I just want a sports manga with a likable cast of main characters. Kuroko's team is pretty lame. I was really hoping they'd create their own Generation of Miracles but instead we get 3 lame-o's. Sure they have quirks, but they're just bland. Kind of similar to Meister I guess.

Eyeshield wasn't really about the football for me, but more for the characters. Sena, Hiruma, Kurita, Musashi, Monta, and everyone else was so memorable. It looks like Kuroko and the other guy are leading the show with everyone else as side characters, which is lame. I was originally the biggest Kuroko fan too, but I got bored of it around chapter 12..

Hopefully Bokke-san goes back up the charts, it and Beelzebub are my only remaining likable newcomers.

Why does Togashi get so much free reign? As far as I know the only hits he has are Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter X Hunter. And while they are both excellent series, I'm would not think that gives him slacking privilages. Unless he is constantly ill (I have no idea), why can he do pretty much whatever he wants when other popular Jump mangaka can't (or can they)?

Togashi has made a lot of money for Jump ^^

He's been with the magazine for over twenty years and while Yu Yu and H x H have been his only long series, his (deliberately) short series like Level E all did well. He's earned the right to have a less brutal schedule. Remember, Yu Yu was part of the golden ages "big three" while Hunter x Hunter remains one of Jump's most popular current titles. And it's not that unusual an arrangement. Naoki Urasawa had a similar deal with Pluto. The same for Takehiko Inoue with Vagabond and Real. Berserk may be most notorious for taking long breaks; 301 chapters since 1989, serialized in a bi - weekly magazine.

And I'm all for mangaka having breaks and such, but come on. Even after these extremely long hiatuses he stays only for like 10 weeks. Why doesn't Jump put him in Jump Square or something and keep the chapters at weekly length? Also what were the other two series of this golden age Big 3?

Dragonball (Z) and Slam Dunk.

Funny that the mangaka of Yu Yu and Slam Dunk have the same work ethic XD.

While it's not always great for the readers Togashi is able to draw a volumes worth of chapters at his leisure, release them all together, and then enjoy himself for a little while. Even switching to monthly would be a more traditional grind, something he clearly has no interest in. For Jump, it's better to have him on an irregular basis then not at all. H x H is so big that a volume or two a year is better then none at all. And the breaks don't seem to effect popularity at; it remained one of the ten most popular titles in 2008. I would also love a chapter a week of Hunter, it's a great series. But he'll probably never work on a regular schedule again.

Yeah, you are right...a little is better than nothing. I heard a rumor that the anime might be starting again someday, I hope that is true...

One way you can think of HxH is to also think of Magazine's Kindaichi. Both are successful series by notable mangaka and are huge every time something new comes out. But both have mangaka who have other projects or desires and rather not publish too regularly, so they instead just give a few chapters every once in a while and then dissapear away to do other things. (then again, Kindaichi is slightly different: that can just have shorter stories easily due to being a detective series...and the writer has and is doing a ton of stuff at Magazine alongside others...heck, currently they're the writer of "Ahiru no Sora" and is also known for "Getbackers")

The Reborn cover is actually pretty cool, in spite of the Vaira storyline that it covers. And the Bleach cover also looks good, by that same tokien.

i can't say i like any of those covers (gintama's is pretty good though), but otherwise it's exactly what i expected and all very generic for their respective series

The stories in Bakuman make me wonder if Ohba and Obata are going to make bonus oneshots of the fake manga in the series. Some of them actually look pretty cool. XD

Sort of surprised we're getting another Hijikata cover...but since it's actually Toshi, it makes some sense. Also nice seeing Manta on the final SK cover and...well, I wanted Komamura but Shuuhei makes sense for what Bleach is covering.

Most of the covers are decent. Nothing mind blowing but then again Bleach covers tend to be generic anyway so I wasn't expecting much there.

I think I like the Reborn one the most.

Yeah, the Reborn one is very cool. I don't know if anyone else noticed, but on the Kuroko no Basket cover, Kuroko is transparent. I was hoping Hisagi would be on the Bleach cover so no dissappointments there. And I am glad that this is the last Shaman King volume because now Takei can stop making the Ultimo chapters so short.

According to this week's chapter of Toriko, on the first episode of that " JumBang" show there's going to be a voice comic of Toriko. Has anyone else heard about this thing, I know the ANN news post was shown a while back. It starts next Friday at 6PM JST. Could be interesting.
