Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

SxF might be more popular outside Japan simply because of the resources available to manga fans and how manga and anime are more mainstream now than it was in 2012 - 2013.
But, that doesn't mean it's more popular than AC was in Japan. AC was a big thing in Japan and correct me if I'm wrong but didn't AC reach 1 million sales (for Vol 1) faster than SxF did?
Indeed.
AC Vol. 1 sold 261,509 units in 2012 (3 weeks of sales) and then 756,451 in 2013, for a total of 1,017,960 in 55 weeks. Using Shoseki, we find that it reached 1m units in 52/53 weeks.

SxF did so in 56 weeks.

The record holder is Sakamoto, which sold 1,013,750 units in 48 weeks.

However, considering SxF has stayed in the top 100 (even close to the top 50) longer than AC Vol. 1 did, it will soon beat it launch-aligned.

And Sakamoto's sales are impressive, but its other volumes don't come close to its first one, unlike SxF (after a year of sales, Vol. 2 was almost 400k behind Vol. 1, whereas for SxF, its Vol. 2 is less than 100k behind Vol. 1)

Going back to 2020's heroines.... look at how much space Suzu (Ayakashi Triangle)'s taking up. I know it's Yabuki's series, so he should promote it, but damn. I think she has about as much space as Uraraka. And who is the girl to her right?

Yeah, Yuuna looked a bit too off for me to say it was drawn by Miura. Shame he didn't do a Heroines drawing. Or maybe he did and we just need to dig it up.
If I'm not mistaken Suzu isn't on the colour page. You can see Matsuri there though. Plus there's exactly 20 heroines, so you probably mistook another heroine for Suzu.

That's mainly because the other series that debuted with him were even worse than Samurai 8. For example I doubt Mashle would be any less popular if it had debuted alongside Samurai 8.
This has no way of knowing.
Nothing would prevent something like this from happening.

Yeah. The one beside Matsuri is Hardboiled and Dolphin’s FMC.

Hopefully next year Shiro (Act Age artist) gets to draw Jump Heroine

Jump Heroine in Traditional clothing HYPE?
Hell yeah. I’d be down for that. If we’re lucky, we could get it this year.

Haven’t seen anyone post this yet, they are a really talented duo. If TPN wasn’t rushed and maybe had 50 more chapters to flesh out characters more, have more impact on character deaths, done a better job with queen/ peter ratri fight, and put more detail into the lore of the series it could’ve been shonen jump’s greatest manga this decade. It could of even reach death note levels of quality if it was more fleshed out imo. Even then TPN is still an great series to me and is worth reading for the grace field and Goldie pond arc alone.

Considering this volume has been released a year ago, how does this milestone look in comparison to MHA?
It's not even on the same scale. As of April 10 2016 (a year and a half after volume 1 dropped, in november 2014), My hero academia volume 1 had sold 519,307 copies. This is the week the anime's episode 1 aired and made it re enter the chart. For comparison, Spy x family's volume 1 dropped in july 2019, and as of the end of july (so just a little over a year), it has already crossed the 1 million mark and isn't showing any sign of stopping. So basically, it is outpacing MHA by over double.

While My Hero Academia had an explosive start in terms of sales, its growth wasn't as great and the series' sales were mostly stagnating prior to the anime airing. I tried making that a little clearer on the graph:

Not only that, MHA's peak sales in 4 weeks were 592,935, achieved in 27 days by volume 21. Spy x Family's volume 4 already got as high as 539,783 in 26, and shows much better resilience in the chart than MHA ever did. I fully expect the series to surpass that peak with volume 5 and quite handily, volume 6 at worst.

okay let's do some initial detective work

First four at the front left to right
Dr Stone, Black Clover, We Never Learn(?), One Piece

Next three in the top left
Mission: Yozakura Family , My Hero, Mashle

The Big Three on the right
Chainsawman, Jujusu Kaisen, Act Age

Next three to the left
Akayashi, Dolphin, Time Paradox

Last 7 are blurry but I do see
Magu-chan, Robo Maid

The rest would be
Undead Unluck
Agravity Boys
Moriking
Mitama Security
Bone Collection

My guess:
Unluck is the girl that sits down at the bottom of the group.
The one at the top with the raised hand is from Moriking
To her right is Paira from Bone Collection
The one under Roboco is from Agravity boys (and is actually a boy? I don't read the series)
The last one is from Mitama for exclusion (I don't read that either)

I mean, why would it be less popular? The series would stay the exact same. Sure, a veteran author is going to attract more readers. But that doesn't mean that automatically less readers than usual are going to check out the other new series. The additional readers that veterans get are most likely to be people that don't follow Jump as much anymore and decide to read just this one manga because it is drawn by a known veteran.

