Some people keep on saying that Tobi is somehow connected to the dude called Obito from Kakashi gaiden and call it a theory. If I remember correctly it had it's peak when Kakashi saw the Sharingan eye of Tobi the first time they met in the forrest, when they were hunting either Itachi or Sasuke dunno.

I actually thought those theories all died out when Tobi himself claimed he's no one else but Madara, but apparently some fellows still can't buy it and do make out things like 'Obito is SO the body of Tobi, this is why he's wearing a mask'-something. Yeah..

yeah and let's not speak about:

obito in the body of madara who believes he's madara because of the body he is in but who is suddenly confronted with his own body (obito's body)

or

madara in the body of obito who believes he's madara because of the soul he is but who is suddenly confronted with his own body (madara's body)

I think this makes as much sense as the theories we had

For all Obito believers. I'll say only this: Minato fought Madara when Kyuubi attacked 16 years ago as said by Kishi himself. So if Tobi is Obito, Minato fought a small midget wearing a mask then? I just can't imagine it.

Hmmm....well it could have been before he took Obito's body. Maybe the reason for Madara needing Obito's body was because the damage done to Madara in his fight with Minato.

Not to mention that Obito's body was crushed in the Grass Country in the Gaiden...which just so happens to be where Zetsu is from.

Also, why does Madara not have the EMS, only a normal three-tomoe Sharingan? (It is an Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan...which sort of implies that it's activated all the time...an assumption)

It's not that far-out of a theory IMO, and I don't know why it is SO dismissed among fans.

I think most deniers simply hate it. Personally I'm not a big fan of it, but I can't ignore the massive hints towards it. I don't think Tobi was that damaged from fighting Minato as he goes on and on about being in this state because of Hashirama, and never spares a thought for Minato. Although it is possible that he's hiding his shame. I don't see how it's possible for him having taken Obito's body after being "defeated" by Minato though, as Obito died over a year before that happened (roughly), I guess it can be possible with some weird explanations + help from Zetsu.

Personally I have far more belief in the theory of Tobi being Madara's younger brother Izuna. It would explain alot. Why he's scared of the real Madara being summoned (I'm assuming Madara was summoned), why his EMS design isn't showed, because he doesn't have it. He most likely has another Uchiha's eye in that case. CAN be Obito's eye. It would explain why he's so understanding of Sasuke etc etc etc.

About the EMS design on the other hand. It can be Kishi simply trolling us with not showing it. As we've actually never seen a close up of Tobi's eye while he's actually performing his teleporting/warping technique. It's not farfetched to think that he goes around with his normal sharingan to conserve chakra, and only activates EMS when he needs it.
