WG have done this throughout the story:
At Alabasta
At Enies Lobby, the didn't take credit for its destruction, they said Luffy did it because they'd look stupid for destroying their own base.
At God Valley... despite countless Pirates there to witness, it was all accredited to Garp and not Roger.

At Dressrosa, it only failed because Fujitora (WG member) broadcasted the truth on TV which isn't really possible here.

Whenever the WG have been involved in an incident directly, they always controlled what the world knew of that incident.

WG is in Wano, easily can control the narrative.

Also, Wano isn't necessarily where Luffy's cemented at Yonko level to the world, there are still 3 Emperors for Luffy to defeat.

You're also not considering the fact wherever the WG have it in their best interest to take credit, they will... that's exactly what happened at Alabasta or God Valley. The more involved or greater the presence of the WG in a situation, the more likely it is they take credit.

Taking credit for taking down an Emperor is important.

If anything, it's better for the world to not truly be aware of Luffy's duties given there's still a lot more of the story to go. 3 Emperors left potentially, the Admirals, Elbaph... there's a lot of the story to left for a need to rush Luffy to superstar status when it's the lack of status, recognition, conflict and drama that drive the story and narrative.

It's possible, but if we put the incidents where the WG have changed the narrative, they almost have a 99% record albeit when they themselves (the WG - Fujitora - on live broadcast) tells the truth which is not really possible here. Unless Drake has access, it still won't be believed because he's a Pirate to the world.
Maybe if Fujitora was at Wano.
There is a big issue to consider here: Luffy will probably walk out of wano being one of the word's top powers regardless of how the world government spins this. Walking out of wano at least one yonko crew will be decimated, wano will open up to the world as an ally to the strawhats... Maybe even under the strawhat banner. We also can't rule out that luffy will have his pick at the remainders of kaido's crew. Let alone that with a yonko gone the strawhat armada also becomes comparatively stronger in the new world. Overall, the world government will have limited capacity to spin this because the impact will be so huge and it's effects so immediate that any big enough lie about the events will be immediately outed.

What proof do you have the WG cannot spin it?

So, he's defeated Kaido? and?

Roger defeated Rocks, the greatest pirate in the series arguably since Roger and Whitebeard. No one knew what happened. So? What if he walks out of Wano?

Who has access to the press, newspapers? Luffy, Roger? No, the WG.

WG have been in power for 800 years... there's a VOID CENTURY... 100 YEARS OF LOST HISTORY... how? It's because the WG have access and a hold on what news gets out.

Overall, the world government will have limited capacity to spin this because the impact will be so huge and it's effects so immediate that any big enough lie about the events will be immediately outed.
Walking out of Wano means nothing.

This has nothing to do with feats.

Strength is not what determines what the world knows.

The MEDIA determines that.

What media power do the SHs have to change the narrative?

This story is pretty much about the WG... covering up 100 years of history and a whole list of other things... why is Wano the exception?

We need to understand just because WE as readers know... doesn't mean the One Piece populace will be aware. They're not watching what's going on, the WG can say CP0 defeated Kaido.

All it takes is Kaido being defeated, a picture of his body being imprisoned and the news being sent to millions of people.

If I had control of ALL MEDIA, I essentially rule the world. That's why Facebook, Google, Twitter and such platforms are the scariest and most powerful tools around today. You control information, you control what the world believes. Yes, 2 or 3 people might know the truth behind an event, but Twitter and Facebook simply have to label these people conspiracy theorists, and it's over.
The WG is essentially Twitter + Facebook + Google + TikTok + Instagram all in 1... whatever message they put out is the truth.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

Again, NOT saying the SHs will definitely not get credit.

Just the odds.

I could play 10 lotteries and win, but the chances? I'd rather just get a job and work than bet my life on the chances of that happening.

Even with the SHs being absurdly favoured by luck...
  1. The world don't know what happened at Enies Lobby.
  2. They don't know what happened at Alabasta... only Joker, a Pirate in the know knew what happened because he's got CP0 and WG connections.
  3. What happened at Thriller Bark? No one knows.
Luffy walking out of Wano means nothing unless the WG expose themselves (e.g. Fujitora at Dressrosa).
Who is the Fujitora in Wano? There's no one with access to the media that can broadcast the live news to undermine newspaper information. WG also have access to the newspapers, what guarantee is there that Luffy's victory is really credited to him when CP0 is in Wano right now?

