Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

Is it a requirement to have less than 8 volumes to get into that award competition?
yeah since it's an award for "new works". I put it in quotation because Delicious in Dungeon was in it 4 years in a row even though it is pretty well known at this point, but up until 2019 it has less than 8 volumes.

The last two entries were Chainsaw man in 2019 and Neverland in 2018

Most nominees from that list receive a small boost in sales, with the winner receives a noticeable pump

Obviously there is a chance some of these might die but IF all the newbies that seem to be surviving from this year survive, would this be the most successful year in recent WSJ history?
Ayakashi, Magu-chan, UxU, Mashle, Cop and Dolphon etc.
Well yes. But not really
If these 5 series survive, we will have at least 6 successful series this year (counting Burn the Witch, which is a success even if it's only a minisseries), but this is hardly something impressive when we see the number of new series this year. So while it would have the greater number of success overrall, the serialization/success rate would be the same as always.
I think the most successful year in recent WSJ history is 2012, which had AssClass, Haikyuu!!, Saiki Kusuo no Psi Nan and Nisekoi, and the most successful year of all is 1998, with Shaman King, Whistle, Rookies, Hunter x Hunter and Kajika, basically 5 sucessful series with 10 serializations.
Adding to the time frame of recent history, 2004 had 5 hits in Death Note, Gintama, Ketekyo Hitman Reborn, D. Gray Man, and Muhyo to Roji. It probably has the highest success rate of any year in the past 20 years (With 5 out of 11 becoming hits). Speaking of recent history, the fact that the end of Haikyuu!! meaning that all 2012 series are over makes me feel old. I guess this is what boomers felt when Kochikame wasn't the oldest series in the magazine anymore.

I hope the newbies above end up becoming hits. It's obviously normal for less than half of serials in a year to be hits, but the prospect of out of 15 series (not counting Burn the Witch, let's set it aside for a bit), only 2 series actually staying makes me shudder.

I know that it doesn't really mean anything to the actual toc and etc, but as curiosity, looking at the last two results of that known japanese twitter poll for the #36/37 and #38, Yozakura (ch 46 and 47) is really high, higher than i ever remember the manga being in these polls since its most of times in the bottom, seems like the serious shift tone in the last chapters isn't only pleasing western readers, i'm curious to see how these chapters will be ranked in the actual toc:

So we went from 37 poll+top5 points to 35 poll+J-points (at some point in the future I gonna get you down to 30/20 points per person, just you wait, Shinuki :P). It is interesting that now we can give more series points instead of just 5 with the maximum being ten per series which means you only voted for three. Will be interesting to see how people might use the system to give either lower points to many series they enjoyed but couldn't really vote for before besides the poll because of the top5 limit but I have a feeling many will use the top5 way but with different distribution maybe to have some sort of guidance for themselves, like 10-10-5-3-2 for example. But then that is up to each Person themselves.
Will you/Halloween make a poll next week where we can vote how we feel about this system after voting is done like "I didn't liked it, I want the Top5 back" "I like this, let's keep going" "I like this but it could need some tweaking in the system" as options or something similar?
Yes, after posting the results we will ask if the users liked or not the trial system.

So, why is the order in that way? I thought initially it was for the year they joined but doesn't seem to be that way.

Oh yeah, don't mind that. Just the order the source put the teams in (so I followed). But within the teams, it is by seniority.

Agravity Boys. But I think it's far less consistent, completely unfocused and wastes the presmise, but despite all that I still enjoy reading it very much.
I do like Cop and Dolphin too, but that's more of a comedic action with the battles and a narrative already taking over.
Oh, Aggravity Boys. I didn't count it on par with the other three. In fact, for me it is the best among those four. Every week after reading One Piece, the next three must-read for me are Mashle, Undead >< Unluck, and Aggravity Boys. I do enjoy the other 3 gag manga, especially since the civilians tend to just accept any vague explanation regarding Moriking and Magu-chan (Poor Shoko...).

It'll be interesting to see which of Undead and Mashle's next volumes sell better. Mashle had the bigger start and earlier growth but this new award and talk show boost should put Undead in strong competition with it.

It's always cool to see series that are pretty much direct rivals.

Is it my impression or is Jujutsu hardly talked about lately?

Yet the last few chapters have been bombs, no less than those of Chainsaw Man

Does Cop and Dolphin have space in a magazine that has Mashle ?

For you who has the best 1st volume, Mashle or Cop and Dolphin ?

it's an attemp at banter, a joke
a proper response would have been "can't wait to see you seething in the second year anniversary kkkkkkkkkk" or something along these lines
that would've burned me to crisps

I'll admit it's my fault for making assumptions

I've explained over and over and over every single week why I think the manga isn't well written
the manga lack focus and direction, does any even know what's it genre suppose to be?
Taiyou is a Mary sue who's perfect in everything, loved by everyone, and have no weakness
the fights choreography sucks and is jumpy
there are way too many side characters and they just keep introducing more then forgetting about them the next week
the siblings don't get attention
the conflicts most of the time get resolved too conveniently

I've even pointed out several plot holes and asspulls
the grandparent missing the wedding/the master disguise brother going mia in the politics arc /Taiyo healing the bucket brother transformation with talk no jutsu/ the yandere maid going mia in this arc

I just used shitty to save time rather than type all of this out
I agree with ya but the marry sue part. Taiyo had to train alot to become even tho that was mostly skipped cuz of phasing reasons. what he wants a

I agree with u but the marry sue part. He worked really hard to get where he is now, ofc of phasing reason not too much is shown of it. Marry sue is more placed for emma or fully in power fantasy / isekai

What even is this question?
Whether corp and douphin is better than Mashle or not?

Because there is a heavy competition in the jump.

Why does it have to be better than mashle to have a spot on wsj?

I only talked about the mashle because it is also action and comedy, it is a direct competitor to corp and douphin.

but I can also talk about Yozakura, I think that corp and douphin needs to be better than about 7 manga to survive.

Cop and Dolphin, we really cant tell unless we see first volume sales numbers.
I personally think Mashle V1 is > than Cop and Dolphin (first three chapters were a huge miss for me) but really, if the sales are disappointing, I don't think WSJ would be hesitant to cancel Cop and Dolphin.

Even if it gets a CP, we cannot really take that into consideration as they might just be giving it a CP because its Tamura. Unless that CP says "Thanks for the popularity" or something.

We will see.
I want cop and dolphin to survive because it's one of my favorites right now with Tamura's comedy but I wouldn't hold my breath.

What I'm going to say is just an assumption, maybe it turns out to be wrong.
But I realized this year that when newbies are placed in the same month, it's kind of a sign that they may not have good sales.
for example:
The first volumes of Undead unluck, GoTW and Mashle each were placed in a different month and in the end, UxU and Mashle sold well.
And when it was Moriking, bone collection and Time paradox the three were placed in the same month and the three sold poorly, and two of them were canceled.
And now, Ayakashi triangle was put in October and the 3 (Magu chan, Shakunetsu and Roboko) were put together in November, similar to what happened with samurai 8, double taisei, beast children and Tokyo shinobi squad.
I think that at least one will sell well, I think that of the 4, Ayakashi triangle will have better sales than the others.
of the novices who are going to sell in November, I think Shakunetsu will sell better, but I don't know how good it will be.
