You know, watching the ongoing Muhyo and Roji anime makes me wonder if it's actually secretly quite influential. A lot of these exorcist series follow its set up and kind of characters and structure in particular (as opposed to bigger exorcist stuff like Nube and Blue Exorcist which feel quite different). Or at least a bunch of editors are huge fans.
I had always thought Muhyo was one of those series like Psyren or Medaka Box that had a decent-enough fanbase to stick around for a few years but never reached the heights it needed to leave much of a long term impact, but perhaps it's a very critical series with a strong mark left on jump history after all.
I agree with some of what’s said about Burn The Witch.
This doesn’t feel like a mini series. This feels like it’s the start of you everyday Jump Shonen series. We’re now half way through it and I don’t understand how this is suppose to just be 4 chapters, and 1 film. This feels like something that would at least be like 3 volumes.
With Burn the Witch part of me honestly wonders if that "volume 1" listing is telling us something more. Clearly this is not a regular series, but with how the stories been going, I wouldn't be surprised if chapter four has a "Burn the Witch will return" message with like a volume a year or something.
MANGAHELPERS "TOC" POLL ISSUE #39 - NEW SYSTEM TRIAL
Ironically, James Ryes made a entire comment suggesting things when i was already thinking about some stuff in the last days, the suggestion kinda gave me the wish to try put the ideas in work, i talked with @Halloween about it and he liked the idea of trying it to see if goes well, so we will shake things this week and try a new system of voting, isn't anything complicated, here are the rules:
1. We will not call it "votes" anymore, but Jump Points aka "J-Points", alongside giving more style for the vote is also to change the impression that the number of "votes" a series get is equally the number of people who voted, is not, is about how much points the each users give.
2. You will get at total "30 J-Points", this not counting the traditional poll at the top of the voting thread, this one will still exactly the same, you vote for 5 chapters and each series means 1 point.
3. For the comment voting it's where things change, you will have "30 J-Points", but here's the deal, you will not simply make a top 5 ranking from 1st to 5th, you will, with the limit of 10 points for a series, distribute these 30 J-points at your wish into as much series you want, which means if you want to distribute 30 points between 5 series you can, or if you want to 10 you can too and etc, the limit is the number of points.
4. As quickly mentioned, the limit of points to a series is 10, you can't give more than that to a single series, this is made to assure that users will not do something like giving 25 points to X series and the other 5 points to the rest, so the most you can do is give 3 series 10 points, but it means you will only be able to vote for 3 series since your points will go to zero, so think wisely when distributing your points.
4. The final results will be the same like always, total of the poll and comment voters.
Remember, it's a fun thing we're doing to see how it goes, if users end up not enjoying much or if something goes off with the voting and results, will just go back to normal, so give it a try.
The voting thread will be open in minutes.

MANGAHELPERS "TOC" POLL ISSUE #39 - NEW VOTING SYSTEM (TRIAL / TENTATIVE)
This week's top 5:
0. Mitama Security - I usually only like to rank the series still running in the magazine in my official count, but I'll make an exception this time. This crossover was so hilarious! I'm really going to miss Mitama, and not only was it amazing that it lasted this long, but a bonus chapter is just the cherry on top.
1. Magu-chan: God of Destruction - Super hilarious chapter. Smug Magu-chan really carries the series. I hope this series really survives the long one.
2. Mission: Yozakura Family - Great chapter, and Mutsumi is a doll. Very interesting cliffhanger at the end of the chapter too.
3. Mashle - Awesome battle, and I'm really hoping that we shift gears to the wimpy guy and spiky-haired dude again now.
4. We Never Learn - Yuiga is pretty dependable in the Senpai arc. Nice to see WNL finding a stride again after routes 2 and 3 being a bit disappointing.
5. Undead Unluck - Some of the parts involving Unrepair were a bit confusing, but the worldbuilding was pretty interesting. The characters are fun to read about.
The best of the rest:
6. Moriking - Pretty funny chapter. The author sure gets a lot of use out of that one Moriking pose lol.
7. Me & Roboco - Decently funny. I'm pretty surprised that this is actually starting to grow on me.
8. Ayakashi Triangle - An alright chapter. No more, no less. I wish the focus would be on some ayakashi more.
9. Chainsaw Man - Despair.
10. Burn the Witch - The artwork and dragon designs are really cool, but the plot isn't really that gripping. I'm trying to figure out why I liked the oneshot a lot more than this.
11. Agravity Boys - Each chapter is like a novel. Not all that funny, probably from the lack of HDB.
12. Honomieru Shonen - While the art was solid, the plot didn't really interest me much. The dynamic between the main chracters reminds me a bit of Samon and Teshi, which is a little nice.
13. Hard-Boiled Cop and Dolphin - I'm just not really finding this series funny at all. The plot is really strange, and I think I'm preferring Hungry Marie over this.
14. Time Paradox Ghostwriter - This was probably the most rushed ending of a WSJ series I've personally read. This was a super rough ending.
This is for Shueisha as a whole but a significant part of it is WSJ
Their net income for this fiscal year(May 31,2019 to May 31, 2020) increased 112.0% from the previous year (9.8 billion yen to 20.94 billion yen)

