In no way was I being an asshole, unless you read it that way. I was simply explaining Zoro's role and position.

Didnt mean to hurt your feeling.

I dont know how you could have possibly taken what I said the wrong way..... I didnt insult you or belittle you.

You threw a tantrum for absolutely no reason
Roles & Position are words synonymous and similar enough to be used interchangeably depending on how you are using the words.
Simple words, looking them up shouldn't be necessary....Not unless when you tell someone its semantics, they reply with..its not as "they've clearly defined these simple words.......

Back track if you want..check your attitude/ego. I throw jabs back.

I was litterally responding back to you. No jabs were thrown. Your being overly sensetive

A role is the function you fill within your organization. It differs from your title(position), your role is what you actually do.

Thing is, Zoro is the only one who only ever answers to Luffy.
Quite sure Sanji has never followed Zoro orders

The closest thing is when both agreed that Usopp shouldn't get back to the crew like nothing happened

Although Sanji does what Nami or Robin ask

He doesn't. But I don't think he would never follow his orders. Sanji kinda just agrees or would reluctantly agree with an idea or decision Zoro would issue in any given situation. Like teaming up, or leaving protection of other members to Sanji..etc etc..

Does someone position not define the role they play?...

Does a title not almost dictate what your expected to do?

No need to be snobby in a response. Not interested in semantics that's a looped convo..like what we have here..if we agree he's 1st mate, agree on the evidence provided that backs that up. Why are we debating that Zoro's role & position are 2 different things...When in all actuality synonymous words being used to mean the same thing......pointless.

"It's not semantics when 1 person has 2 clearly defined "roles", both not reflective of eachother"

This comment is what triggered you. It wasnt snobby, I wasnt being rude, nor did insult you or name call. I was adding to the discussion at hand.

The name calling could stop tho?

See how you feel a way..As did I. Let it go and move on. Haven't called you name since that post. My last post explains why your response were just unnecessary response to thoughts you agree with. Ok, let's move on and remember to play nice with others.

Because when Luffy gives orders to Zoro, it's usually to do with combat. Others answer to Luffy too when he's serious and gives orders, but Zoro often gets it because he's either close to Luffy in terms of position and/or can fight.
Exactly even Sanji did dare strike back at a Yonko without Luffys expressed permission and they were In a life or death situation

Whereas Zoro immediately returned fire against an Admiral of Marines without asking for permission

I feel like there is a subtle pecking order being established inside the strawhats:

Luffy
Zoro
Sanji
Franky
Nami
Then everyone else in no particular order. Though Usopp has influence over Chopper if that counts.

2 Things when I read your comment.
1. Zoro VERY rarely gives out orders. In fact he gives out advice more than he orders. The crew sees him as more of the muscle which is why Nami, Ussop, and Chopper usually call out to him when Luffy isnt around.

2. How does Franky fit in?

It's not actually about orders though, like you said, it's about who's the right hand man. Or rather, who Luffy relies on more, who gets to take more decisions, and who gets to communicate with Luffy when he's not there. Even on the smallest or biggest of scales. Zoro basically gets to do his own thing, and people back him up on it, even Luffy doesn't question him. He's like a second Luffy with green hair and swords as far as his actions within the crew. Zoro is the guy who explained to Chopper why they follow Luffy in Alabasta, and the guy who explained to everyone why Usopp needs to appologise to Luffy. He was in charge of bringing Nami back when Luffy had to stay on Baratie to pay his debt to Zeff. (There is an actual panel where he orders Usopp to come with him). He took it upon himself to KO all of whiskey peak while Luffy was sleeping. He's the only one who deviated from Kinemon's plan and started trouble in Wano and Luffy did the exact same thing the moment he met with him. He's the one Luffy goes to when he needs something done without question: Zoro saving Smoker in Alabasta.

Sanji is a tiny bit less in tune with Luffy, but is still the next best thing. And Sanji and Zoro have great teamwork amongst themselves too.

Franky got to "lead" his own mini-group on Dressrosa, and helped Luffy interogate that one mook outside Doflamingo's casino. He is also the only one who actually tried his luck to get Zoro to call him Aniki lol

Though, tbf, now that I say all this, I have to give Nami and Usopp credit too. Nami runs the ship and Usopp also takes initiative in critical situations without asking permission, like he did with the giants on Enies Lobby and the Tontata on Dressrosa.

Guys, Zoro is not the first mate

The author avoided calling Zoro the first mate or vice-captain as much as he could

Sanji clearly does not respect Zoro authority, do you think anyone in the Roger Pirates would just ignore what Rayleigh said?

