some of them has color paged and are unranked. Kagijin, Ane-doki, Wajimania are unranked. Kochikame got cover, Sket and Inumaru got color. Those are not determined by reader poll and it's positioned are determined by the editor themselves.

Beelzebub just barely out of bottom 5, and Bleach dropped down to middle, again.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.2

Bleach isn't too much in the middle because like 5 unranked series are above it. Toriko is about normal, and Reborn has bounced back well after being low for a while.
But yeah, this issue has a ton of unranked series. And it won't be until this round gets ranked that we will be able to tell where they'll end up. From what I've seen, their position barely says anything at this point, but Kagijin is above Anedoki even though it started later, so maybe it's doing better.
Inumaru at least gets a color pic for its anniversary. Maybe someday it could get the cover... Maybe... Still hasn't had one...
Medaka and Akaboshi not doing well really. Beelzebub will probably go up and down a bit, but it doesn't seem like it'll be in danger after lasting this long doing pretty well. But it does still need to survive in the long term and still work with longer arcs.

Well, this means nothing! Akaboshi were above Medaka before their first ranking =D

The buzz for Ane doki and Kagijin on manga forums are quite good. But i've heard the reception on Japan are lukewarm at best

The ranking in TOC is for 8 chapter before. So the ranking is for the chapter with the introduction of MK5. That chapter is kinda boring, so I'm not surprised.

To weird a TOC to judge. Not much to say about it. At least Toriko is back in the top 5!

Kagijin has been an unexciting, nothing new, shonen action series. At least Ane Doki has cute Kawashita art and fanservice. Personality too.

We should wait and see until Ane Doki's and Kagijin's official ranking, and we'll see whether Kagijin will stay above Ane Doki, or not.

Well for me, Ane Doki has been extremely unexciting. Its not all that original either. And I've never been a big fan of manga that focus a lot on fanservice.

I believe that you're wrong~! :P First of all, Kagijin has a "personality". The author passes so many political and simultaneously social messages and therefore they increase its importance and value. Here is one example of the countless that exist; "No matter how much I run... the past will always come chasing after me. Getting something by running away is just a downright lie!" Those hidden messages make this manga more than just a manga series. And I might agree with you that it is too difficult to locate them (although it is not! :P). However, that is an advantage. You have to think about when reading. It is not just the daily life of a boy. It is a stoic series. :D On the contrast, Ane Doki, has no meaning in it at all. It is just fan service. I get better fan service by reading Change 123, so why would I read it? You say it has cute art. Kagijin don't have? And moreover it has its moment of fan service. ;)
Finally, I agree that it isn't a light series that you would expect from Weekly Shounen Jump. It is more of a dark series and serious at the same time.

So you judge! :S

Doesn't every action series have quotes like these?

I haven't read Kagijin, so I can't judge, but I know I've said the exact same thing about other series before granted, D.Gray-Man does have a big fanbase outside of WSJ, so that might indicate some truth to it. I guess we'll see when tank sales come along. If Kagijin's really like that, maybe it'll appeal to older readers outside the Jump fanbase, too.

Then again, maybe not. There's the series you do have to think about, or at least can think about, and then there are the series that seem that way but really aren't all that deep. And a big fan of the series won't necessarily be able to see which one their series is.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.2

Kagijin's not bad but it's not that good either. D.Gray-man is still darker than Kagijin and the character are much more memorable. Tsubame is also a very cliched character that looks like he come out of a "holy bible for battle manga main character". Freedom loving, mysterious, etc.
From my POV, the series doesn't over anything new. Hell, even outside jump there's still better series, Hagaren, Soul Eater. In short, Kagijin doesn't have an edge compare to other battle manga in Jump.
I think for a battle manga to become popular in Jump right now, it's either a series from a previously successful author or the series has to be creative and distinctive. Example: Toriko, Mago, and Beelze.

Not missing a whole lot.

None of them have been especially able to catch my interest for more than a chapter or two but I'd probably take Kagijin over the others if I had to choose.

We should talk about Kagijin in Kagijin thread, not here. I'm thinking that we are in little off topic, right now.

Nope, we're in the same boat. I can't get myself to reading them either.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.2

Fairly silly question here - does Akamaru Jump count as a regular issue of WSJ to retailers? Like, would overseas stores that ship WSJ every week get it too, or is it considered something special and different and not just the edition for that week despite the fact that th content is different? (I know it'd probably depend on the store, but in general...)
