Discussion What Manga Do You Read?

Nah, as I said I didn't give the manga much of a chance. I may have read two volumes. I downloaded and read them about five months ago, so I don't remember specifically. I just wasn't interested in it; I may pick it up, because it could turn out like Gantz. I didn't give that much of a chance to pick up in pace, but people recommended me doing so, and now I love it.

Yeah, Blade of the Immortal is the type of manga that demands your full attention. Especially when you start getting to vol 6 onwards, there are more plot twists and turns than an Irish roundabout (and I can say that, having attempted to navigate roundabouts in Ireland - man...it's insane!).

Also, with the pacing, it's not constructed like your typical shonen series, that's for sure. There's a lot more time devoted to showing us how they lived and the obstacles they were up against, on a day-to-day basis. Finding food, getting bothered by lice, not having washing facilities, not having any money, bandits luking on the road, dodgy people wanting to rip them off at any opportunity (I also think it shows how tough it would have been to be a woman back then) ...that type of daily survival thing and how all that make their lives hard enough on its own. Iif you've no interest in that it could become tedious. But for me, that's half the attraction.

Although... while the first volume may have been slow, the second volume grabbed me from the set go. Usually I would say that if you aren't interested by end of the second volume, it's just probably not your kind of thing.

Still, definitely still think it's one of the best manga out there and I crave new chapters every day T_T

Have read 666Satan up to chapter 26, as far as the Edited Mangas go ( like d.gray-man ) en i've read a lot of single chapters...
The first chapters of: Bobobobobobolotsofbo's ( boring, seems like japanese humor does not equal european/american humor at times... ), Tenjou Tenge ( wtf? seems like a lame excuse to draw soft-****** to me 0.0 ) and Blade of the Immortal ( better, a hero that actually gets cut up xD ), of which only BotI seemed interesting
Chapters 303-305 of Prince of Tennis... well... it's not my thing, but i cannot stop laughing when reading it, because cannot keep from wondering how the other 300 chapters would be interesting xD ( just my opinion, it looks kinda boring to me, but i know a lot of people like it, so there must be more to it... )
Two loose chapters of Eyeshield21 ... For a sports manga, it looks better then PoT, but still nothing that would get my interest, not my genre...

Also up to date with Full Metal Alchemist now, *wonders what he should read next*...

What was your favourite from that list, JanneK?

I just have to step in and ask of you what you believe is Eyeshield's genre?

Sports? Well.. in a way
Imo Eyeshield is all about comedy, and a bunch of kickass characters that have to beat their opponents and grow stronger. Typical shounen fare; the fact that it has a sports theme is just superficial. It could be about anything really and it doesn't rely on the sports-theme as much as other sport-manga; and it sure as hell doesnt drag out entire games for volumes in a row.

Anyone heard of I'll (Generation Basketball)?

I've only read the first chapter, but it's pretty interesting so far, nice characterisation...tense moments, fights, some hinted romance, all in the first chapter. Not bad.

I'm a bit disappointed with 666Satan. Although the dialogue is snappy, it seems like it's aimed at children, as opposed to teens and older. Am I just not giving this a proper go?

Well, i'd say you are right, but isn't Naruto itself like that too?

Yeah...I guess I should clarify myself. I see Naruto as being a bit like Harry Potter in that it's aimed at 12+ and that it easily crosses over (in that 12 is really not the square target - it's more like mid teens to early adult).

666Satan felt to me, as though it were aimed at the under 12's. A bit like Shaman King (well, that's my opinion of Shaman King). But hey, I could be wrong. It just had that feel about it.

Currently reading Flame of Recca and I'm totally into it. Really fun, classic shounen manga; which is no big surprise since I also really like MÄR by the same author.
Fuuko is frickin' hot.

Yeah, if anything I think 666 Satan is definitely a shounen with a bit more mature content.

Today I've read the first 3 volumes of Kurozakuro. I must say: WOW .

It's a really cool story. The main character, Sakurai Mikito, is a weakling boy who is always harassed. One day he swallows an "ogre seed". In his dreams he meets a strange kid asking for his wishes. Mikito says that he wants to get stronger. The next day in school he is bullied again but then he manages to beat them all to a pulp.
It turns out that he is slowly turning into a human-eating ogre, loosing his humaty in progress of course. There is a group called "hunters" which is now behind him.

I must say this is a wonderful manga. Action scenes, good story, all what you want. I got hooked up.
The series is scanlated by hanashi (http://hanashi.org) and I got it with irc (#[email protected]).
