Ah, was the title called "Tokyo Akazukin"?
I agree the excessive gore and surreal theme makes it hard to swallow for some :p

from raw-paradise.com

Shônen Jump :

#24 (11/05) :
Medaka Box (New Serie, Couv & Pages Couleur)
One Piece
Naruto
Inumaru
Blezeebub
Bleach (Page Couleur)
Toriko
Bakuman
Kuroko no Basket (Page Couleur)
Reborn
Kochi
Gintama
Psyren
Sket Dance
Nuraryon no Mago
Eyeshield 21
To Love
Hoop Men
Jaguar
D.Gray-man (Absent)

comment: newbies are getting and remaining in the top. After toriko, beelzebub seems another hit. Gintama and reborn are the ones doing less than expected.

*Wants to read Medaka Box*

Beelzebub and Toriko in the top 5 I can appreciate. Bakuman right behind it is good too. Reborn and Gintama lower is unexpected.

Concerning that, the one-shot should be released tomorrow, I just need to finish up typesetting. And do my eyes deceive me...but is Inumaru above Toriko...

It's kind of scary how top series are being pushed to the middle of the magazine like this. And yeah, that Inumaru rank is shocking. Top 3?! Really?!

That is great news to hear. I'm glad you are almost finished. :D

Inumaru above Toriko feels so wrong for some reason...

It actually makes things a bit more interesting imo.

I was so shocked at seeing it I couldn't even comment the first time around. >.>

Wow. I don't comment much, but it's a little disturbing to see Gintama so low....now I know it's not like this is what will cancel it, but it's been a shocking trend. I'm so torn though! I like Belzebub, but hate Gintama being so low >_<.

I'm quite happy with this TOC. I enjoy seeing some of the underdogs at the top of the list. Should be a very interesting next few weeks with new series starting and all.

I enjoyed Inumaru's first chapter, so I really hope these high rankings give it the push it needs to be scanlated.

Beelzebub's a solid series. A top five series? Maybe, maybe not. Toriko and Bakuman are quite a bit better. But it's new and has plenty of time to grow.

I think it has what it takes to rank in the top five....depends on where the author takes it. Right now it's got pretty much everything a shounen fan can ask for, other than loads of fanservice. Though....I can see it getting there.

BTW Kaiten....can you PM me? It's about you know what.

I think Beezlebub deserves the top spot. Every chapter just has a sense of quality that is absent from most manga. Even manga like Toriko, which need to develop and take some time before they reach that status.

The week after this will be the key week, because I'd like to see Bleach's real rank among the rest. For once, it might not even make the top 5.

Bleach may be moving up, if I read this thing correctly :/

Mushishi is quality manga. Beelzebub is fluff. Entertaining fluff but never the less.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.2

1 One Piece
2 Naruto
3 Inumaru
4 Beelzebub
5 Toriko
6 Bakuman
7 Reborn
8 Gintama
9 Psyren
10 Sket Dance
11 Nurarihyon no Mago
12 Eyeshield 21
13 To Love
14 Hoop Men

Inumaru rocketing back up should improve my attempts to bag a translator for it.

and one day a raw scanner will handle it again.... one day.

other than that, i'm beginning to go cold on beelzebub. not because it's bad, but because it isn't a top 5 series to me. There's so much better material below it

I think I know what you mean. Beelzebub is funny and entertaining, but I'd rather see Sket Dance up there. It's funnier and at times very emotional.

And I've got a question about Toriko. Does it get that much better later on? I've enjoyed what I've read so far, but top 5 always seemed a little too high. Is Kuroko the same deal?

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.2

I am very happy with this ToC. Toriko and beelzebub show that there's material enough to make long running shounens shorter eg reborn, bleach and others. There'll be a day (and we're getting to it now) older series will suffer because they are taking too long while refreshing series want their place too.

Anyway, every serie should walk a neuro/muhyo path: long enough but not too long to become slow and boring. Good path for mago, psyren, sket, toirko and beelzebub to walk on.

One piece is a the biggest exception to all this. Toriko and beelzebub are so good a shaman king cut for a bigger serie would be justified

That would be in a more sensible, interesting world. The problem is that certain series turn into money making machines and sort of lose their plot or their concepts long ago. There are certain longer Jump series that essentially have the feel that their tales have to be long or were built into being so: OP and, in a weird way, Naruto. They need the time to tell the tale and are popular enough to tell it how they need to. Many of the others are more like factories: they have the ideas and concepts to run a more concise, great series, but choose not to and prefer to stall both to please themselves and the editors. (Bleach, Reborn) Not really including series like KochiKame or Gintama, which are more a different mold in that they tell what they need to or what they want to...and in Gintama's case, can end if it's told enough or at the drop of a hat. (told a friend yesterday: if Gintama finally does tank, then Sorachi can easily tell the remaining key tales in 2-3 volumes akin to Nube's final volumes and he'd have a successful, great run) It's too hard to say what direction the newer series will head in, but they all do have potential to be seen or heard greater than they are...but aren't due to the longer runners, whether they be epics or factory.

As for this week's TOC...well Beezle seems to be getting preferential treatment akin to a few other newer series as of late (Toriko, Bakuman, Kuroko), so at least somehow something did snap in Shueisha's mind to start doing this. And Inumaru in the top 3 is surprising.

I personally think that during the mandatory Cover/CP weeks for new series, we should just sit tight and take the rankings with a grain of salt.

As for Inumaru's jump... who knows, it could be that the chapter 8 weeks ago had something that gave it a boost. It's a shame that we have no way of knowing :p (because of the lack of raws).

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.2

I think that if a series starts to exceed Dragonball's length and is not still good, it really needs to end. That's what I call a douchebag series. A series that doesn't realize is sucks and won't give up to let in a new generation, because they want money. :)

I also think it's interesting how there's only three patterns with new series recently:

1. They stick around the middle for the most part, collapse for a while and then get a rebirth around the lower middle.

2. They spike up to the top five automatically and stay there.

3. They just collapse right away.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.2

Well... To me, I like this way is better than some of those back in the days, where they went up to top 5, and then came down hard... *cough* Shaman King *cough*
Less disappointment.