I get what you're saying.

Logically, within the framework of the established order in OP, this is definitely plausible.
Though Morgans isn't necessarily the WG's lapdog, he can be "persuaded" through some other scoops. Plus, WG has other means of controlling information as well.

But narratively? This shouldn't happen.
Why? Because Wano is supposed to drastically increase Luffy's notoriety, and elevate him to at least Yonko level in status. The news of the alliance, headed by Luffy, taking down two Yonkos, MUST reach the public's ears. Narratively speaking. THIS is what Wano has been building up towards, 10+ years of buildup.
Why this could happen, within the framework of the story? Because of Morgan's established rebellious nature as well. He has complied with the WG in the past, but not always! The world may not trust the words of pirates, but a lot of them will trust the press!

Currently?

A rebellious bird boi, who occationally complies with the WG, has access to the press.

Morgans told the Cipher Pol to pound sand in one occasion lol.

He can be bought off with scoops occationally. But controlled? Nah, the bird boi listens to nobody but himself !

Morgan is not that rebellious.

Only reason he attacked the last guy was because he was fodder.

Look what happened when faced with Stussy? Had they sent someone strong enough, Morgan would have complied.

He's not entirely honest.

In fact, his credibility has been questioned even by the RA. Morgan is not exactly a saint that always publishes the truth.

Nor is he even in Wano to begin with. The WG are.

Why? Because Wano is supposed to drastically increase Luffy's notoriety, and elevate him to at least Yonko level in status.
Not really. That's your expectation. That's what WE as readers feel is deserved. What we feel and what will happen are 2 different things. It might and it might not, doesn't mean it has to happen. In fact, it not happening as we want would actually be better for the story because it will cause readers everywhere to talk about One Piece more.

Doesn't mean that's what's going to happen, it could, but again, not necessarily.

There's still 2-3 Emperors potentially left. There's still a lot of Emperors left for Luffy to defeat to finally acquire that status. Doesn't mean he will get it here. At the very least, the Pirates will know, but Pirates knowing a thing or 2 isn't the same as the public knowing anything. The WG is not trying to dictate what pirates know, they couldn't give a care what they thought... it's the publics opinion that matters.

We might know he's Yonko status, world will not necessarily know that yet.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

News reported Joker being abdicated from his throne and losing his Shichibukai status. Didn't take long for CP0 to intervene and have that overturned. They were going to print a new newspaper to report it as just a mistake and they'd have gone on about their day. Luckily, Fujitora was there to circumvent that and disobey orders... something rarely ever done, probably never happened in their history as far as we know.

Morgan is not as powerful, nor is he at Wano. Morgan is nothing in the scheme of things.

It would require a lot of luck for the SHs to actually get credit for this especially with not just the Navy being there, we're talking CP0 being there to handle things.

RA were at the Reverie, and lord knows what happened. They can't confirm if the news is true? What does that tell us? Ability to control the Media is pretty much a power that belongs to the WG.

The only time news has been reported that favours the SHs has ever been public news... was Dressrosa and that's not because of Morgan, it's because Fujitora spilt the beans to the world on live broadcast which rendered newspapers ineffective to change the narrative.
A Navy Admiral had to broadcast the news.

We don't have that situation here, so if we're going to claim the SHs will get credit for whatever reason, question is what is currently there? Yeah, Fujitora might appear to do it again, but he's not here.

Question is what is currently in Wano that has the reputation, access to broadcasting the news and the respect of an Admiral to tell the truth for Newspaper propaganda to be circumvented?

This is like saying you can go to the moon, but you have no spaceship or rocket ship to get there, You don't have those resources. Is it possible to go to the moon? Yes, but what are the chances of boldly claiming to be going to the moon by the end of the day without those resources? Realistically, 0. The same is here in Wano... there's not any resource there that makes the news being credited to the SH a guarantee or a likely thing.
It could happen, but how? Can't squeeze water out of a rock.

That's a weird question.... My point would be more along the lines that it'd be pointless to spin it rather than them having an inability to do so. At best their capacity to spin it would be pretty limited. This isn't like during the ennies lobby arc where everything happened within a contained government facility and involved a rookie crew with no influence. This is a conflict that involves multiple yonko, wano and the strawhats... Pretty much everyone involved is a super power at this point.

