The fact Togashi wrote tie in material for the first movie shows he still cares. It's just a shame for whatever reason he's not doing the series weekly. Could be stamina, the man is 50. It's just sad that the anime won't have anything to work with soon.

Akimoto Osamu is even older and he has never skipped an issue. Never since 1976. Jojo's Araki is also older than Togashi is and he keeps drawing monthly (even though he takes some breaks from time to time.)
I think his problem is that illness he has and which noone seems to know about. Or maybe he just wants to take it easy and enjoy life since he is rich and tired of drawing. He'll be back as soon as he feels like coming back. We fans can't do little to nothing there.

I don't think he is ill anymore. It's just that he wants to have more free time to think about the story and stuff.

He is lazy sometimes, that's a fact, it's clear when you see some drawings, yet he is able to write a story of that quality.
I wondered before if he was continuing because of the readers but to be able to write a story like that you need to like your job, that what I think. He could hire an artist to draw for him but he doesn't do that, some rumors say he doesn't even have assistants. I guess he is a perfectionist, but despite that he neglects art sometimes, he even likes to change his style, this is odd...

It's clear that he likes drawing mangas but sometimes it gives the impression he doesn't care. Maybe he plans to redraw all HXH volumes at the end of the story.

Naruto ending will have nothing to do with Hunter x Hunter coming back. Who knows when it's going to end.

I agree that there is probably a lot of procrastination involved, and as you already said, since storytelling is very intimate you cannot even blame togashi for that.

It would be awesome if he would be as talkative as SIU with his afterwards and blog, but i guess he is too old for that fancy internetz stuff

It'd be a pity if the anime just ran out, but let's don't think about that yet.
There are always possible OVA's, too.
I also don't think that this is about togashi returning soon or not.
When togashi returns, we get between 20-30 chapters. That leaves room for one arc or maybe 2 smaller arcs or about that size, and then it's at least half a year no HxH again.
BY that time, the anime would hit the end, anyway.

Back then, gon and killuah flying to an uncertain future with the card from greed island was a good ending point for the first anime.
This time, i think gon and killuah's parting and gon trying to get to the dark continent with gin will be a good ending, either.

I would be okay with it, but Im a newer reader/watcher so my opinion doesn't hold as much weight as some of you who have been following Hunter X Hunter for years, although there are some more things that should definitely be dealt with, but If he ended it there I think It would be a pretty good ending. I enjoyed the way Yu Yu Hakusho ended and I think it would be okay for me.

Togashi continuing the story instead of ending it doesn't mean he cares, it could also mean he's keeping the story open so he can go back to working on it if he ever needed more money. He has no excuse for such a long hiatus, and knowing that his hiatus is indefinite makes me not want to read the manga just to stop at an interesting place and then losing interest after a while. Given the hiatus, it's hard to believe he cares at all.

Gon finding Ging was just a milestone. This isn't a deeply personal story of him finding his father for familial reasons - finding Ging represented nothing more than proof of Gon's abilities. No hugging, no tears. Ending it at Ging would be just as bad imo as ending it in the middle of a story arc.

I hope togashi did something in the last 2 years... I am greatefull that he redraw all the chapters which came out unfinished in Shonen Jump but now the latest Manga Volume is out and so there is nothing to redraw anymore. And i'm pretty sure he finished every Dragon Quest Game ever created at least twice. Soooooo... ?

It's almost been two years already, huh? It feels like forever.

Well, at this rate, the anime will probably end by Fall/next Winter, and I would still be very surprised if the manga starts up again before 2015.

Personally, I would be alright with Togashi ending it when Gon met his father. I mean, that's the goal of Gon's story. Killua finally found something he wanted to do, which was his goal and reason for traveling with Gon. The only things I would've liked to see resolved after that is Kurapika/Phantom Troupe, Pariston, and Gyro. Which are... a lot of loopholes when you think about how the other characters are also intertwined with those plot lines.

With the way YYH ended so suddenly, which I know were due to other circumstances, I wouldn't put it past Togashi to come back and be like "alright guys, it's done. I've completed this." and leave so many things untold. HxH is on hiatus now, which means Togashi could come back and start serialization when he wants to given there's space in JUMP, but I think he's really just taking his sweet time with it. But it's his story and what's done with it thus far has been pretty amazing.... so I guess we just sit here and wait.
