So getting back on topic, Cop and Dolphin's first rank is next week, what's everyone's guesses on how well (or not well) it'll do? Also now that we've got a new batch upcoming, how about some thoughts on the previous batch so far? my ranking and thoughts

1) Magu-chan - there are other series right now with a similar "normal kid gets crazy strong pet" but this one stands out the most to me because it's style of comedy is very different, it has a relaxing slice of life feel to it compared to Moriking and Roboco both being nonstop crazy gags and constant tsukkomi routines

2) Ayakashi Triangle - despite the generic setting and characters this is growing on me a lot, it's never going to be one of my favourites but it's a great low-stress series to have between the intense battle shounen so I like having it around

3) Me & Roboco - gags are very hit or miss so far but they come so fast that the misses are gone quickly, I don't particularly dislike it but I don't really care about it either

4) Cop and Dolphin - this one just doesn't stick with me at all whether with the characters or gags or plots, but I didn't like Beelzebub or Hungry Marie either so maybe Tamura's style in general just isn't my thing
Mine would be
1. Magu Chan - Was never expecting to like this series but it definitely blew away my expectations and I absolutely adore it

2. Hard Boiled Cop and Dolphin - The first three chapters didn't really stick for me but all the chapters after that were hilarious. Tamura's knack for comedy is rare. I'm expecting it to get ranked poorly tho, atleast for the initial chapters. But we will see.

3. Robocco /Ayakashi - I don't care for either of these two. If I had to choose, I'd put Robocco above Ayakashi just because I appreciated some of the jokes in it even if it seemed outdated. That said, I've stopped following both.

Hello to everyone, i generally just lurk around, but i would like to know the opinion of the people of this forum, about this:
Personally I don't like the depiction of children's sexualities at all in any media, which is why I stray away from a lot of american comedies and pornographic content.
Sexuality is very complicated and kids should get to know themselves better before seeing material that shows how they "should act/be"
I don't care for the guys' projection, but I agree that labels could be helpful, especially now that Jump is trying to appeal to a worldwide audience.

Damn, this is a pretty big jump from the last print number right? Nice to see, wonder when it'll hi 10 mil.

The stone moves!!!

I think C&D will get middle ranking, there aren't many stable series so more newbies have been getting good rankings.

1. Magu, fun, laid-back, and wholesome, I like it.

2. C&D, it's fun when it doesn't focus on boob jokes. Hoping dolphin gets more panel-time.

3. Robocop & Ayakashi Triangle, I dropped both.

So many things in OP would be 'problematic" for a kids block, specially all the fanservice, hot girls with big boobs everywhere, Nami would be a outrage for mothers and etc.
Are we talking about the anime or the manga?

Because the anime has those problems but the Manga has 4 "fanservice scenes" in 900 chapters so it doesn't deserve the echi or sexual content label.

It most likely includes Volume 17 initial print given we're around 2 weeks from its release, but still: Dr. STONE surpasses Medaka Box, Shape Up Ran, ****** Kamen, Haleuya II BOY, Saiki Kusuo, Jujutsu Kaisen; ties with Sexy Commando!!, New Jungle King Tar-chan and Bobobo.

You guys really are having the wrong discussion. This seems to be about 'Sexual violence' specifically, not sexual content or graphic violence or whatever.

He doesn't want to label series depending on whether they have erotic content, he wants something like putting a message saying 'The author and editorial do not endorse this kind of behavior. Please don't emulate it in real life' every time Mineta pulls something bad or some such.

On the topic of having content warnings, I would support that. We have it in movies already, it's really not a massive step for other media to also give viewers a heads up for specific content they might not want to watch.

As for the new batch, I'd rank them:
  1. Me & Roboco - It's made me laugh every week, even if it's nothing extraordinary. The same can't be said for a lot of the comedies running in the magazine right now.
  2. Magu-chan: God of Destruction - I think it's got a certain charm but I also feel the art undersells it; it feels rough in a way that just reads as unrefined. I'm not sure if its story really has longevity or if I'd even want to read it for a great length of time.
  3. Hard-boiled Cop and Dolphin - A weird, underbaked premise with cheap gags that fail to land. Despite their absurdity the characters are really bland. I don't understand what the series is trying to be.
  4. Ayakashi Triangle - Don't read ecchi so can't really rate it. I'm sure it does a serviceable job at what it sets out to do.
Since returning this year I haven't kept up with the magazine weekly since Bleach ended, but was doing so since 2010 before then. I'd say this batch is one of the weakest. I don't see any of these being a great success or future pillars of the magazine and wouldn't mind if any of them got cancelled. I reckon Ayakashi Triangle has the best chance of sticking around due to It having less genre competition in the magazine.

Thankfully I'm genuinely excited for every manga in the next batch!

1. Magu-chan. For me Magu-chan isn't only the best manga of this batch. Is the best manga of this entire 2020. Hell, is the best Jump manga since Chainsawman. Expecting really big things from Magu-chan, and expecting it to join the Neo-Alliance of Yozakura, Undead Unluck and Mashle.
2. Ayakashi Triangle. It is doing fine so far, but surprisingly is generating less waves than I expected. I hope it sticks itself as the succesor of Yuuna.
3. Cop and Dolphin. It doensn't stick to me. It isn't bad, but I don't find it an amazing series. Is for me in a situation of "it exists"
4. Me and Roboco. I hope Isobee author coming back means this is going to be U19'd.

