I thought this was an interesting discussion that was central to the current Eiji-wants-to-end-Crow arc. Even the editors themselves are arguing about it in chapter 136, though of course this discussion is something that is quite general and not specific to that chapter.

It's the most ideal situation for both author and manga when the author is allowed to end his manga when he wants to, especially when you think of the manga as belonging to the mangaka, since he's the one who draws it
Who would you agree with? The authors are being paid by the magazine to draw, so even if he is the one who draws it, who owns it and who should have a say in when it ends?The minute a mangaka gets himself published in a commercial magazine, the manga is no longer just his alone
