Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

I can't determined it is good sign. Medaka and Akaboshi were placed high, but they dropped when they got ranked, also Hokenshitsu and Rilienthal were quite high, but both are not doing very good (especially Rilienthal).
Its sign that it at least its not being horribly received. Its not a great idicator as to how well it will rank but, its a good enough sign to assume it probably won't get canceled on the next round of cancelations.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

Medaka and Akaboshi were getting around Top 5 to 6 with some of their earlier chapters far as I recall, but plummeted almost as soon as real rankings started coming in.

While it certainly can be an indicator as you said (if something is plummeting before the 8 chapter mark, that probably means it'll bomb), it's generally too unreliable to give us an accurate impression until after we've seen the real rankings.

I put very little stock into how high the editors place a series. Unless the snap polls are truly hideous they tend to place them in the top ten. In truth I doubt either new series will be canceled quickly. Both stand out, they strike me as something that would appeal to a broad cross section of Jump readers. Hokenshitsu and Rillienthal both seem more likely to meet early ends.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

For some reason Jump has a pattern of putting Toriko 1st then putting it in the bottom five. It happened once or twice before.

Otherwise, a ton of series are unranked, and Beelzebub and Bakuman are yo-yoing.

Otherwise everything's about in its normal place, some of the low series moving 1-2 places.
I still don't know what to think of Kuroko since it goes all over the place... but it's done well enough to probably average about where Psyren is.

On an unrelated note, here's a big picture of the One Piece volume cover we've already seen and a cut-off picture of the Toriko and HunterXHunter volume covers that we haven't.

Here's a close up full pic of the HXH cover, by some guy on the RitualScanForge forums.

So it looks like Kawaguchi is doing a boxing/fighting manga? Could be good. Been awhile since one was in Jump i think.

And the new volume covers look great. All of them really but especially Mago's. I always love its covers.

I'mma have to say that issue #53 is quite a nice feat...great cover, great color pages, love most of the new volume covers in the preview, double fix of One Piece, awesome news (Mago's animation; Kawaguchi Yukinori's one shot in Akamaru) - I'm pleased MAX!

Is there some Jump schedule? I want to know if there are any breaks in the upcoming weeks, or just breaks for One Piece.

That's because that's just the front-cover, but the cover as a whole is more then just one page.

Well at least one thing: come Sunday (when we get spoilers for issue 1, 2010), we'll be in a new thread. Should be nice to start a new year of Jump, particularly with the good things coming up...and the dumb decisions. (do we REALLY need the Bleach spines for 2010, why not wait until 2011 and let Usuta have fun for the 10th anniversary of Jaguar? Yeah it's not one of the big three but it is still one of the longest running series in the magazine currently)

No 'lol', not every time every year every christmas time - usually there is 1 double issue at christmas time, the last time of double issues of 2 times in a row were 3 years ago, and I remember 'nicely' that the issues came week after week, and then it was 3 weeks of waiting for a new stuff : (

Personally, I'm inclined to think Usuta will get a raw deal...as a Jaguar fan(boy) I really, really wish that amazing series will get the limelight it deserves in its 10th year. I keep my fingers crossed that it'll be Usuta playtime in 2010...but maybe I should not get my hopes up too high :worrybunny

For now I'll just wait and see [and expect the Bleach spines and other inanities...]

I have a question. When Jump website presents upcoming volumes' covers, they happen to also present series like Steel Ball Run, Yu-Gi-Oh GX, Bastard, etc. Also, they happen to have Shonen Jump logo on it, rather their magazine's logo. Is it because some series are formerly serialized on Shonen Jump and some others are sequel to series that serialized on Shonen Jump, or is there another reason?

My guess is it has to do with them being tied with Jump in some forms or another. Though both are essentially seinen now, both Steel Ball Run and Bastard (and even Ninku Second Stage and Beshari Gurashi) all sort of started as Jump series that moved over to another magazine. Yet even so, since they started as Jump, Shueisha probably keeps people abreast of all of them so fans from Jump can follow them through to the end. But it's not like all spin-offs and sequels get the same treatment if they didn't start here. (thus why we never hear about stuff like Kinnikuman Nisei, the Izuna spin-off of Nube or the two Otokojuku series: though they were Jump, they started those in other magazines...therefore no need to connect with those reading Jump)

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

As I got my copy and looked through Jump today, there was an announcement that Bleach will be taking over the spine in 2010 (this year, however you want to take it) and the Naruto 10th anniversary book was somewhat announced but meh, I'll say it again. It looks like it will be in volume form- WITH the mangaka's drawings of the blond hero. Out 12/4. Which is... this following week. *Goes off to place an order*

And uh, that's it, besides all the OP movie merchandise ads.

Hey, Jaguar couldn't get the spine during it's tenth. :/ I like Bleach's art cause I don't know, looks cool but oh well, it's all about what the customers wants. And Bleach is one of the big 3- big 4, w.e. And I'm looking forward to Bleach's 10th anniversary book next year as well.

Shueisha has these lines (I'm excluding shojo/josei):

Jump Comics: including V - Jump, Weekly Jump, Jump SQ, Super Jump (as Jump Comics Deluxe). As a V - Jump serial Yu - Gi - Oh is a part of Jump Comics. For whatever reason when Steel ball Run left Weekly Jump it remained under the Jump Comics line. It also retained furigana, the only series in Ultra Jump that has them.

Young Jump Comics: Young Jump, Ultra Jump, Business Jump. Unlike Steel Ball Run when Beshari Gurashi switched to Young Jump it also switched lines while volume 4 and on have been written in kanji only, as is typical of seinen.

Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk is now closed. Discussion continues here:Weekly Shonen Jump [2010] - Discussion and TOC Talk. 2009 covers, along with past covers, can be viewed here: Weekly Shonen Jump Cover and Color Page Archive Thanks!
