Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

Kagijin is an obvious bottom 5 runner. It's so bland...

Akaboshi deserves to be out of the bottom, it started boring and it was bland but now it is doing good imo.

I didn't expect psyren to be out of the bottom 5. I expected it in the bottom 5 last time for 2-3 chapters. But well, no sad feelings: makes me glad that weaker psyren chapters don't make the manga in the bottom 5

Wasn't Akaboshi already said to be out in 43 or something? Escaping the bottom now doesn't help it if that is true.

Now Kagijin is the one plummeting. Not surprised one bit. Wajimania seems to have returned to the bottom as well.

I'm not worried about Beelzebub or Sket but seeing them in the bottom is never fun. Medaka is going to keep me worried I see.

Akaboshi's possible cancellation is still a rumor, so Akaboshi might survive longer, depends on if Akaboshi stay out of bottom 5 again or not. And chapter 51 of Bakuman showed that ranking is matter more than tank sales, so Akaboshi's escape from bottom 5 can save it from cancelation.

I enjoyed first 2 chapter of Kagijin, but since chapter 3, it got bored. So, if Kagijin becomes a sacrifise for Medaka and Akaboshi, I'll be happy.

I don't like seeing Sket, Beelze, and Medaka below Wajimania. Even they are in bottom 5, I want to see them above Wajimania.

The problem is, if serialization meeting was already done during the period Akaboshi stayed in the bottom 5, we must consider every possibilities that Akaboshi was chosen for cancellation. If it was, there's no way to save it. Definitely not happy with Beelze and Sket on the bottom 5.

I think there was a series which the editors decide to cancel, but it increased its ranking after the meeting, so the editors decided to keep the series. I forgot the name of series.

Really, really glad for Akaboshi. It ope it keeps going up. Kagijin was destined to fail from the very start, so it's no surprise seeing it in last place. And don't forget this is Wajima's first ranked week, so chances are it'll only go down from there.

Now, I know the thing about Akaboshi ending on issue 43 is most likely a rumor, but if it isn't, I'll be so freaking pissed. The editors have access to the poll results almost immediately, for crying out loud. It just doesn't make any sense that they insist on axing a series that has escaped the bottom eight weeks ago and keeps improving since then. It might even become top 10 material if given a little time, they just have to let it last a bit longer.

Does anyone know if there was a case of a series tanking, then going up for a few weeks and being cancelled nonetheless, in the past?

Kagijin shall go before akaboshi coz I agreed with most people saying that akaboshi 's getting better recently.

Beelzebub is in bottom 5 would be owning to yoyo effect:blink

I think Bleach fanbase in Japan must consist of 8 year old boys cause there has been chapter so boring and with no plot progrssion but bleach is always at the top.

Wajimania is technically unranked and can't be canceled until November. Beelzebub sells well enough that a week in the bottom five won't matter. Sket Dance has an anime in production and took a huge leap forward in sales this month. The series immediately above those three could be in big trouble.

If Medaka Box is canceled before Akaboshi I'll be pissed. Does the world really need more Jump action? A funny school life series with great characters and a little fanservice is what this magazine needs. The magazine has so much more variety, it would be a shame to load up on the same genre and ruin it.

Well its a miracle! Akaboshi has escaped the bottom 5 for the first time since its been ranked lol Not looking good for Medaka but who knows, maybe cuts won't come around till November and Kagijin and Wajima can go instead of Medaka and Akaboshi.

Last few weeks, Akaboshi was actually better than Medaka. Akaboshi showed the progress of the plot, but Medaka didn't develop much. So, it's not surprising that Akaboshi surpasses Medaka. But, I'll still be pissed if Medaka get axed, I like both of the equally. I have hope that Medaka going to rise because I think Kikaijima is most popular character in Medaka, so Medaka might possibly increase in future.

I think Wajimania might cancel at same amount as Poseidon, which lasted 18 weeks. So, Wajimania might be cancel on November.

One thing is for sure: unless the Akaboshi rumor is true, there won't be any cuts this month - or anytime soon, for that matter. There's enough space for everyone in the magazine right now. And judging by how bad their debut was, I'd say Kagijin and Waji are guaranteed to be out next round unless one of the two newcomers turns out to be a Meister-level disaster. Thus, there's no reason for us Medaka fans to worry... for now.

I hope your right. I don't want to see Medaka and Akaboshi get axed, I prefer Kagijin and Wajimania.

Nice to see Akaboshi out of the bottom, but Sket being lower is probably the contrast against it...but a novelization at least shows it is just going through more yo-yoing like it usually does. (the yo-yoing should be more stabalized if the anime comes...whether or not it succeeds)

Bottom five:
Wajima
Beelzebub
Sket Dance
Medaka
Kagijin
Medaka really is in trouble, TLR never did this bad early on. Now there's a parallel between Bakuman recent chapter and what's going on with Medaka with the whole turning it into a battle series to safe itself from cancellation. Will it work like it did for Hitman to gain popularity who knows...

I don't see the battle appeal in Medaka Box, that'd be a pretty sorry move if it's actually happening, which I don't think is.

Sket Dance did this poorly in it's early days, so did Yusha. Belmonde, canceled after 19 chapters, was consistently above them for three months (Belmonde and Sket debuted in back to back issues) only consistently polling lower in it's last six issues. Even then Yusha would occasionally be lower. Sket and Yusha were in almost every bottom five for their first three months.

I think all hope would be lost if Medaka were to become a battle manga. Great news for Akaboshi by the way, seeing as it's been getting better and all.
