Discussion Who will get Ace's Mera Mera no Mi (Fire) Devil Fruit?

I'm in the camp of hoping Ace's fruit ends up retrieved by Burgess, or falls in the hands of an antagonist of some sort. Like a member before me mentioned, having the Mera Mera in the hands of Blackbeard would greatly increase tension between his crew and the Strawhats; add that along with him proving responsible for the ordeal at Marineford (and a foreshadowed showdown with Shanks, whom he should triumph over) and you've got an incredible set-up for a climatic bout between the two sometime down the road, near the end of the series. It creates intrigue (among other strong emotions), bumps the respective power of Blackbeard's crew, and gives fans of the series a more tangible goal to look forward to.

Should Blackbeard not get the fruit however, I'm sure the fight will still happen and be pretty epic, 'cause Blackbeard has never stopped scheming and drawing up machinations to conquer the seas (and eventually the world). If not Ace's fruit, he'll be sure to piss Luffy off in another way soon (I believe Dressrosa would prove an optimal place for Oda to start, though).

In the past,for me Burgess would be n1 nominee for the fruit,because of what Jimbe said about BB's pirates and their action in these 2 years!(plus what Depravity said)...But now,Sabo is in the game!he seems very confident,he have to be VERY strong if we think that he was stronger than Luffy when they were kids and that revolutionaries trained him(maybe Dragon personally) and most important,he feels the need to honor Ace and protect his pride,after his absence in the big war....I dont think that a failure will help his image as a strong guy,while he was vanished all this time!

For some reason,i confused Sabo with Coby o.O....This is what happening with 3 weeks without OP... So my vote goes to Sabo :P

Indeed, and I'm surprised only a few comprise our lot. I thought more people would desire a Burgess-stealing-the-fruit-type result, for the narrative's sake; instead, fans seem to want an Ace v.2 -- someone whose relationship to Luffy is identical to Ace in both relation and power. It's not like anything terribly innovative can come from the Mera Mera at this point (though I don't doubt Oda's creativity), so not only would battles henceforth with Sabo as its user seem trite, but also would add nothing to their dynamic insofar as exaggerating the "I'm your brother" trope that's already been expounded heavily at Marineford. I believe Blackbeard getting his hands on it would change the entire nature of the upcoming bout with him and Luffy, and make BB's future fights as a Yonko insane with a 500 million+ beri-fruit added to his crew.

This scenario is guaranteed to benefit the story, from perspectives any other result wouldn't even touch upon.

I agree completely. I guess people want to see Luffy succeed as well, given his goal is to get mera mera no mi. Especially since he has underwent training to get stronger and protect his nakama... but he can still do that and possibly get mera mera no mi back if Blackbeard won't let anyone eat it. I personally would rather see Blackbeard get the fruit, likely not have it consumed as a lure for Luffy, and lose the fruit to Luffy, who then passes it on to the next generation years later, like the straw hat was passed onto Shanks and from Shanks, to Luffy.

its not what we want,its what Oda is thought when he put Sabo in this turnament...For many reasons(read my post) Sabo have to win!But plotwise,its better for Burgess to take the fruit!

I don't think Sabo or Luffy want the fuit for themselves. They just want to be sure it ll not fall into bad hands (Burgess or DF's crew) for Ace's memory. We don't even know if Sabo has already a fruits ability or not. I m not reluctant to the idea they ll eventually give the fruit to her, impressed by her spirit. People don t like her but it s just the Vivi's syndrom. Actually her speed plus this fruit should be a great combo and i really hope she will participate to the final fight against DF with Luffy x Sabo.

I agree that he doesn't want it for himslef,but from what Oda showed us,he will get it for sure...(but not eat it)

Honestly, I know I already voted for Rebecca, but that was before Sabo appeared.
If Sabo is really here to get the Mera Mera Fruit, you can be sure that he will get it.

I doubt that Oda will introduce such a character, only to have him fail on his task.
He will defintely get the DF.

Now, that doesn't mean that he will eat it.
I think that he will either take it to the Resistance (something as powerful could help them), or he will give it to Luffy.

If Luffy get the fruit, then, who knows what he could do with it.
I think he will offer it to someone he trusts right away, and the most likely candidate is still Rebecca.

Plotwise and like M3J said to further add to Luffy and Blackbeard's "feud", it would be a good call for Burgess to get the fruit. That could lead Luffy to co to 2 possible paths; Immediately chase after Burgess and take a detour from their current alliance plans with Law (that would mean we'd see the crews eventual match-ups earlier than expected) or just add more fuel to the fire, for their eventual showdown.

On the other hand, I don't see Sabo losing the fruit to any other contestant, but Luffy could want to give the fruit to Rebecca after the madness in the country is all sorted. Though I find it difficult to see Sabo agreeing with this.

I honestly don't see anyone in the crew having it, besides the now popular "Luffy gains an extra DF" theory.

I'm gonna go with Sabo taking it back with him and keeping it to honour Ace. Maybe eating it himself.

Oda has shown so many events in this arc. I wont be dissapointed if any of the theories made yet become true. Except for luffy getting the fruit. Now that sabo is alive, it wouldnt be fair if sabo doesent get aces will but luffy does. Sabo knew ace longer than ace.

Best thing according to me is to give is to a bird so it becomes a phoenix. (careful whom u give it to, u want it to be ur nakama luffy )

I know it won't happen but somehow I love the thought of Wicca with the DF.

I'm trying to imagine this little one covered in flames and her strength charging in covered in flames.
Dwarves have proven to be fast and Wicca has some insane strength to boot.

You know what that would remind me of?

Like a little Meteor or a Comet.
