It's not really a news... But Young Jump had a spin-off magazine called "Miracle Jump" that's been going on for two volumes now. It's a bit over-priced (450 yen for something that's maybe 1/3 size of SQ = ="), but some of the 1-shot's are pretty decent.
Though, like typical seinen stuff, too many characters gets killed in the first 2 chapters (for at least 3 of the running "series") :P

Same here except it's still too early for me to decide if it'll be my favourite sport manga based on the colour page alone. Ice hockey is virtually non-existent in Japan so hopefully this manga will help bring awareness to the sport. I'll definitely be on the look out for this one!

I am really excited for the return of Liar Game as said here. Oh and I have a question since I read it last year and I have never been following it with it's releases when they were going on regularly before the hiatus. The series is bi-weekly right?

Great to see Kingdom FINALLY getting an anime. It's sold pretty well for a long time and already has 23 volumes.
By the way Kokou no Hito ended about 2 weeks ago. The last volume comes out... I think next month, December.

Ok, it was this month then.
I've been reading it in the magazine issues, the ending was awesome. It probably won't get an anime or anything, but it's definitely been my favorite seinen manga. I've got to get around to translating the rest soon.

But, after all, Kokou no Hito will end with 17 or 18 volumes?

Btw, It's a fantastic manga. I really LOVED read it. Thank you very much for translating it, Kewl. Do you plan to translate with the Magazine chapters or do you prefer to wait for the volume raws to do it?

PS: How many chapters Kokou no Hito ended with?

I have all the magazine chapters so I can scan all the color pages and stuff. I've been reading them as they come out. But seeing as the last volume is out now I'll be translating from that. It's really the same thing, just without as many insert texts. Plus the art and stuff are more polished.

Okamoto Lynn launches new manga series

2012's third issue of Shueisha's Young Jump magazine is announcing on Thursday that manga creator Lynn Okamoto (Elfen Lied, Nononono) is launching a new series titled Kiwaguro no Brynhildr in the ninth issue on January 26. The tagline for the manga reads, "'I killed my girlfriend…!' A dark fantasy of pure love!!"

I kinda like for some reason works of Okamoto Lynn, but I have to admit that he isn't actually a... talented storyteller. Elfen Lied was nice read but sometimes it was just too cute and sweet for me. Yes, it were creating some nice contrast between cruelty and purity of main character, but there are some lines. Nononono had really interesting premise (ski jumping is one of only two sports I'm actually watching) but the story had some serious issues. The characters were getting more and more wierd and their pasts more and more ridiculous. Still I'm looking forward to his new work.

I expected that Murata's new work would be medieval-fantasy and action manga, but it turned out to be just gag manga.

Also, it said One and Murata will appear again, so I wonder this means this work will be irregularly releasing series like Saiki Kusuo (from Shonen Jump).

I am not surprised, Young Jump generally does not serialize fantasy/supernatural manga. A few exceptions aside, action manga in Young Jump are usually sci-fi, like Gantz, Elfen Lied, and Zetman. Or they are "realistic" historical action such as Kingdom and Sidooh. There is a very sharp divide between what is serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump and Weekly Young Jump, with the two magazines having little in common stylistically. Typically fantasy/supernatural is reserved for Ultra Jump, which is why the JoJo's franchise moved there rather than the more popular Young Jump. Jumbor too, as Ultra Jump is more likely to serialize Weekly Shounen Jump style action manga. Jumbor would not have fit Young Jump's style. Nor would Murata's one shot, had it been an action manga. A gag manga disguised as medieval fantasy/action is more fitting with Weekly Young Jump.

I am hoping that "murata will appear again" means that he will be serialized soon. And hopefully that serialization takes place in Young Jump not Weekly Jump. Better yet, let's hope he takes his talents to Kodansha or Shogakukan and is serialized in a really good magazine like Afternoon or Big Comic Spirits. I'd even prefer seeing him in Young Jumps superior competitor, Young Magazine.
