has sex scenes.

You forgot D-Grayman and (Although not WSJ) Blue Exorcist, also last year we also had another exorcist series, didn't we? I don't remember its name, I just remember it looked cool but failed :/ Buzobeats I think or something like that.
Also.. Genuine question, would you guys consider Kimetsu No Yaiba a "exorcist" manga?
I mean from what I saw (A couple of episodes, like 9) it kinda is, but it doesn't have spirits but monsters.. So I guess it kinda is... But isn't haha.
Like it kinda follows some of the "exorcist" manga cliches like the monsters kinda remembering their past before turning into (I think they are basically..) vampires? Stuff like that.
If stuff like Yu Yu Hakusho falls into the exorcist manga category, wouldn't Kimetsu be too?

You could see it as an exorcism in that when the demons are killed, some of them go back to human form in the afterlife - but that's a stretch. Monsters do have those remembering past flashbacks like you said but I still wouldn't classify it as an exorcist manga personally, though I may be wrong.

Whats the best one shot WSJ has published in the last 10-15 years, in your opinion, that never became a full fledged series? Just name the series and detail why you think it was the best you thought. No need to attack each other's opinion.
