Re: Your Favorite Quotes: Quotable Quotes! (Post it here)
I believe I'm unable to ever have favorites, because there are too many quotes I like - I solve this issue by not remembering any :P
My favorite sources of good quotes are Goethe and Joubert mainly:
"Every naivete is in danger of beeing ridiculed, but it does not deserve it. Because every naivete carries unreflected trust and a sign of innocence."
Joseph Joubert
(My absolute favorite quote, though I think it's only half the truth. Friedrich Schiller defined two sides of naivete, the positive one, which Joubert describes, and the negative one which is the negative aspect most people associate with naivete.)
"People don't designate their character more by anything than those things which they account laughable"
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
(It's hard to translate such sentences into other languages, the choice of words contain alot of interpretation already.)
"Capitalism is the astounding belief that the most wickedest of men will do the most wickedest of things for the greatest good of everyone."
John Maynard Keynes
"Words only have a single purpose anymore: They serve for entertainment. Count me out! We're standing at the grave of the word. The word did not die well. It wasn't strangled by the censors, as an empty word shell it drowned in the brackish water of arbitrariness!"
Georg Schramm in his role as Lothar Dombrowski
"When was the last time that the entertainment engine stopped turning and annoying us? Do you remember? 11th of sebtember most likely, 2001. You don't have to laugh "ohohoho" about that, wasn't it like that? It was possible to take a breath and deal with serious issues. All the comedy freaks and the tootling kept their traps for some weeks. But we can't just incinerate a skyscraper every quarter just to get some silence from time to time, that won't work either, there were innocents amongst the victims as well..."
Georg Schramm in his role as Lothar Dombrowski
"I'll give you an example of what would happen if we would take the best persons and ressources for our childrens' education: They'ld possibly only use their cellphones for phone calls. That'ld be desastrous for the growth industry. But if they chase their and their parents' last bucks through the phones, that's good for growth. And If the young people would birth childs and make them normal food, that's useless for economic growth. But if the parents cram five big-mac-donners into their fat children's throats, that's good for growth, because every big-mac-donner is an impulse for the food industry. And if they bring their small potbelly into hospital short before bursting, that's another impulse for the health industry! We need idiots, or nobody devours rotten meat!"
Georg Schramm in his role as Lothar Dombrowski
(Lothar Dombrowski is Schramm's role as a pensioner who loves Prussia and the emotion of wrath and always to talk s himself into a rage, critizing society)