For me it was Guardian of the Witch. Time Paradox Ghoswriter's second to last chapter at least shows that it builds up towards an ending, where Guardian of the Witch was suddenly concluded after the middle of the final chapter.
AGRAVITY BOYS Volume 2 didn't rank on Shoseki Monthly for July. Considering Rank 500 for that month is a total of 12.000 copies, and Volume 2 of the series managed to reach monthly with 12.150 copies, at this point it's not even stagnating in sales but actually slightly decreasing, seemingly.
MASHLE Volume 1 managed to appear in July Monthly on 441 with an estimated total of 13.298 copies.
I'm seeing a lot of comments about PS reminding people of JJK and this and that, but to me I still hold the opinion I had about the GFC oneshot, it reminds me of Muhyo and Roji, the first chapter was ok, let's see where do they go from here
quick thoughts Roboco chapter was funny even the references were funny, Magu with references jokes too? and to Tsurikichi Sanpei of all things!! that +100 points for me dawg Nirai kanai with a slower and more info-dumpy chapter, with the secret police yet another subplot is introduced and not explained properly, this manga is all over the place, Mashle wrapped up the fight nicely, I beginning to see a pattern with the bad guys tragic backstory TPGW was random nonsense Yozakura fights were awful, nakama/family oneshots everywhere, Mitsumi speech was so cheesy it gave me a heart attack
After Kimetsu's success. It is natural for manga to appear that tries to emulate this success.
It was like that with Naruto for example, after his end, boku no hero academia and Black clover appeared.
I don't see any problem with another exorcist manga as long as it's good.
funny you say that cause one could argue KnY was trying to emulate AoT and Tokyo Ghoul success
and HeroAca was already an established series selling 100k+ long before Naruto ended, and BC oneshot which is the same as its first chapter was release when Naruto was still running too
I was agreeing with you on your old stance, so don't let our resident Yozakura defense force bully you into liking in it
it's a shitty title that's surviving by being less shitty than insta axed shit

this by far the funnies comment in the 2020 thread

nothing, I:
1- just generally think it's badly written 2-don't think it would've survived if it wasn't so many cushions in the line up
and those 2 things are unrelated, even if i liked it and thought it was good, from sales and toc placement point I feel like it always survive by doing slightly better than the axed stuff

I won't argue the first point because quality is subjective, but as for your second point; It's not just doing slightly better than all the new stuff. It has been doing considerably better than everything new, sans Undead and Mash, has for an entire year. And I'd say if you look back at many prior series that enjoyed a modicum of success, you'd see the same thing.
You just don't like the series and that's fine, but your dislike of the series is worded so harshly like all you want to do is belittle the people who DO like it, and that's pretty shitty as a manga fan.
We had a few reprints issued for some of Jump+ biggest titles long ago, back when we knew about Tsugimanga reprints. All reprints were for Volume 1 of all those series, and we now know why they were issued.
Jump+ seems to be having some sort of promotion in some bookstores gifting character stands of the main characters of those series by buying its volumes.
don't have numbers on the top of my head but is it doing considerably better than Kamio Yui or S8?
those just died early because they didn't have cushions and empty line up

It did twice better than Kamio Yui sales wise (which sold around just 5-6k copies for Volume 1) I believe. S8 of course not, but multiple factors killed that one (awful reception, poor TOC placements, dropping sales volume to volume, a lot of money wasted on the initial promo etc.)

judge my posts by what's actually in them not by what you imagine my intentions are
It's first volume sold double what Yui Kamio did and Yui Kamio stagnated from volume 1. Samurai 8 had a much better first volume, but plummeted every volume after. Yozakura has only grown every volume.
And maybe you AREN'T trying to make people feel bad for liking the series, but you could definitely stand to learn to word yourself better. When you describe things as "shitty shit shit" instead of using coherent words where you explain what you don't like and why, it makes you look pretty bad.

well, I stand corrected
but I still think these level of sales are not immune to the axe
and for the record I think every single WSJ manga that doesn't rank on Oricon top 50 has the potential to be axed

I just didn't feel the need to re-explain why I think it's shitty when I did that in the same post earlier
every single week I share my thought on it and I give the reason why I didn't like it
Yozakura: an entire year of fillers then shoving an entire arc worth of developments in 1 chapter , I understand why the author avoided seriousness, this is generic as fuck, Tayio new power up look like a fucking sharingan
