High school student Hagihara Kou is the son of a hairdresser who lives in Tsukumo-dai Shopping District. One day, he meets the 17-year-old girl Misawo who works at the restaurant across the street from his mother's shop. He falls in love with her almost at first sight -- but soon finds himself a bit overwhelmed at how different and how much more mature she is compared to all of his peers. Though they're the same age, Misawo gave birth to a son at age 15, got married at 16, and divorced soon after. Resolving to support her somehow, Kou drops out of high school and begins working his way toward financial independence ...