The core issue is the sheer scope of the conflict in wano. 2 big things are happening pretty soon which will be pretty difficult to spin:

1.- Kaido's defeat
2.- Wano opening it's borders (this one depends on how exactly this plays out though)

Kaido's defeat would be something that brings down pretty much the entirety of kaido's empire. Kaido's base of operations is at wano of course but his actual territory includes at least multiple islands across the new world. Kaido's defeat is not a contained event, it's something that would immediately reverberate across the new world. To that you can also add the possibility of big mom's defeat which would also send her territory into chaos. Maybe less than kaido's defeat since her crew is far more united than kaido's was, having a bond of blood and an actual kingdom to rule.

So... how do things play out if the world government tries to cover up kaido's defeat? By some miracle they reveal that CP0 managed to assassinate everyone there and... Then wano starts communications with the world under luffy's flag? That would immediately call into question any spin on kaido's fate.

And you also have to consider that literally thousands of people already know that luffy and co are duking it out against big mom and kaido at wano. Within the marines you already have a lot of people in the know. Heck it wouldn't be weird if it was common knowledge across the marines in general that the strawhats and co made it there. We know BB knows so it's not a stretch that his fairly large crew that spans across multiple islands know. Shanks probably knows luffy made it there because he is shanks. So if kaido falls an luffy makes it out of wano... it's pretty likely these parties will immediately know the world government is lying here.

It's not impossible of course but for the world government to actually cover this up the planets have to align in their faovr so that things that run contrary to their narrative don't pile up. And even then there would probably be rumors... From the renmants of kaido's crew, from wano's activity, from the yonko who still call bs, from the strawhats making it out of wano...

This is a conflict that involves multiple yonko, wano and the strawhats... Pretty much everyone involved is a super power at this point.
That is actually irrelevant.
SHs.
Supernova.
Whoever.
Are not the media, they're not proof of anything.

Dressrosa is no different from Wano:
  1. King Elizabello... A KING.
  2. King Riku
  3. Revolutionary Army
  4. SHs
  5. Law's Crew
  6. Bartolomeo's crew
  7. Happou Navy
  8. Lots of people/Pirates to simply put it.
It still took the intervention of Fujitora on:
LIVE TV
As an Admiral

To stop the news from being changed as Akainu said would otherwise have been the case...

  1. So, why you think because there are some Supernova there will change anythihng is a tad absurd when GOD VALLEY HAD:
    Roger's whole crew
  2. Kaido
  3. BIG MOM
  4. Rocks
  5. Shiki
  6. Wang Xhi
  7. Captain John
  8. Any Pirate with a name...
All present, and 40 years later... no one knows about the existence of God Valley?
They don't know Roger was involved.
They know fuck all pretty much.
Even the Navy officer who knew the most thought Garp was responsible... she had no idea Roger was the one who took out Rocks or was involved.

So, why you or anyone think some pirates being there means anything is a tad absurd for those reasons.

The WG is there, they're present, they've always controlled the narrative. How are they not going to do that now when the circumstances are no different?

Sorry, but that's irrelevant.

1. Rocks' defeat.

And? Didn't this happen 40 years ago? They changed the narrative, Garp the Hero for the last 40 years, end of story. People don't even know who Rocks was now. Only 40 years ago.

Wano opening it's borders? You're saying this like it means anything. It means nothing.
Alabasta.
Water 7.
Dressrosa

All open countries, what did that change? Nothing, narrative still changed. Dressrosa is the exception because Fujitora was pretty much there to broadcast the news and tell it as it is before the WG could spin any news.

Wano's borders opening just means 1 thing... people can access it, people can leave, that's it. People being able to go in and go out doesn't change anything regarding the WG spinning news.
--- Double Post Merged, ---

So... how do things play out if the world government tries to cover up kaido's defeat? By some miracle they reveal that CP0 managed to assassinate everyone there and... Then wano starts communications with the world under luffy's flag?
Assassinate? That's irrelevant.

Lol... it's as simple as this:
  1. I go out with a group of friends, there's a girl in the group, maybe we just hugged to greet each other and that was it.

All it takes is for someone to call up my GF and say "hey, your BF is cheating on you right now, he just hugged some chick and they're at a restaurant".
That same person sends this message to 100 other people before 1 hour has gone.

The narrative is already "HPsyche cheated. he is scum".

Whether or not my few friends there try to change the narrative makes no difference, a 100 people already think I cheated, and before an hour goes, 1000 people think I cheated.

News is easy to manipulate if you're the first to tell the news and if you can get it out there fast.

