Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

DGM isn't in the list becoz its still on hiatus or its not in bottom 5. So we will know whats going on by this week. (DGM rules the week!!)
I meant that there's no mention of it returning to the magazine.

Hopefully they'll have an announcement in Akamaru, I suspect DGM will return after the next cuts, anywhere from issue 42 - 45.
Hopefully! Maybe after the Golden Future Cup oneshots end? The one in 40 is the last one, right?

I don't think Jump would only add one new series, would they?

Minimum number of tank pages... is there one? I've seen a ton of really short tanks. Maybe around 160?

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

I have a strong hunch that DGM will return right after the golden future cup series. Monday spoilers usually don't cover much ....plus, if u check WSJ website, recently they added DGM back to their list of series and more special updates will be made for One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, DGM, reborn hitman n Gintama. So, I guess DGM will stay in WSJ.

I did try to read Kagiijn but Im just not into it. Dropped...

That line in the Koneta was "Maybe Kagijin is questionable?"

HXH will probably end up coming back around late September or Somewhere in October, making it a year or almost that since the last 10 chapters. But that one guy said "there'll be an announcement soon" so that's where I got that range, the announcemnt's usually a month in advance.

I like Kagijin, hopefully it's not cut. While not overly original it has a lot of personality.

September sounds reasonable for both DGM and HxH. If Hoshino and Togashi are ready to go get them in before the end of the business year. Wouldn't it be interesting if two series get cut to make room for old series instead of new ones?

I've never been a fan of Togashi's 10 chapter flings. Especially if a new series ends up dying as a result of them. It is one thing when the standard 2 series come in, its another when its 2 plus HxH "lol gone in 10 chapters" where a potential Psyren or Sket Dance type series may just be near that border line. Although I do think HxH is a great series despite me not liking Togashi all that much. (Should have learned my lesson with YYH)

I cut Hoshino more slack what with the actual illnesses being involved. Still looking forward to the announcements regarding the future of her series.

Series with baby or little kids are invincible, like Yu Yu Hakushou, Reborn, Inumaru, and Beelzebub.

Can anyone translate the words on the color page of DGM, anything mentioned about its series!!!

Thank goes to Riki for finding the pic

For translation, there isn't any special news. It is just written about you can read chapter 1~3 from Jump website, new novel is coming about, and some info. about 2010 calender.

If Hunter x Hunter and D.Gray-man return this fall, maybe they realize that most of fall series didn't do very well after Naruto. So, in my opinion, the editors think rather tha serializing new series, returning hiatus series are going to be more successful.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

If Shueisha chooses not to debut a new series in September, in favor of returning Hunter x Hunter and DGM, it won't be due to the poor performance of past fall debuts, it will be because established mangaka trump debuts and returning hits take priority over debuts. Most likely HxH and DGM won't return at the same time anyway. DGM will probably return in September, along with one or two new series. Hunter x Hunter probably won't be back until October, assuming Togashi only plans on another ten chapter run. October would allow for ten chapters running into December with the last chapter in 2010 issue 2. It is possible that one new series debuts with DGM, while another comes along with HxH.

The odds of a manga becoming a hit are pretty bad, even without factoring in incidental information like season. If there has been fewer new series from the fall becoming hits then from other seasons it is a statistical anomaly and eventually self correcting. To base a business plan on something like that would be similar to flipping a coin ten times, stopping, then declaring that you know exactly what side it will land on if flipped ten more times based solely on the first ten flips.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

To Lover-Ru stucked in bottom 5, since issue 52 of 2008.

Since then:

To Love-Ru vs. Bari Haken/Asklepios To Love-Ru Wins
To Love-Ru vs. Meister/Bokke-San To Love-Ru Wins
To Love-Ru vs. Hoopmen To Love-Ru Wins
To Love-Ru vs. Medaka/Akaboshi/Wajimania Ongoing

In conclusion, TO LOVE-RU IS BACKSIDE KING OF SHONEN JUMP!!!!!!! (Frontside King is One Piece)

I think To Love-Ru is starting to break the record for longest series that stayed in bottom 5.

I hope it will end soon because, pesonally, To Love-Ru is going nowhere. I'm starting to think this series is popular because of fanservice.

I'm just hoping Medaka, Ane Dokii, and Kagijin won't be axed, but I think one of these series probably will receive execution.

well, if u have read Bakuman, it has explained the situation of To Love. So, its poll doesn't really matter.

Does anyone knows when the editors decide which series going to be cancelled? Also, is there any chance that Wajimania will get axed in 8 weeks like Chagecha, I called it, "The Legend of Chagecha"?

The things they say in Bakuman is if it doesn't do well in rankings they discuss it in the serialization meetings. But who knows what makes them decide to cancel something like that in 8 weeks. Must've done terribly in the polls for that to happen, and get kicked out when it's still unrakned. You'd think they would give SOME leway to an old author, especially one like the guy who did Bobobo which had an anime and all and went for like 250 chapters and had a spinoff series...

Waji won't get axed after 8 weeks, there won't be enough chapters to fill a tankobon. New gag last about 20 weeks. Besides, the editors clearly have a soft spot for the genre. Poseidon was top five almost every week but was still canceled after just one volume.

I agree with Wajimania won't get axed in 8 weeks. But, I think Wajimania will get axed no long after 8 weeks, by adding one shots, which he drew, in tankoban. I believe Wajima drew two one shots before Wajimania, so there is possible chance that they might include. Meister and Asklepios did included one shots because they don't have enough rooms.

Oh god Bobobo was the most stupid Shonen Jump series ever, I never quite understood its purpose and I never read it when it ran in the english version of SJ

If HxH and DGM are going to return, maybe Jump axes 3 series, who knows?!

And, isn't Waji Mania a 9-page serie?

I don't understand why the editors couldn't see how bad an idea it was to serialize Poseidon and Wajimania? I mean how could you not see they were (or in Waji's case is) doomed for failure?

Why so quick to assume Waji is doomed. The editors have shown that they will pimp gag and comedy in the past. Chances are it will not be part of the next cuts.

Well, I agree that we are assuming too quickly on Wajimania. But based on review from Japanese readers, there are only negative points about Wajimania and hardly no any good points. It'll probably safe for next cut, but I think it is matter of time that Wajimania will be bombed.
