Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

I thought that with all the big series that have ended and all the new series that already debuted in 2020, even the current weakest series would have had more time to breathe and would have survived until at least fall (or until at least the latest batch is getting ranked).

Are we on par with the average number of mangas that have debuted from December to August, compared to the previous years?
Never underestimate how ruthless WSJ is when a manga doesn't reach its expectativas.

As the are less manga, they have probably allowed them to last longer, but WSJ will probably find it more convenient to try new series.

Magu-chan was an enjoyable read, as always. The author knows exactly how to play his characters and it definitely pays off. In contrast to that TPGW just doesn't work. The story practically passes by without making the reader feel anything. This will end soon, no one can convince me otherwise. The author is playing all his cards but that doesn't help, because in the end the manga is still about the characters and the mangaka failed to make them appealing.

If Mitama really ends, I hope we will get that one question answered.
What is the deal with Rena's father and Secureity?
And honestly, I'm glad if it ends. I like Mitama, but I feel like we've seen enough of these characters. It was a good time but in my opinion Mitama doesn't have the potential for 100+ chapters.

Next issue is going to be crazy:
-First Jump groupal cover without Tanjirou, Hinata and Emma
-Yabuki heroine poster
-Ayashaki Triangle first ranked chapter
-Mitama final chapter
-The One Piece chapter that made the editor to cry
-Hero Academia consecutive color pages
-The issue 38 preview that very potentially will show the new round of serialization aka Burn the Witch and the second manga that would be serialized on issue 39

This week's top 5:
1. Mitama Security - Such a heartfelt chapter. It seems like Mitama's incredibly generous run is finally coming to an end, and I really hope the series can have an amazing and wholesome ending that matches the tone of the whole series thus far.
2. Magu-chan: God of Destruction - Hilarious chapter. Magu-chan is the perfect blend of arrogant and unintentionally caring. I hope it gets good rankings.
3. Chainsaw Man - I'm not crying, you're crying. For the love of everything, protect Power at all costs!
4. Undead Unluck - Gosh, you can't help but feel bad for poor Tatiana. I'm at least glad she seems to have had a good parental relationship with Billy.
5. Act-Age - The build-up in this arc has been my favorite over the past few arcs. I'm feeling pretty hyped for this taiga drama.

The best of the rest:
6. Mashle - The art used in both spells was excellent. Eagerly awaiting the next battle.
7. Mission: Yozakura Family - Good chapter. The author does a pretty nice job making the characters' serious poses look super cool. Still needed some Mutsumi.
8. Moriking - Pretty funny chapter, even though some of the bug mating humor was a little odd at times.
9. We Never Learn - Glad that this arc ended, but I suppose it was as good as it could be. Felt pretty safe and generic when compared to the other 2 previous arcs, like all of Fumino's arc chapters could've been merged into 2 or maybe 3 chapters and it would've had the same impact. Uruka route > Fumino route > Riza route
10. Ayakashi Triangle - Kind of a strange chapter. I'm not really a fan of that other ninja guy.
11. Me & Roboco - This basically ended up this high mostly because the others below it were so bad. Not really funny, but not outright atrocious this time.
12. Hard-Boiled Cop and Dolphin - I'm not sure this series knows what it wants to be. Half completely out-there and not that funny comedy, half strange serious moments. The whole ocean theme doesn't seem to be working that well for me.
13. Agravity Boys - Thank goodness this arc seems to be over. Maybe we'll finally get some HDB again.
14. Bone Collection - Even without the ID thing, it should be painfully obvious that this is getting axed. This was probably originally meant to be at least a volume's worth of battles and developments jammed into a single chapter. I feel bad for the author, but hopefully they'll take some time to improve their artwork, storytelling, and pacing.
15. Time Paradox Ghostwriter - Really disliked this chapter. This also feels like it's barreling towards the ax at full speed. It wouldn't surprise me if this ends the issue after Bone Collection. A real shame that Date's artwork got attached to such a chaotic story.
Huh, that is possible. Ending on Chapter 14 would make for two volumes worth of content, and would match the IDs. Plus, the rankings haven't been doing so hot, and a significant amount of JP readers actively dislike it (seemingly). The final, definitive nail would be sales figures, which we'll get this week. If those suck and the next batch has three series, I wouldnt put it past Jump to cancel it.

Though... hoo boy. Its the most popular newbie out of the bunch, so this will be quite a few people's first real experience of The Axe. And isnt TPGW Date's third attempt at a Jump manga? Would he even be allowed back in Jump afterwards? I hope the dude can make a hit soon, his artwork is really good! The best out of the newbies in Jump, along with Ayakashi.