Whether it's true or not is irrelevant, people will believe the first thing they here.

The WG have access to the media, what do you think some country pumpkins from Wano are going to do just because the borders are open? Weeks may pass before they have any infrastructure to do anything.

WG have been controlling the media in One Piece for 800 years, this is their forte. You think it's by some miracle? When they can call news publishers and change news within hours?
--- Double Post Merged, ---

And you also have to consider that literally thousands of people already know that luffy and co are duking it out against big mom and kaido at wano.
No, 1000s of people know Luffy is heading to Wano.

They don't really think he has a chance against an Emperor, he's just another Pirate... no one in the world believes the Emperors or WG can be defeated except by the WG and Emperors themselves.

As far as the world is concerned, Luffy's gone to his grave.

They don't even know they're fighting, they just know they're heading there.

Just because they're there doesn't mean they beat Kaido. People are far more likely to believe the WG if they said they were the ones to do it.

What you're saying here is like saying:
Oh, Kid is in Wano, the world knows that.
Mean while.... he's being imprisoned in Wano the entire time, that's probably what the world expects would be the case.

Not that they're actually a challenge to the Emperors.

When Kaido learnt Luffy took out Joker, what did he say? They're just playing Pirate games, he never respected them. No one respects them as actually being capable.

Hina and Momousagi heard Luffy is going to Wano... what's the reaction?

They're worried about Kaido and Big Mom joining hands... they're pretty much assuming Luffy's going to die there and then Kaido and Big Mom will take on the world.

No one is thinking the Supernova are a threat to Emperors, they're just pests.

Thousands of people don't know they're duking it, 1000s of people think they're heading towards their grave.

Only people who know they're duking it out are CP0, Beast Pirates and the SH alliance.

Welp, but my point is that the circumstances are different. Basically, this isn't dressrosa or ennies lobby. As big a deal as doflamingo was, his criminal empire was basically peanuts next to kaido's or big mom's. The scope of what is going on is incomparably larger by virtue of kaido's involvement and his massive crew and criminal empire than spawns across many islands and involves many other subordinates and allied crews. Let alone that other yonko, the marines and the world government already have their eyes set here, everyone is looking. The world government can try to spin the facts of what is going on at wano however they want but if what follows doesn't add up with their spin then the lie will unravel. Current yonko crews don't exist in a vacuum, they are far larger than anything that existed 40 years back as far as we know.

Wrong, it is essentially Dressorsa:
Lots of Pirate - Check
Lots of people - Check
WG presence? - Check
Fujitora - Nope.

Big Mom and Kaido also don't control media, so that's irrelevant. God Valley had all the strongest pirates in 1 crew come together, and their activities was still unknown.

His islands mean jack all.

What are they going to do? They're not there.

Pirates don't control the news, the WG does, this is the 1 thing we all need to understand.

Let alone that other yonko, the marines and the world government already have their eyes set here, everyone is looking.
And the WG and Marines still determine what the news will be.

Looking? No, they're not even there. Everyone isn't looking. Some people are there.

The WG still dictates the news for the most part.

The whole world has a video stream of what's actively going on? Or actually no, they don't. The WG can spin it however they want.

Lol, look at Dressrosa.... even with everyone there, it still took Fujitora to make sure the news wasn't spun meaning it would have been spun.

The world government can try to spin the facts of what is going on at wano however they want but if what follows doesn't add up with their spin then the lie will unravel.
Yes, 800 years of things not quite adding up, and it took a country of geniuses 800 years to add things up and come to SOME SORT OF CLUE that maybe the WG were covering something up.

We're really saying it's unlike that the WG can do something they've been doing for 800 years, lol.

That's like going up against a chess grandmaster who has played 1,000s of games, and then we conclude... this no-name people barely know is likely to defeat a grand master who is known as the best chess player in the world.

Seems like the most illogical conclusion anyone could come to.

Again, never said the news won't go out, but it would require a miracle.
--- Double Post Merged, ---

Current yonko crews don't exist in a vacuum, they are far larger than anything that existed 40 years back as far as we know.
This is pretty naive.

Yonko more or less means a Pirate who has lots of followers and territory.

You think the idea to:
have many pirates as subordinates.
territory.
Is a new thing? It's not an ingenius idea no one ever thought of for centuries.

These are just the current Emperors. There have been Emperors long before.

