Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

Kagijin is actually giving me the vibe to continue, the same Akaboshi did at it's end. But then again, the same is going for Medaka Box.

I'm not to sure about the sales of either Kagijin or Medaka Box, but Medaka's been doing a lot better in the ToC's, so it's almost a 100% sure that Kagijin will be cancelled.

Medaka can live on for another 20/30 chapters for all I care, it's still entertaining. Although it went from a nice school-life manga to an OVER 9000!!!!! manga. Which, was pretty much a wrong move if you ask me.

But hell, Bleach and Reborn! also became battle manga's after awhile, so why not, huh.
Same here. Let's hope it pulls a Mago.

I hope not :(

I don't think it'll pull a Mago, it's been in the bottom 5 ever since it's 2nd chapter or so. There's no chance it'll have the same luck Mago or Sket Dance had.

It's not like I care anyway, I haven't attached myself to the series.. at all, if I had to be honest. I only had that with Akaboshi, which ended and with Medaka which turned out a half-baked series.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

Series I'm currently reading:

1. One Piece (epic and classic of course)
2. Gintama (brilliant in it's own way)
3. Naruto/Bleach (mostly to watch a train wreck)
4....KochiKame (OK, I only translated two volumes but at least it's started...but on hiatus now thanks to other TL priorities)

That's about it. I literally have time made for nothing else, recent, older or otherwise...I've dropped Reborn and really don't want to start the Future arc and really haven't had time or interest to start anything else. (do want to get to either Mago, Toriko or Sket but who knows if that will ever happen)

And for the most part the only other Jump series I've been reading aside what I've listed are whatever I personally translate like Kinnikuman or Otokojuku...but no one wants to hear about those.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

And why do you want it to end? If you want it to end, just stop reading it. It's the same thing. The point isn't for it to end. Is it running some burden to you?
To me, the point is for it to end. I don't like series that are 'to be continued' in an eternal fashion. An ending gives closure, and removes the burden of hoping for it's comeback.

And ending is not the same as stop reading, If I stop reading it why would I care if it ends or not? Besides I really like HxH, I'd never stop reading something I actually like, specially with all the bad stuff going around these days.

What you said would make sense in any case that the author hasn't taken so many absences, and the publication is ongoing normally.

damn I can't wait for Oda to draw Naruto in his style.

BTW do assistants to the mangaka help with the storyline or just the drawing? Or maybe both.
according to bakuman:D, the mangaka develop his own storyline and assistants help with toning and stuff. if you ask me, i think assistants make also suggestions. who knows, maybe they are more than simple artists..

Of course, the assistans are there for additional work, but I'm sure that occasionally the "Wouldn't that be better" or "What if you did this/that instead of that/this" lines get dropped.

If I was a mangaka, I'd be glad to hear suggestions from my assistants, if their helpful or not is a whole other story. :p

as shown in Bakuman (this other mangaka with the bandana) the assistants seem to give ideas, but only if the mangaka is o.k. with it.
also their influence won't be anywhere near the influence the editors and fanpolls (and the mangakas partners) have, especially for new manga.

Dropping Reborn was a wise decision. Mago is an excellenet series, not really ground breaking but a fresh take on the old monster and super power genre. Toriko is still "pre - Arlong Park" plot wise but has a nice throw back feel.

I read some of your Kochikame translations, really like it. I kind of see how it last so many years; it's a funny series. I didn't put it on my as I've only read a couple of chapters so far.

To others: Kagijin is DOA. It's been last since it started. Only speak of it in past tense.

Mago's sort of was doubtful with me due to some early rank jitters but I do like weird supernatural stuff that has fun with it. Someone said it's a bit like "Hell Teacher Nube" maybe with a bit of early Bleach...so I may think about starting it. Toriko...yeah, heard a lot of good on that too.

As for KochiKame: I like what I've seen of the early '76-77 chapters but somehow I sort of fear for the series when we get into a certain point in the 80s where it sort of gets way too fanciful though we finally get to a few crucial supporters arriving (mostly Maria and Volvo...the good news is once we meet Reiko and Honda, we have our cast set until we get to them) Let's say that the comparison to "The Simpsons" is well stated: both started really great in a style but became way too over the top in wackiness...though at least KochiKame does have some grounding still from what I've looked over.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

I'm looking forward to December. Hopefully Akira Akatsuki does a better job with Medaka's cover this time around.

I have high expectations for Toriko and Mago when they release as well.

Anything that lasts 30 years is bound to have some uneven chapters ^^ I'm just impressed he was able to keep it going so long in one magazine. The main character even got a statue!

I would only compare Mago to pre - Soul Society Bleach; more plot and character oriented, fights are short and don't dominate arcs.

This is entirely too premature, but I'm really looking forward to Asou's new series. Just think about this for a moment...Asou is returning to WSJ on the heels of a mildly successful run with YuushaGaku, and the first impression he gives us of his new series is a boy brushing his teeth.

That kind of absurdity is oddly appealing to me.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

Hei please include my list too :D

Currently reading upto date:
One Piece and Akaboshi(i don't care how ppl bash it, i like Akaboshi since ch.1)
Thats it folks

Oh but i still reading Bleach every 10 chapters or so(it is irritating to see boring panel for 18-19 pages and then you need to wait another week to see the same panels again). And Gintama every 3 chapters or so.

I will probably will read Naruto if Kishimoto decided to kill off Sasuke (which is impossible)

I am more to magazine fangirl, kinda sad that only a bunch of series get their Edited Mangas updated weekly.
