Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Will you consider Magu chan as a comedy?

I'm considering it as a slice of life, because it didn't show anything as exaggerated as Mashle, Moriking, Agravity boys, Mitama and Bone collection.

Back again with another translation, not a oneshot this time though.

Also, this week's Jump was pretty good, usual suspects of CSM, JJK, UU and Mashle were great again, and Magu-chan was pretty decent.

Magu-chan is a comedic slice-of-life, but it does lean more heavily in the slice of life aspect, with a more light type of comedy instead of bigger and flashier jokes. Not sure how it will progress, but for now I feel it's something a little different, even if it's still clearly a comedy series.

MANGAHELPERS "TOC" POLL ISSUE #29 - BOTH WAYS OF VOTING!

The poll for issue #29 is now open HERE!

Last chapter of Guardian of the Witch and first chapter of Magu-chan. The extra series to vote this week are:

-Dragon Ball Super 61
-Boruto: Naruto Next Generations 47
-Jigokuraku 102

IMPORTANT DETAIL ABOUT THE VOTING

I did the change in the traditional poll last week where each vote for each series counts as 3 points instead of 1, after posting and everything i do agree with James Rye, it felt unbalanced since in the comment votes the 5th place kinda lost it mean with the value of only 1 point, so because of that i decided to make a little change in the distribution of points to balance things, now the point distribution in the comment votes will be:

1st = 9+
2nd = 8+
3rd = 7+
4th = 5+
5th = 3+

So now both polls are balanced again and that's the last change it will happen in the polls. Good votes.

I compare the comedy of Magu chan with the comedy that is seen in Boku no hero academia and Black clover and see that these manga are not comedy.

Magu chan was wholesome. I felt good reading it. You can be sure that there will be action down the road but the slice of life mixed with it's wholesome comedy works so well. Also that last page was hilarious. I definitely want to see more of this.

Mashle was so good. The art in that one page tho. Mashle's mangaka has been teasing good art in battles since the start but this one page definitely took it to the next level. I'm so glad this series exists.

Chainsaw Man. Good chapter. These past few chapters have been the calm before the storm (even though we just finished a storm).

Time Paradox - The ending has me intrigued. It's definitely something I expected to happen. Just not so soon. The rest of the chapter was ok. I'm losing interest slowly. But throwing in more time travel stuff will keep me reading.

Quickly opinions since i just gave a fast look at everything, Magu-chan seems nice, quite similar to the one shot, fun read but i don't know if the manga has what it needs to keep readers invested in the long run, seems like a concept that can get stale fast since isn't a gag manga in its core, but time will tell

Ayakashi Triangle is sooo Yabuki it's funny kkkk, honestly i can't see Yabuki fans and TLR fans not supporting it and also has the appeal for new fans outside of it

Mitama got me confused, one moment it seems is totally ending and now it seems like it was just a arc and nothing else is giving signs of ending so i don't know if we will actually have any other ending in this round.

Btw, didn't saw anyone post but Ayakashi Triangle got well ranked in that twitter poll, nice to see:

But ouch Ghostwriter, really wish isn't really a reflection of the actual reception...

This does not prove much, a few weeks ago bone collection was always at the botton, and at toc he started in 4th place.
I don't pay as much attention to this chart anymore.

We will see when its first volume is out. Paradox Ghost Writer is not Guardian of the Witch I don't see it getting axed below or at 19 chapters. The newest chapter might have had the timeskip to rush to the real meat of the story to avoid such a fate, so I dunno if that is a good or a bad sign. I would have liked to see this "twist" like two or one chapter earlier, but that's just personal taste.

Anyone can partake in those twitter Japanese polls. They're pretty useless

I thought Guardian had a pretty good ending actually for a mostly boring manga.

Now that it's axed, I wonder what will end next. People make it seem like Mitama isn't ending anymore, but Agravity doesn't feel like its ending either.

I really don't want them to axe Agravity until they at least see the next month sales first.

There's still space currently available for none to be cancelled at least till issue 31 right?

Mitama just abruptly ended the last serious arc... maybe Tsurune is trying to end on a happy point with gags?

I guess that could work too, by ending a gag manga with a comedic chapter in the end. This week will be interesting to see.

Everybody knows it, still a interesting thing to see some part of japanese readers opinions about.

Jump do have the space to keep all the new series without cancelling anything else for the moment but the thing is they always try to avoid having 21 series at the same time, but i could see a couple of issues having if Mitama isn't ending yet for some weeks.

Magu-Chan feels like the Jump version of Sgt Frog to me.

Keroro and him would be good friends actually.

Magu-chan: Again, only in English. I can't help but see this as a bad sign.

- Oh, great. A cult. (Am I the only one who got reminded of the end of Death Note?)
- Oh, great. An arrogant god-thingy. How novel.
- Is this an RPG? It looks like an RPG.
- Oh, great. Another ungodly powerful potentially world-ending ancient artifact that people just lost somewhere.
- Congratulations! You have been nominated for the award of most stupid WSJ main character of the decade. In just three pages. That's impressive.
- Kill it.
- ... That actually wasn't that bad a try. Nice serve.
- See, even the killer octopus thinks you're stupid.
- Nice punch. Is it possible to get into middle school with a sport scholarship?
- Yeah, it's gotta be.
- The killer octopus isn't that smart either.
- This got old already.

So far, it feels like a cross between "Time for Torture, Princess", Mizore-chan and Bone Collection. But Time for Torture is funnier, Mizore-chan is more original and Bone Collection has better action.

I'm not completely writing it off yet, but the second chapter will need to distinguish itself more if it wants to survive.

Ayakashi Triangle: The unnecessary panty shots annoy me. I can overlook that sort of thing if the story is really good (like in Btooom), but if this becomes a monster-of-the-week thing, it's not gonna hold my interest.

Dr Stone: You are both underestimating and overestimating the enemy at the same time. I love it.

Bone Collection: Is it me or is the art even less polished than usual this week?

Time Paradox: New wave of Corona in 2030, confirmed.

lol, Undead Unluck became self-aware.
I don't really like her dress though. Not entirely sure why. The top kind of reminds me of a space suit?

WNL: Yeah, this kind of story really doesn't work so well when you already know the ending.

Moriking: So you can summon butterflies, grasshoppers and beetles, but not ants or cockroaches..? Yeah, I call bullshit. He was just trying to make the kid feel better about himself.

Mashle: The first half was basically OPM, if OPM was even more self-aware (that "There goes the dramatic tension" made me laugh out loud). Second half was basically just set-up, but promising.

Mitama: The 'final arc' was wrapped up off-screen. I'm still not sure what that means.

Act-age: The fact that they keep using the word 'actor' for the person they are playing really throws me off. Is this Manami a guy? Are they doing crossplay? (Wikipedia says it's a girl's name) Or did the M+ translator just suddenly forget that the word 'actress' exists? They were using it before...

Black Clover: This is as classical as it gets.

Guardian of the Witch got a mostly decent ending after all. They even took care of all loose ends. I hope the mangaka comes back soon with a new idea and improved storytelling and pacing.