Did you forget... Rocks's main base was Fullalead and this was just 40 years ago.

This is like saying the concept of being rich (owning lots of things) is a recent thing. It's human nature.

The idea that only the Pirates of this era had this idea to accumulate wealth and power is pretty absurd. I doubt Pirates are that dumb.

Hell, Shiki wanted to join hands with Roger to take over the world. It's nothing new.

Lots of Pirate - Check
Lots of people - Check
WG presence? - Check
Fujitora - Nope.

Big Mom and Kaido also don't control media, so that's irrelevant. God Valley had all the strongest pirates in 1 crew come together, and their activities was still unknown.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

His islands mean jack all.

What are they going to do? They're not there.

Pirates don't control the news, the WG does, this is the 1 thing we all need to understand.

The point isn't just media here. Sure, the world government has the newspapers.. but people still talk. The world government can lie all it wants but if those lies don't add up with things people are seeing happening before their very eyes then obviously people won't believe the lie. That said, it is true that over time the world government absolutely has the capacity to erase an event over time as they have done before. But that's a different issue from whether they can actually stop the events at wano from leaking. Specially if luffy walks out of there figuratively with kaido's head. Even worst if he had his choice at kaido's crew's remnants or even a piece of his former territories and pirates all over the world are flocking to him (hypothetical yet viable scenarios).

There is no indication that anything like the yonko existed back in the day. There is no indication that roger's crew in its prime had anything close to the numbers or even influence the yonko today have. Shiki tried building such a force but failed. Rock's was a fairly large crew though there is no indication its numbers was in the thousands. Even when describing rocks a while back the point is made that big mom and kaido combining their crews would result in a mightier force than rocks.. During oden's flashback we saw how WB's crew at that point was evenly matched with roger's... And WB's crew from that point onward kept expanding, growing and becoming stronger. I doubt there is any indication that there was anything like the yonko before the current era. Certainly there were powerful crews, just not something with the power and scope of modern yonko...

Where did this people talk at:
Alabasta
Enies Lobby
Water 7
Thriller Bark
Dressrosa
You're not making any valid points here.
People don't mean anything.

There is no indication that anything like the yonko existed back in the day.
Wrong.

Just read the Manga details.

The idea there were no massive crews in the past is laughable.

Your argument is as bad as saying "there weren't people who wished to be wealthy until x-person arrived". It's godawful argument to say the least.

I'm all for bullying kick, but I don't understand how that contradicts what he said about the past not having a Yonkou system. Especially when they were all a part of one crew.

Yonko just means 4 Emperors.
Emperor is just the strongest pirates in the New world.

Why wouldn't there have been a Strongest Pirate crew? or Why wouldn't there have been a Strongest or multiple equally powerful pirates who controlled the New World?

That would be like saying the concept of a Strongest Swordsman or Strongest Pirate never existed until recently. There would always have been a group of Pirates that stood out.

Before the Yonko, it was Shiki, Whitebeard and Roger who were deemed rulers of the sea.

Prior to Whitebeard, Shiki, and Roger... Shiki and Roger were out the picture. Shanks and Kaido are the newest of the Emperors meaning Big Mom and Whitebeard were the 2 main powers after Roger and Shiki, and then Kaido and Shanked joined those ranks.

There would always have been a group of strongest, it's impossible to not.

There's always a superlative or best in anything at any one time.

The WG are.

My point was just showing that Morgans isn't really allied with the WG.

He may be persuaded or forced by WG, but there are times when he chooses to rebel as well, i.e. when he thinks he can get away with it.

Morgans isn't in Wano, but Apoo is.
Apoo is taking the photos and may narrate the events to Morgans. The possibility exists

Wrong.

I think what he means is that there was nothing like the Yonko system. Wherein, they rule over large swaths of land like legitimate emperors, to the point not even marines or world govt could screw with them.

Pirates or characters who were Yonko level in powerlevel or influence? Yeah, they probably would've existed for each generation.

But it seems like they were more of outlaws who had incredible influence, rather than defacto rulers.

My point was just showing that Morgans isn't really allied with the WG.
It doesn't matter, Morgan can easily be strong-armed. We already saw Stussy do it.
We already saw RA question his credibility.
We know there's a ton of fake news in One Piece anyway.

Morgan shot 1 weak CP0 agent and went rogue and produced actual news. That's what 1 day out of 300,000 days (800 years). The WG have been controlling the media for centuries. Morgan isn't that big a deal.

