Re: the WoW thread

Pffsch, it's not like my sister, her boyfriend, my other sister and her boyfriend is playing wow and that they got me addicted in the first place :hurr

But seriously, I think I will play it but casually, I miss the "casual" wow play, when you log on, do some quests, maybe poke someone on your friends list, then log out again.
When I hit 80 (or 85 for CAT) I'll prolly start lvl a new char because you can casually lvl, but not casually play end-game..

Re: the WoW thread

I play on Jubeithos (Oceanic).

Unfortunately for me PvP doesn't really get me... I'm into raiding, and as you guys know- it's fucking work. rofl.

btw the definition of "casual" now means at least 4pc t9 with the rest of your gear being above ilvl 213...it's insane.

Re: the WoW thread

Haha, yeah, you work 8hours / day, come home, then you gather herbs and whatnot for potions, then you raid and then you go to bed. In total, you work 13 hours a day.

The definition of casual will be restored in Cata, I'm sure of that *hopeless optimist*

Re: the WoW thread

Haha yeah... Back in BC I'd spend hours gathering mats for stacks of Superior Wizard Oil, Flask of Pure Death, Flame Caps, and Blackened Basilisk before a raid, then I'd blow them all after a week of raiding... hmhmhm... My lock had Tailoring/Enchanting, so you could imagine how much Netherweave Belts I had to DE to farm all that gold. Hahaha!

Re: the WoW thread

Uuurgh, one part of me is *I feel ya, had a tail/alch mage* but the other part of me screams *omg get a life* -.-
I really should get a life though :-P

But who knows, maybe Cataclysm makes WoW not-so-much-of-a-drag.

Re: the WoW thread

money is easy now btw. 500g/day is achievable through dailies + random heroics only... as a result the economy in every realm has blown up at least three times over.

everyone's hoping for cataclysm to be awesome in a sense that it'll blow everyone away, but i'm still a bit skeptical, after all activision is in play now.

Re: the WoW thread

Awesome inflation in other words then...

They should've made it harder to collect gold tbh... I rather see a low conjuncture as a new player, than the super-inflation...

Re: the WoW thread

It's not awesome, it's insane. theres an item right now called Battered Hilt that leads you through a quest chain with a nice epic weapon; sucker costs 8k in my realm (7.5k low, 8.5k high). Oh and enchnters and the like now charge at least 10g (the decent ones don't charge a cent, but the assholes ask for 10).

Re: the WoW thread

Rofl, don't get your hopes up guys. Blizzard has been steadily ruining the old game feel since they introduced Burning Crusade. What a piece of shit that was in my opinion. Wrath of the Lich King was rather decent in my opinion, story was interesting as Arthas was the only truly cool villain in the series, and the only one I cared, well except Illidan, he was pretty darn awesome too. Unfortunately they made him a cake walk (I've heard). I just find it awful how such an epic story got killed off. I'm a complete Warcraft Story/Lore freak so just the thought of a couple of noobs killing someone like Arthas and Illidan rages me, seriously.

Things used to be epic. I remember we killed some of the harder Naxx bosses in pre-BC. Was so incredibly awesome, and we were among the the only guilds on the server that could actually raid Naxx without wiping like crazy on the first boss(es). Now people are PUGing freaking Arthas. I laugh at that, sorry.

I don't have much hope for CAT really. Money will still be easy to find as Blizzard has started taking care of the noobs way too much. They added too much dailies, epics in casual dungeons, easy PvP rewards etc. Now every noob runs around with epics and a load of cash. While before you had a clear difference between noobs and pros. Pros has lotsa epics, noobs had very few (if any). The only thing that CAT will most likely bring with it is the epic feel of pre-expansions. Other than that the bosses will get PUGed, cash will be easily earned, and everything will be so "main stream".

Best part of the game now is leveling new characters. Nothing is like grinding Scarlet Monastery and get the awesome stuff there, and then go to Stranglethorn and pwn several noobs at the same time, 4 vs 1 etc. Awesome. PvP was SO much better before with the old rank system, where being a Grand Marshal actually mattered and made your jaw drop at his equipment, and raiding the most hardcore dungeon actually made you get a royalty status.

/rant.

Re: the WoW thread

Never played vanilla (couldn't afford it then), but I'd have to disagree about BC being crappier than LK. Yes, BC lacked the big scale 40 man instances, and the sudden increase in stats was a big move for vanilla players, but at least it incorporated important aspects of the game such as group mechanics and CC. LK dungeons now only require for the tank to hold enough AoE threat for the DPS to AoE them down.

