Mag Talk Weekly Shonen Jump [2021] - Discussion and ToC Talk

[RafGL]

Do we have any information on these authors as well as do what Jump Short Frontier is all about? Like the one-shots they have done. Minus Sakano Asahi and Yagi Tomohiro, since the two are veterans within the magazine. Just curious.

Jump Short Frontier consists of different mangaka publishing short 15-page one-shots in the magazine. Probably in order to look for some potential mangaka in a future round, given these one-shots can be selected in the weekly poll. There's nothing guaranteed for any of them anyway but seems like they're trying different stuff in order to maybe get some potential serializations.

Furuta Seiran published Gunjo no Batoro back in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #38 2019, but no other works from the mangaka are out there as far as I know.

Hamada Shiki has been publishing stuff for a while, but at the same time has been missing for 6 years. Won an Honorable Mention in Jump Treasure in 2012 with KINGS GAME, and The Last Killer and GAIA KEEPER are two works published back in Jump NEXT! 2014 and NEXT!! 2015 respectively.

As for Nakahata Rintarou, they published Ouki Shika in Jump GIGA Spring 2020, being the most recent published of all of these mangaka.

This is fascinating, thanks for answering.

Now am curious about Nakahata, is the one shot of his easy to find?

Also is the likelihood of Tomohiro or Asahi returning to the magazine something to be expected? Cause personally I think the former could potentially find an audience over on Jump Plus.

And suddenly Jujutsu Kaisen got a popularity poll too...by Viz and starting today.

PS: Today (already 26th in Japan) is the birthday of Akutami

That Oprah meme surely comes to mind

[pamuchi]

They never posted the results from their KnY popularity poll, that was almost a year ago or so

[Mankichi Togawa]

I'm really wondering if we'll get a Jujutsu Kaisen more official poll. Chainsawman is getting its 2nd popularity poll before Jujutsu, and right now Jujutsu is having Kimetsuesque numbers in Japan.

Guess JJK will get its 2nd anniversary cover on issue 15 or 16. The question for me will be if that issue comes with new popularity poll. Choso demands my votes.

No Miwa = Useless poll

So Tomohiro Yagi returns after fives years. Makes it seem so long ago after realizing his last work was serialized in the same round as The Promised Neverland and that’s been long gone. Eager to see what new idea he’s come up with and if he’s still gonna try for a battle shonen.

[Chuck_Atlas]

I'm sure Yagi did a one shot a couple of years ago, so wouldn't be to much of a gap since his last attempt

Late 2018.

And I didn't know he was (still is?) working as an assistant on Yozakura.

Yeah this one, I knew it was a detective one shot. Wouldn’t mind seeing him returning and finally making it, even if I wasn’t a fan of Red Sprite I think he deserves a break

Kaisen's first nomination, Kimetsu's second, TPN's third. Would be the first grand prize for a WSJ series if one of them wins.
