Light is the villain of Death Note. He's not shown as the victim, or a good guy, or a well-intention nice guy who makes understandable mistakes, he's a monster who uses the book to pretend he's a god. Not to mention L is introduced in ch 1, and he's shown as an equally matched opponent in ch 2, so you're never left feeling forced to root for this villain. You can want Light to fail and still enjoy the series just as much, because you can side with L instead.
Ghost writer is not the same kind of thing at all, here the series portrays the mc as a victim who's doesn't have a choice and is doing the right thing in the circumstances, when he's very obviously not and could easily just admit his guilt. There's nobody else to root for either since everyone else in the series thinks he's the best.
The premise has tons of potential for cool plotlines, but seeing it focus the very important introduction arc on the main character being an unlikeable and arrogant idiot but treat it as him doing the right thing doesn't give me much hope that it'll explore them well. And you can't just 'wait to see what happens later' because it'll be cancelled by then if people don't like the beginning.