If things go well, we could be having 4 hits this year (Undead Unluck and Mashle are surviving for sure; Magu-chan and Ayakashi Triangle could survive too). It would be the year with most hits since 2012. But for the moment, all 4 hits aren't the usual "Jump 100k hit, is becoming a big thing", but "the 30k club is back to life".

Funniest thing is that if Moriking survives or we get another manga that becomes at least a 30k club, 2020 would be the year with most survivors since the legendary 2004.

I wouldn't say OP manga has little fanservice. The women drawn with exagerated breasts and revealing clothes is fanservice too.

There are countries where you couldn't show that to kids.

It may have something to do with the weirdness of this year, though. With many more new series than usual and many more slots to occupy than usual, in the end something is necessarily going to stick.

1. Hard-Boiled cop and Dolphin: I am not a blind fan and all your criticism are true, it just has a strange charm on me. I just hope there are less boobs chapters like the last one and more chapters focused on the misteries surrounding the island. While it's true that it hasn't found its identity yet, I think it has the biggest potentiality of the four that will pay off when it will finally find it. But I fear that by that time it will be already too late.
2. Magu-chan: God of Destruction: This should be a safer bet, it is funny and gives a warm feeling, and it also seems well received, so let's hope it will stick around more. Out of the three "kid with weird mascot" current series, it seems the one less focused on gags and more on the overall atmosphere, and this will hopefully pay off in the long term.
3. Me&Roboco: On the opposite, this series is just gag after gag after gag, and when they land they're really funny, when they don't it's really meh. My current hit/miss ratio is more on the miss side, but it's not an heavy lecture so it can keep trying until eventually another Madokaaaaa level chapter arrives.
4. Ayakashi Triangle: Bland story and great focus on ecchi: not my piece of cake. If I judge it objectivelly though, I see that the author is experienced and knows what his series has to do to stay around (Tamura should be experienced too, but...).

There is rarely emphasis on those things(like on an echi manga) there was an emphasis on boobs all the time (or at all) you would be right, bit there isn't(in the manga)

The anime on the other hand emphasises this and draws attention to the boobs and revealing clothes and could be called fanservice.

Yeah, pretty much this, really. Yabuki has a good idea of what he wants out of the story and what the readers expect, so I see him sticking around and staying in Yuuna’s spot of the magazine.

The problem I have with Ayakashi is that it has Saki Hasemi's to love ru face in the writing, even though Saki Hasemi is not the writer. I do know that if you draw for a long period of time, it will rub off on you. Yabuki also had some input when he was in charge of the drawing

Like for now it reads more like a to love ru than black cat

One thing I love about Black Cat is its sense of momentum. The story feels like it never lets up, and always keeps you on your toes. Even towards the end when things aren't quite having the same impact, that sense of momentum is still there.
Ayakashi has a world and some cool characters I'd like to see in motion, yet for some reason Yabuki just wants to keep them stuck in place.
Of course it's still very early in the series, but it's just not quite what I expect from a Yabuki exclusive penned series.
Hoping we can get a serious arc soon and see if Yabuki still has it.

Yabuki has been drawing nothing but fanservice harems since 2006, To Love Ru is much more his style than Black Cat.

Whether he was the main writer or not doesn't matter because it's clearly the kind of content he wants to draw.

What is the purpose of Oda drawing every single woman with massive back breaking breasts? There's no reason for it other than to sexualize the characters as fanservice for its targeted younger male audience. These are not depictions of well endowed historical figures, these are fictional women that a man created as puppets in his story. It's solely his choice to draw his women the way he does.
Yes, it's exaggerated further in the anime but it's asinine to argue that it isn't fanservice simply because it's worse somewhere else.

Just reread Cop and Dolphin and I’m starting to think that Tamura can’t write a coherent story that doesn’t involve delinquents in some capacity. Any time he tried to deviate from those themes, his writing goes all over the place.

Already seeing the signs in Cop and Dolphin that I saw in Hungry Marie and I’m starting to doubt whether Tamura has the capability to improve.

Beelzebub wasn't necessarily coherent as well. In fact I think early Beelzebub was rather difficult for me to read into before I began to care about the characters. Once I did, the series easily became one of my all time favorite Jump series. Maybe even my favorite.
Even still, Tamura literally did whatever the hell he wanted. Like the arc where they are sucked into Lord En's computer game and forced to fight in a team based shooter against him and his cronies for the hell of it.
I feel like people often forget how different Beelzebub actually was from arc to arc.
It has nothing to do with the characters bein delinquents, it's about Tamura having trouble introducing his casts. If Pig and Dolphin is able to last, the characters will become better development.

I don't think the lack of focus is quite as bad as Hungry Marie (since you can at least describe the basic idea of this one, while Hungry Marie was 5 totally different series clumsily stitched together) but it does again feel like he's starting to struggle to stick to a consistent theme.

We get a bunch of chapters setting up buddy cop gag-action antics and fish turning into people, then on ch 6 it abandons all of the themes to do what is effectively a filler chapter entirely about harassing a woman into showing her boobs? Did that really need to be in the first volume?