Morgan isn't important.

He may be persuaded or forced by WG, but there are times when he chooses to rebel as well, i.e. when he thinks he can get away with it.
He can't be persuaded by the weak. He can't go against the WG, he's really not that relevant.

Where was Morgan and his truth back in:
  • Alabasta where a Shichibukai was defeated by a no name? That's big news.
Morgan doesn't matter, the WG have this in their palm essentially.

Morgans isn't in Wano, but Apoo is.
Apoo is taking the photos and may narrate the events to Morgans. The possibility exists
Apoo is irrelevant.

He has what, a picture of CP0 in Wano. If anything, that just strengthens the case that CP0 defeated Kaido if they do take credit.

By the time the arc is over, the WG already have access to the news immediately.

Apoo is not exactly broadcasting the news on livestream for the world to see, so he really is irrelevant. CP() is already there. The WG control the news.

I think what he means is that there was nothing like the Yonko system. Wherein, they rule over large swaths of land like legitimate emperors, to the point not even marines or world govt could screw with them.

The idea is absurd is the problem.

All an Emperor is.. is a Pirate who has many followers, territory or feared the most in the New World.

The idea that there were no such Pirates until now is a very awful idea.

That's fundamentally saying Pirates had no ambition to be rich, wealthy, or own huge military power until recently?

That's literally like saying that Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos are the only ones who have had world wide influence and wealth. As long as people want wealth and power, there'd always have been richest people with the greatest influence, and the same is with Emperors. There'd always have been outstanding Pirates with the most authority in the sea, the greatest military power and the greatest of wealth.

The best thing that can happen for the news to go in favour of the SHs would be:
Zunesha wiping out CP0.
  • That might actually be the only thing that could possibly swing the news in favour of the SHs.

As long as the WG is there, they have control, but then the likelihood of Lucci and major CP0 members all being wiped out is low. I'd imagine the fodder are taken out, but Lucci and co. are far too important and highly ranked to be wiped.

Maybe they get deterred from Wano if they get wiped. Anything that can stop the WG from really knowing what's happened in Wano is the best thing that can happen for the news being in favour of the SHs.

That's absurd, you are equating being among the stronger pirates of any given era with being the yonko now. That's completely irrational. Sure, the yonko are the stronger pirates today... but they came to be known like that because of the extent of their influence. We saw roger's and WB's crew duke it out... It's clear that WB's crew was not nearly as large back then as it was today and even back then he was pretty much acknowledged as roger's equal. There is no indication that roger at any point in his career built anything resembling an empire like what the yonko have today. Rocks is the only crew from back in the day that sounds like it could even approach the magnitude of what the yonko were, due to gathering a bunch of conquerors under a single banner... And even then they seem more like they were pirates under an uneasy alliance than a full fledged pirate crew. Definitely nowhere near as united as modern yonko crews are.

Lol, that's hilarious.

Shanks challenged Whitebeard, and you'd have been saying his crew wasn't all that huge.

Marineford was the entirety of his alliance. He doesn't roll with them all the time.

His fight with Roger was coincidental, unplanned, it wasn't exactly Marineford, lol.

There have always been Priates with influence.

Did you even see Shiki who had the biggest fleet? Ed war?

Please, the idea that there weren't Pirates with huge influence back then is so laughable, lol.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

Even Luffy with just his tiny ass crew and what, 5400+ sized fleet is being claimed as the 5th Emperor potentially.

What's 5,000? Even Don Krieg had a crew of 5,000.

Only difference between Krieg and Luffy is Luffy can challenge the Emperors, therefore, he's potentially a 5th Emperor and he's easily the smallest in terms of size until later.

You think there weren't Pirates back then that were the strongest, had the greatest influence and crews easily over 5,000? And you think the idea of an Emperor then was foreign? Please, that's as silly as me thinking people only want to be rich in this era and that never existed in the past, lol.

I don't know what you mean regarding shanks there...

Sure, that was the entirety of WB's forces... but at a minimum kaido and big mom have empires of comparable scope. Shanks presumably has built his own criminal empire as well (though we don't have a reference to him having affiliated forces yet).

But... I haven't said there weren't influential pirates before. That's a huge, and very intentional, mischaracterization of what I am saying. I am obviosly not saying that there weren't pirates back then that were the strongest. That doesn't even mean anything. I won't respond further, you are just mischaracterizing what I am saying for... reasons?

