1. mihawk and shanks are both swordsman. -> stated by databook
2. mihawk is stated by oda to be the most powerfull/strongest swordsman alive -> stated in the manga by oda
3. Shanks is stated being mihawks rival -> stated in the manga and databook
4. Haki is also being used in a swordfight, just like the woman on amazon lilly used haki with their weapons. -> stated in the manga
5. despite knowing that, mihawk is still stronger then shanks. (else he wouldnt have been strongest swordsman stated by oda)

6.Facts are, even if shanks would go all out using his haki against mihawk, he will still taste defeat.
-> fact stated by obviously other facts posted before
7. and no shanks does not have other skills then swordmanship and haki, unless its being stated he has a DF, wich hasnt happened. -> it was stated and showed he's a swordsman.
8. mihawk has a big chance of having a extremely powerfull haki also, maybe even stronger than shanks, but we dont know that yet, maybe we will see that in this war :)

Would you care to state these facts?

As far as I know, there aren't any. If there were, there wouldn't be a need for discussion about it.

Well, for me, that's not enough. If it's enough for you, then why bother partaking in this discussion anyway? It's not like you contributed to it. That facepalm should be directed to you yourself and your one sentence posts.

I won't limit myself to something that was stated in chapter 50. Mihawk being the strongest swordsman is true so far, but there's one person he doesn't want to fight. That's Shanks. I don't know what exactly is going on between them, but I remember Shanks challenging him to which Mihawk refused.
This may sound harsh, but he has no right of keeping the title of the strongest swordsman if he refuses to duel with one of Yonkou. No matter what the reason.

Here we go again.
As I said a old topic. It was clear from the beginning that we have to repeat our arguments from previous discussions. :)

Oh yeah, involving Zoro in this is really unnecessary. The only reason he wants to fight Mihawk is because he's known to be the best swordsman. If some swordsmen managed to defeat Mihawk, Zoro's target would change.
You are completely right. If Mwk get's beaten then Zoro's goal would change. Mwk is the strongest until proven wrong.

But honestly do u see that happening? I mean their battle is hyped for 10 years now. It is one of the most anticipated battle, maybe even more than Luffy vs BB. The OP fanbase are looking for that battle since Mwk appeared in east blue. Do u rly expect Oda to change Zoro's goal? I rly don't see that coming and I believe u will agree with me on that.

But they haven't fought in ages. And if people are going to keep repeating that goddamn title, we may as well just end the discussion.
Mwk is acknowledged as the strongest sowrdsman by charackter in the story, such as Zeff and also he was labbed by a infobox from Oda as the strongest. Of course we will keep repeating that title, since that proves his position among swordsman e.g at the very top.

It doesn't matter if those two didn't fought in ages. It is all about Oda. He labelled him as the strongest and he made one of his protagonist go after Mihawk. So it's only natural that Mwk is the best among swordsman.

Not saying he has no equal, since that would be stupid. But even if its just 1% power difference, he is stronger. I expect their battle to be similar to Luffy and Lucci. Even though Luffy won, he almost lost his life doing so.

on this "other skills" part,i wont assume anything that we havent seen
I appreciate that, Thank you.

but splitting the heavens by the clash of his haki to WB's !! that tells a lot
It is similar to the Aqua Laguna, which Luffy and Zoro made a hole thorugh. Was that Zoro or was that Luffy? Neither of them alone. It was a power combination of both. So lets say 50/50. Same with the heavens split thing, it was 50% from Shanks.

now i'll tell my example again, which probably fell to the previous page already. imagine there is a guy with the title "the strongest boxer". would it also mean he's superior to luffy just because luffy also uses punches? well he uses punches but he is not a boxer at all.so this definition wouldnt work on luffy to compare.i believe same principle work between shanks and mihawk. they both have swords, one of them uses it with the greatest skill in the world, the other just uses it as a tool with supportive skills.
I don't understand why you are taking haki as a fighting style on its own. We saw Rayleigh (swordsman), Luffy (bare-handed fighter) and Sentomaru (Sumo) using it. Haki can be used independent from fighting styles. Those three are using different fight styles, yet they are able to use haki in their battle (Im aware about Luffy, but he soon can). Haki is just a powerup or a better fuel. It is not a fighting style on its own.

Now a swordsman only fights with his swords, as Zoro proofed so far. If there is a guy who switches his fighting style from sword to sth else (like Nightmare Luffy for instance) then he can't be considered as a swordsman. Let's say Shanks would use a pistol and sword, then he is NOT a swordsman.

