Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Tamura's manga doesn't inspire confidence either.
to be honest, I think this is the weakest wave of the year, the only one that has any potential for survival is the Ayakashi triangle, because it comes in the place of yuuna.
You're prematurely judging 3 mangas you didn't read yet, i remember Rica literally treating Undead Unluck as "axed" before the first chapter was even released and here we are, Agravity Boys was the same thing, not to mention all the last hyped new series that flopped hard

Tamura new series will be, at least, a decent one and maybe the last gag series could impress, Mitama wasn't really inspiring much confidence when announced too

This wave hasn’t gotten me as excited or interested as previous waves, but that just means that there’s more room for pleasant surprises. I ended up largely liking Ayakashi Triangle and I’m slowly warming to Megu-chan.

Thinking now, Magu-chan really resembles Moriking a lot with being a comedy about a powerful creature living a regular life with a normal kid, could see Magu-chan being outshined by Moriking, but Tamura and the last gag series are different than Mashle.
The last series this batch could be something similar to that too, if it's about a boy and his ultra-competent (or incompetent) robot maid.

We won't know for real how each series is like until we get to read them though.

I can be wrong, I know it's too early to judge. But my "concern" is that we have a lot of comedy series and now we have two kind of established; Mashle and Moriking and I can't envision a space for any of those other three.
In order not to be unfair, Boku to Roboko should take Mitama's place, as he looks like he will be canceled. But the others will be more complicated.
This is a very different situation from that of undead unluck, there were not many comedy manga there now.
I'm not questioning the series, but the space of the magazine.

not a great time to post this cause ToC is gonna bury it but w/e

finally got around to translating MY LITTLE MARS (oneshot from earlier in the year). It's a rough translation, but better than nothing.

Isn't more accurate to say that Moriking is taking Mitama place? Moriking is literally a gag manga.

I get what you're saying about "too much comedies" and i agree that is too much at once but isn't like Jump is filled with new comedy hits too, Mashle is the only comedy hit so far, Moriking is too early to call a success yet, i have the feeling Roboko will be a gag with short chapters like Isobe Monogatari and Lycopene, which wouldn't be a surprise if gets a spot in the back of the magazine.

Some people keep assuming Magu-chan is gonna be a gag when I can see it just as easily being a Pokémon/Battle Monster series with some comedy thrown in. This is the one I was most interested when the new batch was announced.

Because most of the one shot is basically gag/comedy with the climax being more serious.

Damn I really liked that! I'd love to see it fleshed out into a series and get to know more of the world. Some of the art kinda felt a bit Fujimoto influenced to me, wonder if the author is a former assistant of his.

Wait, why are people assuming Moriking is safe? You definitely need to give it another 6-7 chapters at least. If it is safe, WSJ would definitely give it a CP.

When you get the best first ranking in the last 6 years people will assume it's being well received.

as someone else also decided to comment above about the one-shot I will also comment.

Honestly, I really liked it, I like the premise of the world and it has a good development for a one-shot. The art style, for some reason, reminded me a lot of Dungeon Meshi, which I like a lot. In conclusion, great one-shot.

I was wondering the same thing. Maybe people are just assuming things cause it seems like it's being well received on the internet?

This wave hasn’t gotten me as excited or interested as previous waves
Me, I have never really been excited about any waves.
Being a doomer, my motto is: everything has potential, potential to be shit.
Tbh, most of them gonna be axed anyway. And this is not exclusively a wsj thing, other magazines do this all the time, sometimes go so far that they axed the whole magazine ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
So far, I read a newbie because I was really amused by the author before (chainsawman, fire punch rides was really something), or incoming shitshow (s8), or fancy name (tpgw, dropped after 3 chapters ¯\_(ツ)_/¯), or overwhelming words of mouth and somewhat pretty volume cover (UU, Mashle) or just to spite the haters (mitama).
Now, I, maybe, plan to read moriking if its reputation keep improving and its first volume cover looks decent.