Mentioned it before, but since he did just the art for 2 of the 3, the three strikes thing won't apply to him (see Obata for an example).

Though I imagine only 2-3 more chances after this one.

Well Date's just doing the art for this one, so I'm not positive if the "three strike" rule would still work the same way if the third attempt was art-only. If Jump doesn't work out for him and he doesn't want to try out his luck with Jump+, I hope he tries his luck with either Magazine or Sunday. Those magazines seem to be more inclined to serializing romcoms.

Funnily enough, the series Date was also the writer for (Cross Account) was the best received of the three in Japan. Granted it still got cancelled early, but in the late 20s at least compared to Tokyo Wonder boys being U19 and Ghost very possibly joining the club too. If it was the series running now, perhaps he could be doing well.

I wonder if he'd do better just with his own ideas since drawing for someone else clearly isn't working out.

His art's certainly far too good to be one of those artists who leaves the industry after multiple failures at any rate. Perhaps he'll get put on a spin-off or game tie-in manga or something if he's maybe not interested in writing much (or struggling to get stuff accepted).

I think that after that he won't come back. there were 3 manga, 2 cancellations. But id was not pointed out anything about the TPG cancellation.
I think you are getting too far ahead.

And another after so much criticism and unfounded controversies, if I were he would not come back to draw anything.

Didn't Cross Account sell between 20k and 30k as well? If Jump+ was as big then as it is now, I could've seen that doing quite well on that platform, especially since it had the emphasis on the whole social media/app thing in the series.

Having read the scans for Parasol Alliance and figuring out as much as I could from the raws of Ao no Hako, it feels so Weekly Shonen Magazine lol (not that this is a bad thing) I wonder why he jumped ship and started trying at Jump.

The controversy would affect more the author, not the artist.

Also, people just not stop working because their job is criticized (all manga are going to have critics, so manga ja have to deal with it). And the artist of Ghostwriter was not even criticized in this case.

sorry but it's a lot of humiliation. the guy spends a lot of time without sleep and without rest, after all we know that the work of a mangaka is ungrateful. Only in the end is my manga canceled for an unnecessary reason.
Sorry but it's a matter of having self-love and pride, and not humiliating yourself.

Well this week was certainly something. Let's see...my top 5...

1. Chainsaw Man
Honestly, there's no way I could give it to anything else. The paneling, the Spiderman 2-like moment...this chapter was perfect. One of the best chapters in the series, really.
2. Dr. Stone
A lot of tension and involvement from tons of characters. The last few pages did it for me, though. What a fantastic buildup. Can't wait to see what happens next.
3. Black Clover
This surprises me, because I usually don't think much of Black Clover. The artwork and pacing were absolutely on point, though.
4. Undead Unluck
5. Agravity Boys
I don't have anything specific to say about these two, really. I just find that I love them week to week.

Other thoughts:

- Too many interruptions in this week in We Never Learn. I expected more, and the ending didn't hit me as much as I would've liked it. Looking forward to my favourite character's arc next week.
- Mashle fell flat for me again. I'm really bored of Lance.
- If Mitama is truly ending, then I'm okay with it. It's been rather poor for me for the past few weeks. Moriking and Magu-chan are doing so much for me to elevate my mood week to week. We don't need any more new gag series.
- Hard Boiled Cop/Me & Roboco genuinely surprised me this week when it came to comedy. They still don't work for me as a whole, but this was a good week for both of them.
- Good riddance to Bone Collection. Another member for the U19 club! Yay!!!
- Time Paradox Ghostwriter continues to spiral downwards. This disappoints me. I was really hoping the "When one big series ends, another one begins" pattern would really stick, but this series has dropped the ball in every way.

If the manga is canceled, it is because it doesn't reach an audience. That's always a possibility with a manga, any author or artist should be ready for that.

Maybe you think the reason why it doesn't reach an audience isn't fair (although I think there are many valid reasons why you can dislike Ghostwriter), but you should accept that people won't like some things.

Dont know where all the people thinking Time Paradox Ghost Writer could be racing or speeding towards an ending are coming from.

A time series where the main character has no role in traversing time would seem odd. Quite sure its all as the writer planned in the time the writers wanted.

Reminds me of people going Agravity Boys would end before chp 19 yet here we are at chp 30.

Well, Ghostwriter is at the bottom of the TOC (under Bone Collection this week). So, its reception doesn't seem good.

We will know about sales within two or three days.

I agree. This chapter didn't feel any closer to ending than any of the other previous fast paced twist ending chapters did.
