Because he's a great swordsman with his own style? At best, Mihawk could teach him one-sword style swordsmanship just in case. Hell, with Rayleigh Luffy only learned haki and did the rest on his own, so who's not to say the same happened to Zoro?

Improved techniques because of haki, as far as I recall. Learning better sword techniques is very broad and vague.
Zoro's a great swordsman, but Mihawk is the best swordsman. Both have different techniques, but at the end of the day, they share the same foundation in swordsmanship. The philosophies and ideas that Mihawk has learned during his time with a blade, Zoro can still apply to his own style. There is no reason to think that he can't or that Mihawk couldn't teach him anything about Zoro's own style. A comic illustrator and a fine arts painter have different styles, but that doesn't mean they couldn't teach each other anything, as they share the same foundation.

Rayleigh's goal was to just teach Luffy haki. Zoro straight up asked Mihawk to teach him more about swordsmanship, to which Mihawk agreed. Their lessons were completely different.

Zoro definitely improved his swordsmanship under Mihawk. IIRC there are no new techniques, but upgrades - based on sword techniques seen.

I would say the improvement/basics in haki is the most important thing. All the flashbacks with Mihawk are about Haki. BUT, haki is also a part of swordsmanship. Forgery of a black sword is a result of haki (as I remember it). Whether or not a blade breaks comes down to haki. So, I'm not sure if swordsmanship and haki, for a swordsman, should be viewed as exclusive.

We could see more things Mihawk trained Zoro in, once Zoro gets a serious battle. We haven't seen Asura, and we don't know why his eye is sealed/scarred.
like the air slash, right? Or could Zoro do that before the timeskip?

Haki and swordsmanship should be viewed as exclusive AND inclusive. Both are by themselves, but both can be combined to improve the swordsman, if that makes sense. It's like Sanji or Luffy's hand-to-hand combat - they're great, but haki makes them even better, but even with haki they wouldn't be that good if they weren't skilled at their art.

Huh, I think that is something that can easily be done by someone of that level

Honestly cutting ships is pre-timeskip feat though as many characters could destroy ships back then.

But why? The story told us what Zoro was going to train in and he came back with stronger, more developed techniques afterwards. You don't need to be spoon fed examples.

Zoro didn't even use hardening until Dressrosa. Before then, he'd still been using completely new techniques and moves not related to haki.

That sword is always black. It's Shusui.

I'd venture the guess that ultimately zoro's training with mihawk was somewhat similar to luffy's training with rayleigh. both learned haki from their masters. Haki is ultimately the core of combat in the series. Luffy spent basically 2 years learning it, it makes sense that zoro would take about the same time. Zoro would even need a bit more specialized training when it comes to haki since projecting it seems like an advanced skill and that is the bare minimum zoro needed. Overall it doesn't seem like zoro learned specific techniques from mihawk though. so far the bulk of what we have seen are simply improved techniques from the ones he had used earlier.

Because for all we know, Mihawk taught Zoro haki and maybe a bit of swordsmanship and let him do the rest himself, much like Rayleigh with Luffy. Rayleigh never taught Luffy Gear 4, but he taught Luffy haki, which led to Gear 4, as well as some other stuff like bouncing back projectiles in a productive way. Given what Mihawk is capable of, I'd love to see what Zoro has gotten from him.

Well, considering that we don't even know what Mihawk can really do in the first place, we wouldn't even know what Zoro got from him until we see Mihawk actually fight or get a flashback.

But, mainly, there is no real reason to assume that all Zoro learned was haki when the actual words in the story had him ask to learn swordsmanship. Learning haki is important and was obviously a part of the lesson plan, but Zoro's goal is to become the greatest swordsman, not the greatest haki user. There are still technical aspects of swordsmanship that haki cannot possibly cover. If Zoro had the strength of haki he did during his first fight against Mihawk, he'd still lose in terms of pure swordsmanship.

Rayleigh never taught Luffy Gear 4 because Rayleigh never had a devil fruit before, the Gum Gum fruit in particular. Unless you meet someone who knew a previous user, a devil fruit requires significantly more personal innovation than swordsmanship.

What if haki was the main thing Zoro had to learn to improve his swordsmanship, along with air slashes?

Rayleigh wouldn't have taught Luffy anything else because all he could teach was haki. I'm assuming Mihawk at the very least taught Zoro one-sword style, but who the fuck knows?

He just generally increased his strength and swordmanship

For example, he probably couldn't cut a ship before, or cut a house with a hand knife

Haki and swordsmanship should be viewed as exclusive AND inclusive. Both are by themselves, but both can be combined to improve the swordsman, if that makes sense. Air slashes probably come with strength, if I had to guess.

That's a fair point, like a venn diagram. At a certain level it seems imperative that they use haki, or get smoked.

As for technique I'm not really sure Mihawk helped Zoro develop any knew ones, or if he could, as they use different styles.

Rayleigh never taught Luffy Gear 4 because Rayleigh never had a devil fruit before, the Gum Gum fruit in particular. Unless you meet someone who knew a previous user, a devil fruit requires significantly more personal innovation than swordsmanship.
Rayleigh is still able to give advice. He's able to discern the limitations of G4 for example.

So far, it is only Haki and wouldn't surprise me if that is all. Zoro's swordsmanship remains unchanged.
He probably has technique(s) that he developed on his own up his sleeve tho(hoping for Indra with 4 arms).

Dunno, as Zoro was strong enough to do air slashes back before the timeskip as well. Perhaps there's haki involved?

Venn diagram is the perfect image! But yeah, I'm pretty sure once they get into the New World, every swordsman needs to know haki in order to survive. Rayleigh or someone did say haki is the minimum requirement for surviving the New World.

Mihawk could have helped Zoro with one-sword style, which Zoro could have used to develop his two and three-sword styles as well. Regardless of different styles, every swordsman must use at least one sword, so a one-sword style swordsman could teach anyone swordsmanship.

What’s this Venn Diagram? I don’t remember seeing a diagram lately in this thread, so I’m very curious :x

Yesterday I was watching a youtuber talking about Zoro scar and he said something very funny about this and I need to share kkkkkkk

He after explaining everything about the theory’s behind Zoro scar, he said he have one theory to. That Zoro is so lazy that he forgot to open his eye after he healed! Kkkkkkkkkk

I laughed a lot with this! Kkkkkkkk Just imagine, Sanji asks what’s happens with his eye and Zoro answers “my eyes are fine”. “So why your eye is closed?” “Oh, I just forgot to open or everyone’s here are so weak, I give this advantage to my opponents” kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
