I personally think Perez Hilton's reaction was over the top. However, Miss California's answer was just equally self-centered. if marriage were based on procreation alone, then hell yeah it should be "opposite marriage" only as well. but the thing is, marriage is supposedly also based on love (according to the same camp that are anti-gay) so why stop two people from loving each other like that and uniting, to be known to society that they are committed to each other?

isn't that the purpose of marriages anyway? aside from the union and all that emo shit, it's about the legalities- announcing and declaring to the rest of the people that you have this certain status, so other people ought not to consider you eligible anymore, thus saving the time for everybody else, etc. etc. etc?

No. Marriage is a religious ceremony between two people of opposing genders. And the purpose of marriage is procreation. Now, how would two men create their own kids aside from cloning? Would they be the epitome of gays, who multiply without procreating? (okay that is one stupid sentence. I'd leave it here for some uber facepalm-ness.)

personally, let's just give the word and its definition to the religious zealots and eradicate it from secular use and elevate something like "domestic partnerships/civil unions" or some new legal jargon to encompass both same and opposite sex "onjugality" under our laws which have the same legal status as "marriage between a man and woman". so people of whatever sexual preference or orientations in all permutations get "conjugal partnerships' under the state and only those of opposite sex get married in church. simple separation of the church and state. period.

the only problem for the church is if its between a gay guy and a lesbian gal....it's still a marriage between a "woman and a man" respectively right? :haha

That would be under "wickedness". You know it's wrong, your religion says it's wrong but you're still gonna do it because you want it. Better yet, make apathy the number one law in the country and no one will bother with what you do anymore.

That is how I personally think it should be done, too. I don't want my marriage given a different definition, but I want people to be able to choose as they should in a democracy. So give it a different name and I'll be just fine.

And bb, what she believes in really doesn't matter. Why should she be disqualified from winning a contest just because her opinion isn't the same as the ironically-named "liberal" media's? That was quite close-minded of the judges.

well mj. gathering from two videos I watched, she wasn't disqualified. she just lost. period. and the reason is because she sucked at the answer. just like the rest of the losers in a beauty pageant. they lose because they don't impress the judges with their answer.

if she really was disqualified, then I'm lost.

@miss usa: yeah that's what i felt too, i support the third sex. she can be entitled to her opinion, perez can be entitled to his/her opinion too. in the end, the one who decides, decides. i've accepted that fact in my interviews in the past

Well, yeah she was technically not disqualified, but her beliefs are the reason why she lost, according to Perez Hilton (who was one of the judges).

Her losing because of her beliefs is not fair. At least he could've given a BS PC response like her answer wasn't coherent enough, or whatnot. But since he said that's the reason, I call him stupid.

i dunno how the scoring is with beauty pageants but does Perez have the sole power over that decision? other judges had input too, i guess.

Please understand that the organization behind the pageant is also campaigning for the rights of gay, lesbians, queers, whatever so they're hurt by what she said. Like a slap to the face.

And why didn't they have just stuck to the usual boring questions?

eh to me the world is dying from overpopulation so its a good thing just kidding, procreation is indeed the main purpose of marriage but hunt, gays have existed since the dawn of time. it's innate. civil marriages occur, because not all agree to the religious concept. you have to be open-minded here, gays exist, what do you do, force them? think of it in the opposite way, what if you were in a gay world and you're not allowed to marry? absurd it maybe, but you're standing on a social pillar built on patriarchal, so it's biased one way or another. whites hate blacks, muslims hate jews, nazis, etc. co-existence is the key. you shouldn't base on religions alone

I don't want to accept something that I feel is immoral. Morality is what separates us from animals and savages, not honor and patriotism.

Then your concept of morality is wrong. Homosexuality is a psychological development resulting from lack of proper influence. Heredity has NOTHING to do with it. It can be "cured", just like any other psychological disorder, but an environment that is as tolerant as this makes it impossible. Hell, Even so-called "Men of God" isn't above this. Soriano is one, and that's why he's tolerant of his "special" members.

And the social environment IS the source of this... social (and political) imbalance. The reason white people look down on colored people is because they presume to be the guardians of humanity, they are the new chosen ones of God, and that their ideology shaped mankind's progress since a millennium ago.

And what the hell are we arguing over a stupid endless social problem? I blame Perez Hilton for his utterly biased and incensing media statement. I also blame Ms. California for joining a pageant that is known to advocate beliefs opposing hers.

Yeah, it's been there for awhile, and it's not a cheat, but a "cheat": something that's there so you don't have to get Carpal Tunnel from the lousiest of reasons .

And let's not argue about homosexuality, shall we? I have my own beliefs about it and marriage, and I'm rather extremely conservative, but we have a democracy for a reason.