I know, and I'm still disagreeing with that. There's no mention of four emperors being a thing back then, just four or so powerful, two who didn't care to be the best and two who didn't want to risk a Pyrrhic victory if they somehow won, but were still trying to get stronger. The manga also said or implied that having territories was one of the precursors to being an emperor, so what territory did any of the four have?

Why can't there have been 5 or 6 strongest pirate crews at the time? Or emperor not being a thing until way after Roger? You mentioned Shiki, Whitebeard, and Roger, but that isn't a Yonkou system with just three pirates, especially when ROger and Whitebeard weren't gunning for the top spot like Shiki was.

From what I understand, kick's point still stands, and you've proved it, but I"m going by "There is no indication that anything like the yonkou system existed back in the day." Two strongest, three strongest, maybe one strongest (if Rox pirates didn't have a rival on equal standing unless Roger was that strong), and whatnot before Big Mom, Kaidou, and Shanks joined the group. Very likely that the phrase was coined after Shanks became an emperor, and there was barely any fight between the four.

I don't know what you mean regarding shanks there...
Shanks meeting with Whitebeard before Marineford.

If you're judging the size of Whitebeard's crew simply off the Roger encounter, then you're clearly mistaken. Both Emperors at the time, yet their crews weren't exactly humongous in number. And that was just the main crew.

The only reason Whitebeard's crew looks big is because his entire fleet came to Marineford. Everyday is not Marineford day.

Look at Big Mom, she came to Wano with what.... Perospero, Flampe, Smoothie and co. Her crew isn't exactly looking huge. The crew she came with is nothing comparable to what we saw at WCI.

Point being basing Whitebeard's crew off his encounter with Roger is terrible logic.

What you see isn't necessarily the full scope.

When you see a crew at sea, doesn't mean that's the entirety of their fleet.

The idea there haven't been huge crews until now is plainly absurd.

Sure, that was the entirety of WB's forces... but at a minimum kaido and big mom have empires of comparable scope. Shanks presumably has built his own criminal empire as well (though we don't have a reference to him having affiliated forces yet).
Your reasoning is bad... which crew is running around with the entirety of its empire 24/7? Please name one?

But... I haven't said there weren't influential pirates before. That's a huge, and very intentional, mischaracterization of what I am saying. I am obviosly not saying that there weren't pirates back then that were the strongest. That doesn't even mean anything. It is what you're saying.

you are equating being among the stronger pirates of any given era with being the yonko now.
An Emperor is simply the most Influential Pirate in the New World.

Why wouldn't there have been Emperors back then?

You're saying there couldn't have been Emperors back then.

It's like saying there were no Super Rookies back in the day. It's not anew concept, there will always be up and comers.

Just like Yonko simply refers to the number of Emperors, Supernova simply refers to the number of Super-rookies (up and comers).

There may not have been 4 Emperors (Yon=4/Ko), but there were certainly Emperors (people who ruled the seas. Your argument makes no sense.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

There's no mention of four emperors being a thing back then,
There doesn't have to be specifically 4 Emperors, doesn't mean there weren't Emperors (most influential Pirate) back then. There may have been 1, 2,3 5.

We know there were 3 in Roger's era being Whitebeard, Roger and Shiki, the 3 most influential during their era.

May not have been called Yonko, it's simply a title for a term being "most influential".

We can't really be claiming there were no "most influential pirates" before the 4 Emperors. We already know there were Emperors before there were 4.

The manga also said or implied that having territories was one of the precursors to being an emperor, so what territory did any of the four have?
It never did, otherwise Luffy couldn't have been considered an Emperor.

Blackbeard didn't get recognised for territory, it was for taking out the Whitebeard Pirates showing both power and influence.

And alternatively, it also means there likely weren't such a thing as emperors back then, just strong pirates, with the possibility of others being close to the trio in strength. We don't know there were emperors before the original Yonkou around/after Roger, that's just you assuming there were emperors for whatever reason you have. Influential, sure, but nothing stating they were anything more than infamous. It's a useless and pointless argument anyway without actual evidence.

Anyway, maybe Hancock might be captured, influencing Luffy to at some point to try and rescue her. Until he reaches Raftel, he likely won't be going after the Marines or WG, so if Oda wants him to do that, Hancock being imprisoned would be a good reason. Might also be possible for Buggy to be imprisoned again for humor, especially since he seemed have been doing okay last time he was there.
