Double Arts was a real disappointment. Given that it was immediately the lowest ranked series in the magazine, Chagecha was no surprise.

If Mago ends soon, it will be a real shame. The most recent chapter really shows off how amazing the series truly is. The art is absolutely gorgeous and the character designs are all top notch. It is by far one of the most imaginative series to come around in years. If it doesn't survive long enough for an anime, then the japanese truly have no taste.

Without being repetitive I'll add that Mago worries me less then Sket and Psyren do. It won't be canceled until after volume 4 is out in April. My opinion is that it is turning into a DGM or To Love Ru type series that sells better then it polls. Psyren and Sket are still behind it in sales, although both improved in January. The shame is Psyren has been one of the best series in the magazine over the last couple of months.

Psyren ranked 14th in the Japanese comic poll last time. I'll be dying to see if it goes up, down or remains the same. Good thing it's being released earlier than usual (March 4).

You mean volume sales for #4?

Has anyone found out what hetappi means?

I thought it was an extra spot that's still free in case of d.g-m and/or hxh's return

Don't forget with chagecha, bari, d.g-m and hxh - 4 were ended (last two temporarily). While only three new (bokke, meister and kuroko) started. 4-3 = 1

Now two have ended meister and asklepios which makes it 1+2=3

but with hoop man, beezle baby and d.g-m there's no free spot anymore (3-3 = 0). So from this moment on there'll be a wsj run (till new series get rated) without one shots and a next axe will be decided once hxh and/or new series and/or one shots need a spot

Hetappi Manga Kenkyuujo R, koen. It's a monthly skit by Murata-sensei about being a manga artist, the main characters being Murata-sensei himself and Jump editor Saitou (former editor on ES21, currently on Gintama), though there have been cameos by Ichigo 100%'s mangaka Kawashita and Neuro's mangaka Matsui. The skits themselves are actually quite fun, but I never got around to translate them because they're extremely heavy on text and go quite technical sometimes.

And it's not ranked in the ToC.

Its full title is Hetappi Manga Kenkyuujo R. It's a manga illustrated and written by Murata Yusuke (the artist of Eyeshield 21). It runs about once a month in Weekly Shonen Jump and consists of 6-7 pages each chapter. The chapters are called 'steps', and from what I can tell it's basically a manga about how to draw manga. It's even listed on this web page with some scans if you wanna take a look at it. http://mangahelpers.com/m/hetappi-manga-kenkyuusho-r

^ Heh, beat me to it with more useful information then I had. Thanks!

There was a really funny Sket Dance chapter about Hetappi.

on a humourous note, your homework today is to look up the name of the one shot in 2003's issue 50.... it's funnily similar to crimson king... cause it's king crimson. coincidence but still.

anyway i think the coming months are bringing in some nice sales figures for the new series, whether it be the 3/4 new pillars that appear to be appearing (action=toriko, drama=bakuman, gag appears to be inumaru dashi at the moment)
we just need a good selling sports manga and the current high runners will matter a lot less!

You know I just had a realization concerning Mago: if it makes a year but still ends, it's still a good sign for the mangaka's case. Just because you fail on the first try (it is his first series) doesn't mean you can't come back stronger, particularly for one who makes a year. Both Kano and Iwashima have shown that lately (yeah I know Mx0 was two years...but it built on Pretty Face's one)...so that means that if Mago does end after it hits a year (can't say it will or not), the mangaka is in a good position when he returns to the magazine.

Regardless, it's still a shame, because of how well put together Mago is... Wasn't it the most popular oneshot of 2007?

Considering how easily Jump cancel mangas, I think that anything that managed to last for at least a year can be considered a success, at least for the ones who read it >.>;

Yeah. Volume five comes out in March instead of April, so we'll get to see sooner whether or not Psyren is improving in the eyes of the public.

It's not a shame till it's canceled =P

Yeah, it won the 2007 Golden Future Cup. And of course last years winner: Beezle Baby.

I don't think Mago's in much danger yet either. Sket Dance and Psyren survived after even longer in the bottom and I don't see it leaving before Neuro, To Love (maybe anyways I dunno how close it is to ending) or any of the potential collapsing new series.

as kaiten-sama has continually pointed out, mago has been selling damn well for where its at, and jump wont wanna get rid of that.
i think its more of a shame that it hasn't gotten very popular around here for how good it is. i dont think it took psyren or bakuman nearly as long to get popular enough to call for a board. que sera sera

lol crimson king......all i can say is it better be packed with king crimson references and virtuosos

It still better get out of the freakin' bottom five.

Double Arts had a bigger following as well. Which is strange as Mago is a better series. Where Double Arts plot meandered aimlessly, Mago's developed very quickly. Shiibashi's art, panel work, and character design are unbelievable.

For some reason Toriko and Mago seem to have found a limited audience here. Toriko has yet to become as popular as Psyren, Bakuman, and Arts. Not to compare quality (Psyren and Bakuman are great series) but it deserves just as much online acclaim.

I'd say that since Toriko is as popular as it is, it does not need to worry about online support. Bakuman either. But anyway...can someone tell me something about these characters from Hikaru no Go? I have no idea about the ones on the left (other than Akira) or right (other than Hikaru and Sai). I have never seen them before. Are they new to the re-released volumes?
