Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

More "passion" projects like Hinomaru Zumou can prosper in the magazine

Kimetsu no Yaiba's 2020 sales: 38,191,494

Kimetsu no Yaiba has officially surpassed One Piece to become the best-selling manga in Oricon within a calendar year.
Whelp.

It happened.

For the record, what were Volume 14 or Volume 15's sales within the month like? It's been over a year since the anime aired, and I kind of need a reminder at how massive the series has become.

It's really nice seeing Kimetsu no Yaiba absolutely blow up in success and solidify itself in manga history, but I'm beginning to agree with others that things have been getting a little boring. The backlogs are hogging up 2 out of revery 5 slots that could be reserved for other series so they can receive relatively accurate data. I'm just lucky Kimetsu no Yaiba wasn't 50 volumes long. Imagine a Kimetsu boost for a 50-volume long series: Oricon would be straight up useless.

Still, I'm happy for the series. I enjoyed the first season and I'm looking forward to when the movie boosts sales so high, we all start to see the franchise as a sales villain of sorts once the excitement is gone. xD Here's to 100 million in print!

Congratulations to Kimetsu and Gotouge, this feat is quite incredible to even think about last year and its a really nice surprise it made it. Although, its a little bit sad that we dont got more info for the other series, specially the new ones, because of all the Kimetsu volumes backlog.

Gonna wait for a more reputable source than Oricon.. like Shueisha´s yearly report.

Joking in case it´s not obvious lol.
We dont have to wait for the yearly report, we will have the Half year one the next month if everything goes well in the world.

Also, Fairy Tail was influenced by one piece
No it wasn't. People really like to throw this around like it's fact, but I've never seen any evidence that I didn't find shaky(at best) that it's true. Remember, One Piece started serializing in mid summer of 1997. Rave Master started serializing in mid summer of 1999. In other words Mashima's as much Oda's contemporary as Kishimoto or Kubo are in that he's been a professional mangaka for only two years less than Oda has been. Only Mashima works for a different magazine, owned by a different publisher, and he's never talked about so much as reading WSJ series that were gaining popularity while he was busy making Rave Master.

Everyone, let's try to be a little sensitive with this current situation regarding KnY beating One Piece's best year in sales.

I know a lot of you are wanting to rub it in people's faces, but that kind of behavior isn't condoned here. Try to be mature about this, okay?

Pretty much this. OP fandom love to discredit Mashima on this, when in fact he came around at the same time as Kishimoto. Just two years removed from Oda. It's also something I resent most of the fandom for. I enjoyed FT for what it's worth up until the last arc, where things started to drag out and the Erza wank was getting ridiculous.

Art-wise Mashima and Oda just happened to have similar styles (in Mashima's earlier days). Nothing more. But some in the OP fandom spread those lies to assert their egos.

Plus, Mashima has one thing that every single Jump mangakas wish they had: His MONSTROUS work output. Gotouge seems to be the closest, though. And that's something I'll give props to Mashima forever.

I dunno, Rave looked less like One Piece than early Fairy Tail did, imo. I wouldn't blame anyone who sees this and says that Mishima was influenced by Oda's art:

It's kind of a funny thing. Rave Master didn't look a lot like OP, and that was Mashima's earliest work. Mangakas develop and evolve their art over the years, but early FT was like your weird, awkward teenage period in terms of his art development, which had the unfortunate coincidence of looking a lot like someone else's work.

Mashima has discredited this monstrous work output. Thanks to digital art, he only draw like 4-5 days per week. Oda on the other hand for example doesn't go digital, he hates it.

I mean, it usually is out on Thursday for me, which is tomorrow. I see no reason for the leaks to be early this week (since there are no holidays yet). The next one probably will though.

I just noticed that half of OP fanbase are MHA followers while the other half of OP fanbase likes to tread MHA like it doesn't exist. In both cases, the motive would be the same: "MHA is the successor of OP and Naruto"

Nah I doubt digital art was the reason Mashima once put out double chapters for fours weeks on a row. Even before going digital his work ethics was impressive.