If anything, I'd even expect the opposite to happen and the amount of readers that check out the new manga from the same serialization round to increase. There might be a lot of people that just come back because of a veteran mangaka returning and then check out the other new manga. It's all speculation but it makes way more sense imo than the casual readers that read every single new series suddenly skipping a new series because of a veteran mangaka returning.

Posting this just in case it isn’t 100% clear
Ah, so I confused Nobara for Suzu, then. That would make sense. I should get around to Jujutsu when I have the chance. And to the right is Yonagi, I see. This makes a whole lot more sense.

Also, wow, Yabuki actually included Chris in here, unlike last year's Heroines cover. xD Also, he must have drawn Nami with some thick legs, even when you do count perspective. Uraraka's really cute here, as well!

So there's two tiers I can see. The established series, whose characters are very prominent in the photo, and the newbies, whose characters are less prominent and almost bunched up together in one space.

Yozakura's kind of in the middle of the two tiers, and I dunno what that says about it's survival chances.

Spreading anime relies on the presence of an anime, SxF has none, and news relies on people spreading news about series they read, SxF is still niche and has few if any readers even among the more mainstream casual people carrying weight and clout. Even a search on youtube brings up 0 prominent youtubers generating any Spy x Family exclusive video with any meaningful number of views, Even prominent sites like ANN and other ani-manga news sites has few if any articles on SxF, and the one non manga/anime site it got mentioned on has little if any reception or noteworthiness, look how little reception the tweet even received. It is hard to see how Spy x Family is popular outside of hardcore jump circles when it has little to no presence thus far in time.

And for places to read SxF, again mangaplus is a new and niche site (low page views), many people still dont know about it or read manga there (why are most screenshots from people on twitter, still non official versions of mainstream mangas, or rehosted ones from manga aggregate sites, and not the mangaplus one?).

New people getting into manga and anime, wouldn't come anywhere close to SxF as theres no one speaking of this manga to bring it up to them, no one is adding it to listing articles (example "So you liked [insert anime] on Netflix, here's 10 other Japanese series you should check out").

I don't think it is logical to assume SxF is more than a middling niche series outside of jpn at this point in time as the data available really suggests otherwise and could be argued to be less popular than AssClass was in 2012.
It's hard to gauge a manga's popularity outside of Japan.
It obviously doesn't mean much, but I tried to compare the tweets announcing new popular manga being published in France.

Jujutsu Kaisen (Ki-oon / currently 39.3k followers), June 28 2019 - 141 RTs / 235 Likes
Demon Slayer New Edition (Panini / currently 16.3k followers), July 24 2019 - 291 RTs / 414 Likes
Act-Age (Ki-oon / currently 39.3k followers), October 11 2019 - 379 RTs / 663 Likes
The Quintessential Quintuplets (Pika / currently 65.9k followers), October 16 2019 - 505 RTs / 816 Likes
Chainsaw Man (Kazé / currently 93.9k followers), December 2 2019 - 296 RTs / 751 Likes
Spy x Family (Kurokawa / currently 50.5k followers), June 10 2020 - 584 RTs / 1,150 Likes

More RTs/Likes don't lead to better sales though : right now, in terms of sales, I'd say DS > JJK > Chainsaw Man > TQQ > Act-Age

Personally, I think Shun and Taishi nailed Ochako better. I just think she’s a little...off here. The full version could change my mind though.

I don't really recognize yonage for a moment. She is usually not very sensual.

I just found it cute that she's floating, as in Shun's renditions. I think it's more that Shun and Taishi's renditions show a bit more personality in theirs.
