Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

I think it has to do with the fact that shonen magazine is more beloved and known for there romantic comedies than jump. Shonen magazine readers are more prone to read romance/ drama manga since those have really been the signboard works of magazine since the late 70s. Battle manga really wouldn’t take the magazine by storm until the late 90s. Shonen jump on the other hand has had battle/ nonsensical gag manga in as the signboard since the early 70s. While shonen jump had some romance manga that were pillars (video girl, I”s, and nisekoi) the main part of the magazine of shonen jump are the action, sports, and gag while shonen magazine are drama/yankee, sports, and romance.
Disagree, you're assuming that majority of 5-toubun volume readers also read magazine when that probably isn't the case (KnY is a fine example of this), 5-toubun just had the bigger anime boost and continued to grow while you can't say the same for We Never Learn, the anime did basically nothing for the manga while the series had 26 episodes compared to 5-toubun's 12

What is this supposed to be?
Someone noticed in one of the previews that Tanjirou seems like he's holding Denji's head (chainsaw) and made a fanart where he says "this is how it is" i think.

This ToC discussion got me curious about something.

What was the last series to hit dead last on its first ranking? The recent series mostly seem to get bottom half placements but not right at the bottom at first.
Since 2013: Kurokuroku (by Agravity Boys author), Tokyo Wonder Boys (by TPGW artist), Yoakemono (Zipman author), Buddy Strike (Ao no Flag) and finally Jimoto ga Japan, but thats a gag so who knows.

Keep in mind, the ToC is not true ranking so it could be a lot more or possibly less. This goes the other way too, because I'm pretty sure that since the mid 90s only two manga placed first at its first real placement, Eyesshield 21 and Hinomaru Zumou, while it should be pretty common for hit series.

You're again contradicting yourself, If Shonen Jump think Agravity Boy is a flop or not well received, why they didn't cancel it already? why they reprinted the manga? why they give a official twitter account? Why they didn't make anything like this for Mitama? Also calling the bottom the "place where flops go" isn't the best title since they still placing there series like Mitama, Yozakura, Undead, Yuuna and even Act-Age from time to time.
Jump has no reason to cancel things if they don't have anything ready to replace it. It's really as simple as that, it's not something they do for fun, you cancel a series to make space for another. Agravity boys could be at the bottom of the ToC simply because it's filling the role of the gag that jump likes to place at the bottom (lile sket dance) or it could be because jump actually considers it a flop, we don't know the whole picture, we never do and we never will.

The people buying the volumes and the people reading the magazine are different populations that only partially overlap, you shouldn't disregard either. Obviously sales are important but the voice of the people who actually read the magazine is just as important, if the people reading the magazine aren't enjoying a series and don't vote for it they might still consider it a flop even with acceptable sales; at the end of the day the difference between 5k and 10k is negligible to shueisha. Series with way better sales than AB have been canceled before, and series with mediocre sales have been allowed to continue in the magazine as well.

Well, they would get the respective mangaka off the weekly payroll, since mangaka receive a fixed amount of money for every page published.

And they don't always replace ended series with a new one, hence the number of running series fluctuating over the course of the years.

One Piece not in top 10 ouch. It's heartbreaking that people doesn't love One Piece anymore.

-New serie (a lot) will be annoncing in Wsj #27 & will start this month.
Wait, what? Are you sure? TPN has nothing in #27, no color page, no extended pages, nothing. Seems weird.

When you say “a lot” is that the series’s name or there is a lot of series coming?

Good riddance, also one of the "new" series is most likely going to be Burn the Witch

A lot of new serie coming.
Well let’s just hope there not full of gag series and we get some new sports ips. I personally would like a lacrosse manga as a new jump series. I know, I know they made an attempt but the manga was made when kuroko basket and haikyu were running so it has fierce competition. As someone who plays lacrosse I think the sport is perfect for jump for the sole fact that it is a physical sport they use poles as the way to play the sport.

Think about the crazy fights and moments that could happen in this manga considering jump likes to exaggerate there sport manga. I would also like to see an esports themed manga in jump. Outside of the game would consist of the slice of life, comedic, and character interactions. Inside the game would consist of a shonenfied perspective of the game (since it would probably be a fighting or shooting game). If it is a shooting game the player can speak through the virtual characters to each other to interact which represents them communicating through headphones/real time.

These would be seen as all out strategic wars which can cause great and interesting fight sequences (similar to world trigger). If it is a fighting game the fight would be seen as a battle shonen in our perspective. These would be the more strategic and slower paced one since each fight would detail the statagie and buttons the character would use. I could talk for hours about my shonen ideal sports shonen jump series but I don’t want to make it to long.

6 series round again???

Also, I’m currently rewatching Hunter X Hunter, and my hopes of Togashi coming to terms with the fact that series will never end unless he retires as a artist and hires and collabs with an artist while he writes, have revitalized.
Maybe this round will be the round that that happens <_>

Wait what, Neverland ending that quick? After these events I thought it would last for another 5 more chapters.
Yeah it definitely should have ended last chapter. The series just messed itself up with giving us all of this set up (unless we are getting a sequel series which I honestly hope that’s the case if the ending some garbage).
