Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

I guess we're about to find out if all publicity is good publicity, regarding TimePara.

an important nuance that's been left out of the TimePara debates, it's not the act of plagiarism in-of-itself which has lead to its negative reception. It's Sasaki's continued actions of taking an easy way out over genuine self-improvement
That has been discussed too, and I don't think it's true at all. He has gone through plenty of change and self improvement, entire chapters have been dedicated to improving his art and execution to recapture the essence of the original, but it's not in the focus because this isn't something straightforward like Bakuman.
All of these criticisms come from the fundamental misunderstanding of what it is, because it's not a mangaka's journey navigating the manga industry, but a time travelling character draman and study that touches on creative philosophies, that happens to use the manga industry as a setting.
Focusing more on those complains would take away from what it's trying to do and turn it into just another manga about mangakas.
And it's still baffling to me how people can't differentiate between portrayal and approval and why they suddenly want the MC to be the paragon of justice (i know, plagiarism, even under this circumstance, is worse than murder). Only cool and badass characters can pull that off? If he was there would be no story to begin with.
Not that I'm saying the manga is perfect, far from it, but these are absolutely not its problems and their approach is completely misguided and kinda childish.

Taishi Tsutsui commented on Ao no Hako's one-shot saying he found it really interesting, and Miura Kouji answered him revealing that his favorite girl is Fumino and that he was really honored to be published on the issue of Fumino's final chapter. Seems he's starting to have good relations already with some mangaka in the magazine. If you go through the mentions of Miura's tweetline, you can see there's still more mangaka congratulating him and commenting on his one-shot, mostly mangaka from Kodansha (WSM and Magapoke) and even some Young magazines' mangaka.

Wow, it's kinda amazing how massive a response Ao no Hako has gotten across the industry. Has a oneshot even done that?

I think one of the reasons for this reception, aside from the one-shot being a really good piece of work, is that this mangaka has gone through a lot of work already in different editorials. He has 2 series, one from Weekly Shonen Magazine (Sensei, Suki Desu) and another one from MangaBox (Aozora Rubber). He had another one-shot at WSM, Haru Returns, and has now appeared at Shueisha with these 2 one-shots, Parasol Alliance and Ao no Hako. And I honestly don't discard him working as an assistant for way more authors. I think all of this work has made him get a lot of connections and friends over all the manga industry since the amount of popular authors interacting with him is already crazy. It's still really nice to see mangaka from different editorials praising the work, shows that all the effort has paid off.

Gifts.

Pretty cool posters for both series.

Sad that they made the stickers with 2.7 and not 3.

Holy shit they made something for Yozakura. And it looks cool.

That's a reaaaaaaaally cool stand.

Sounds to me like Blue Box is the next one getting serialized right after WNL ends. They both seem to be on really good terms with each other. I wouldn’t be surprised if Taishi already put in a few good words for the author, and if the online reception is anything to go by, it definitely seems to be the most likely to be serialized soon.

Wow. I genuinely thought they had forgotten about Yozakura at this point. Now let's see that anniversary cover.

Is there a risk that anime production may be delayed?

What touches on creative philosophies? They barely do did, they could have touch it if the MC went to his sensei to improve his work and made WK his own, but he didn't, I can't see how or when he made that work his own, I only see him "working hard" but I don't see the process. We also didn't heard(or barely) other assistant points of views asides the female MC, which would made the setting more rich.
If you want to made a non-conventional MC great,I love them if you do it right, but he isn't a non-conventional. He is your typical Shonen Jump MC, but with your typical time travel setting that try to justify the plot with the "if you lose , she will die".
That's the problem, they made the setting about "I give this manga for the future to save the girl". Is not about a man who have a Jump from the future an use it, is about a man who have a Jump from the future and he need to "steal"(i don't believe it's plagiarize tho) because "the girl will die". I don't have the problem with the second , but in this case it didn't work.
It didn't put the MC in a rough situation,in which he isn't the paragon of justice, he put the MC in a situation which he became the "white knight" (heh) to save/evangelize the damsel from her shitty and autodestructive believes.Peak conventional shone MC

I frankly have to wonder if a large of the differing reactions to the series in the east and west is because the west simply doesn't have in large the ideas of self-improvement of the human being that are culturally baked into the east through Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism. To the western reader, Sasaki comes off the underdog who deserves to be given a break by life, while the eastern reader would perceive him as someone intensely selfish and unable to genuinely change as a person. It's the same reason why Rock Lee is often argued by western Naruto fans as "wasted", because his narrative appeals to the very simplistic "you just haven't gotten the chance" worldview.

Well, we can't really say there is a different perception between the West and the East, since we only heard groups of people of people from both sides.

I think that the Top 3 reviews on Amazon for TimePara are all very negative paints a pretty clear picture. Ditto for the praise its gotten from even the likes of Mother's Basement in the west.

Maybe we can't get an absolute, but I think there's enough evidence to ascertain the dominate opinion.

It is still just a group of critics in the West that may like the premise, we don't know how it will be received in general. Do you know what the big japanese critics say about the manga?

"The underdog who deserves to be given a break" is likely what the japanese author tries to convey. Honestly, I just think the author doesn't convey this properly.

The author seems to be desperately trying to make us feel sorry for MC, but it feels forced.

By your logic it actually should be reverse: Japan should accept Sasaki because he honestly wants to improve and west hate him because what started bad will end bad and cant change. Plus the whole thing that west doesnt have self-improvement ideas isnt true I believe. People just doesnt like to remember this because it came from christianity and now people in th west like to talk about their own religion as little as possible. There are good reasons for this though.

Sasaki's form of improvement isn't improving himself under Eastern belief perspectives because he's doing all of it to "respect Aino's work". The separation is crucial because it shows him not improving for himself and others, but to justify himself.

Incidentally...

Seems the first volume outright rewrote dialogue so to delete explicit mentions of Sasaki committing plagiarism.

Its not going to help though... In the end I dont think west actually like Sasaki.I think they like interesting plot. They prefer to have very flawed protagonist if it means having decent manga instead of 1231 exorcist manga with absolute hero protagonist