I'm telling you guys, when Jinbe finally steps in, we will see both Zoro and Sanji following his lead

I did say he RARELY gives out orders. Not that he never gives out orders. I do understand what your trying to say tho.

I think when the situation calls for it's the crew member with the best answer for said situation is the one in charge of guiding the crew away from danger or advancing their journey. But of all the Strawhats Zoro and Robin give out the least orders

I can 100% see Oden disobeying Rayliegh.
What about Oden makes you think he obeys orders from ANYBODY?

If Sanji and Zoro follows his lead it is only because he would have more experience with the situation at hand.

Nah I meant that he doesn't answer to anyone else other than Luffy. Others are usually put in situations where they have to follow someone else's lead.
Oh. That's because no one gives out an order to him that he'd listen to, other than Nami when it comes to navigating. And by listen to, I mean Zoro won't listen to Chopper telling him to rest or Usopp demanding extra protection, but he will listen if they tell him to do something to prevent the ship from sinking or whatnot. And isn't Zoro often by himself off the ship, usually because he gets lost?

There is no pecking order at all. When Luffy's not trying to be the captain, it's Nami that usually leads, at least when they need someone who knows how to navigate and stuff.

I think Luffy's way too laidback to be the captain all the time, and you can see that the only time he really gives out orders is when he wants to go somewhere dangerous or when it comes to fights. But otherwise the crew seems way too relaxed to really need a captain at all times, other than Nami.

Yes, I'm willing to bet at least one person would ignore what Rayleigh said or even have a rivalry with him, not counting Oden. The crew seems lighthearted enough that there'd be at least one person who'd defy Rayleigh. Sanji also does respect Zoro's authority, especially when Zoro makes sense.

Zoro and Sanji would follow JInbei's lead because there's no rivalry with Jinbei, and Jinbei comes across as a serious person who plans. Sanji is a perv while Zoro can be an airhead, and both are competing intensely against each other. When the time comes though, I'm willing to bet Zoro and Sanji will follow each other's lead if they have to to protect the crew.

Nami never gets to decide anything or make judgement calls. She just does her job with navigation and money management.

And Zoro really doesn't need to follow what Jinbe says or what Sanji says or what anyone says. He's almost as independant as Luffy. He's the only one who is like that.

She does make some judgment calls and tell the crew what to do when needed. I'm sure she has some role in deciding stuff as well.

Zoro can and would follow what Jinbei or anyone else says though, even Sanji. Why wouldn't he?

It's the way his character is designed man. He literally splits from the group without reason, and if they catch him doing it before he goes too far, he tells them they are the ones going the wrong way, and continues on his own path. Sure, it fits with the gag that he gets lost a lot, but it shows that if it's not what he would have done, he won't do it, unless Luffy is the one to ask that is.

With Nami, it's been a while that she's had to tell anyone how to help her with navigation. They basically just do it on their own as a team now. Also, Sunny has a helm. It needs a lot less effort than Merry did. And I'm not really trying to say that she doesn't get to help with decisions. She does. Everypnr foes. However, she doesn't get to decide on things alone like Zoro does. She doesn't have the power to act alone on her decisions and she usually has to manipulate Sanji to do her biding, while Zoro just tells him what he needs and counts on him.

Why are people even debating on this, its pretty obvious that Zoro is second in command and if you cant see it even after 962 chapter then i guess you will never get this story!

If Sanji only listen to Zoro if he agrees with him, by definition that's not authority.

But I bet it will be different with Jinbe. We will come across a situation which Luffy is not present, and Jinbe will just tell them where to go, and everyone will do it because "the vice-captain said so".

Jinbe isn't vice captain though. And Zoro wouldn't take orders from him.

How does that mean he won't listen to others? That just means he thinks he knows where he's going and overestimates his sense of direction, but that's about it.

Yes, but she still has authority and tells others what to do even if she doesn't tell them how to help, and I'm still willing to bet she has more authority than even Luffy until it's time to get serious (I forgot if I said this already). Zoro decides on things alone because Zoro is usually by himself, whereas Nami does not like to be by herself as she's not strong enough to deal with potential enemies.

Then none of the Straw Hats except for Nami has authority as most won't always listen to Luffy, and they're willing to hit him for being an idiot. The members will be more likely to listen to Jinbei as they do Nami because he's usually the voice of reason and common sense, and he plans things out even if incomplete.