Back in BC gear mattered a whole lot too. Sure, it didn't come with the pvp requirements and the title, but it was a big thing none the less. Even if people didn't bother looking at your gear, the numbers can always speak for themselves. Also, gear didn't equate to skill; if someone with pro gear specc'd wrong and did the wrong rotation, you could be sure that he wouldn't really do well.

The way I see it is that vanilla players dislike BC because they worked hard to get to where they are, only for them to be slapped in the face by blizzard due to the immense number of changes they made to furthen the game. In retrospect, BC players also dislike LK for the exact same reasons (although, we'd have to agree that both vanilla and BC players dislike the fact that CC and group mechanics no longer have the same importance that they used to have).

Lastly, I don't like the idea of having to PvP to be able to wear your gear. You should be able to keep what you've worked hard to attain... whole reason to why I don't like games like DoTA, HoN, LoL, etc...

Re: the WoW thread

Grats... I guess LOL.

I got sucked back into WoW... :scry

Cata>LK. I'm so glad that CC and movement are big things again. The shitty part is the large surplus of LK babies who don't know how to CC (the worst of which would be LK tank babies)... dumbasses think that everything can be zerged. :scry

Well, it's not like the leveling part was ever interesting. It's all about the max level content, given that you can join a decent guild (and find a better one once you become too good for them)

I was used to be warrior tank in Wotlk and consider it to be the most difficult class to play (80 Twinks for comparison were Mage, Holypala, dd DK). It's the only class which uses absolutely every skill it can use, there's not a single useless one for prot warrior. Be it cleave, recklessness, retaliatation or whatever, even these skills can be useful sometimes though it's not even possible to use latter two in def stance.
EVERYTHING can be zerged, given that the Zergs are skillful enough :D Tactics can be kinda overrated when the players are good enough, it'll work some way.

Sadly my guild was too bad for that (as well as any guild on my realm), nobody wanted a prot warrior crossrealm and I didn't want to play a different class. Gone inactive, shortly checked back with Cata (10d trial version), was instantly annoyed by new Orgrimmar, new talent system/trees and some more stuff and quitted again. Won't ever try again °_°

Re: the WoW thread

I tanked as a frost DK, did DPS as a destro lock (from BC-LK. doing Cata as afflic), and healed as a resto shaman (elem in BC).

Tanking classes in LK: Once specc'd appropriately, decked out in decent tanking gear (4k GS, geared properly- meaning no items solely to pump GS), and played properly can stand toe to toe with other classes in PvP. My warrior friend had no troubles staying alive and kicking ass in both PvP and PvE, and the asshole would always get Revenge crits that could drop a clothie to 1/4 life.

Zerging: It's bad. It's only advisable if the margin between the suggested gear level of the instance and the gear level of everyone in your party is huge. In other words, only do it if you "out-gear" the instance. And even if you do, there are certain mechanics that come in to play in an encounter that prevent anyone from zerging. It's pretty easy to spot people who "grew up" in Vanilla or pre 2.4 BC and differentiate them from the LK babies. The veterans will always prefer CC over zerging due to the fact that you control the situation to your liking, allowing for optimal survivability. You can always tell if a tank is any good if he/she knows how to mark for both the DPS order and CC.

Guilds: The new guild system actually works so that you stick to your guild since you have to build rep from scratch once you leave.

Prot warriors: Decent in normals and heroics, great in raids. Warriors are still valued for their constant threat gen and great survivability. I personally prefer bear tanks just because they provide insane amounts of DPS (thus making heroic runs shorter) and threat (due to the DPS), but I find warriors to be on par with them when it comes to threat and survivability. I've had so much horror stories with blood dks and prot pallies...

I for one hope that Blizz continues to make things "harder". Theres no point in playing a game, where the only deciding factor between life and death is whether or not you can withstand multitudes of mobs hitting you or not.

Re: the WoW thread

I'm quite disappointed about frost not being able to tank either. The burst threat helps a ton with impatient DPS, and it's got great snap aggro as well. The only problem is that it's specific niche was AoE tanking, and it was really only good for heroics and raid trash...

Re: the WoW thread

I would normally MT Naxx (and other badge farms), and It was alright. All I had to do was use my opening rotation (DnD>HB>BB>HS [w/RS if it procs]>rinse and repeat), and that was it. The boss would be mine for the entire fight (unless a tank swap would be required). Though I'd have to admit that blood always provided more survivability. Our healers would always tell me that out blood tank was easier to heal (same gear) just because he had "last stand" and all I had was a bit more armor and parry.