However haki is completely different. Haki can be used to imbue weapons, to predict and repel attacks. (There are other uses of haki too, but they don't matter in this 1vs1 battle). So Shanks would proabably use haki like Margrett did (well she used a bow, but the weapon doesn't matter). He would probably imbue his sword with haki. Thus his attacks would be more powerful. But still, as long he wields a sword, he is a swordsman. Rayleigh used also a sword and haki, but no-one calls him a haki man. He is a swordsman, same with Shanks.

This may sound harsh, but he has no right of keeping the title of the strongest swordsman if he refuses to duel with one of Yonkou. No matter what the reason.
I understand your point. However I don't get Shanks. I mean he fought equally with Mwk before he lost a arm. Then after coming from the east blue, Mwk apparently refuses to battle with him. But what is with Shanks? he could simply attack him to provoke Mwk to fight. But it seems he didn't. So either he accepted his defeat or he lost interest in becoming the best swordsman. Anyway, im my point of view, it puts him beneath Mwk, since Shanks is acting passive. I believe Shanks just lost interest more than Mwk did.

Nope just reread that chapter he didnt refuse at all he just called him weakling
If he wasn't in his league anymore why not just go pen knife on him like he did zoro.

I really can't decide on who would win to many unknowns but I would guess shanks
Even if shanks is a swordsman whats to say he would even just stick to swordplay?

Thats not how shanks is remember first chapter? he won't start a fight even with weaklings unless they do something to warrant it like hurt his friends.
plus he doesn't want to be the best swordsman he wants to be pirate king which even mihawk said is harder then being the best swordsman

Where exactly is that stated? I can't remember that.

About Shanks character, he certainly is a easy go man. But it is stated that he fought Mwk several times equally. Thus I expect some fighting will, eagerness, pride etc I mean Mwk is mocking him with refusing to battle with him. I get that Shanks can't be easily provoked, but I rly don't like his attitude here. His passive behaviour puts him under Mwk, imo.

Swordsman stick to their swords, like Zoro did for every serious battle. Nightmare Luffy for instance could wield a sword, but he can't be considered as a swordsman, same with WB. Also we have no other informations on Shanks, beside that he is a swordsman.

Shanks said *I'm not in a good mood right now, Are you coming here to fight me?* so both didn't want a fight so lets just throw this out already.
Was luffy weaker the bellemy because he refused to fight him? no he knocked him out with one punch.
All we got to go by are titles at the moment we have nothing else. so all we can do is speculate

For now I'm saying both die if they fight

I'm still thinking Mihawk never had a crew. His personality (what little we've gleaned of it) speaks of someone who rarely cares for company.

Yeah I tend to believe your opinion much more than the ideas several people have had that Mihawk was once a member of Whitebeard's crew. Also if you think about it Zoro was originally sailing on his own while looking for Mihawk. One of the big reasons that he joined with Luffy is due to the fact that Zoro is an idiot and can't find his way out of a paper bag; in other words Zoro realized the only way he would ever find Mihawk is if he joined a pirate crew that was worthy of him. Mihawk could easily have been the same way but actually smart enough to sail on his own and survive.

Back to the topic at hand it appears from this that it is highly likely that Mihawk and Shanks have not fought one another for 10 years or so. I for one do not believe that 10 years ago Shanks was a Yonkou or even close to one rather I suspect that he was a Supernova at that time. This would suggest to me at least that Shanks has gotten considerably stronger in the years since he fought with Mihawk. That is not to say Mihawk has not gotten stronger either I just think that Shanks has probably improved more since I doubt he is solely a swordsman.

How can mihawk not have a crew? Can a man really be a pirate on his own? It would be interesting to meet his former crew at some point lol.

I am inclined to believe that either they are equals(as they were in the past) or mihawk is slightly superior due to the extra arm(and bleach taught us that 2 arms are better than 1 lol).

Off topic but Bleach also taught us that 2 arms are better than 6 here.

Back on topic... There is no requirement that in order to be a pirate you must have been or currently be a part of a crew. It is certainly much harder if you aren't part of a crew but being part of a crew is not a prerequisite to being a pirate. If that were the case then this person is not a pirate.

Of topic, I would argue at that point he still was not a pirate and he still was merely aiming to be one.

I think having a crew is a prerequisite to being a pirate. IMHO a pirate without a crew is merely an outlaw....

He had to start somewhere.

Unless you somehow believe that he embarked on his adventure life in that coffin of his and that he was strong enough to sail on his own 20 years ago (probably more) and that he had his sword from the beginning.

He was probably with some crew at first, trained at fought. Then he left them or they retired or died or maybe both and found himself the best sword. Not necessarily in that order.
I'd say he fought someone and the sword was his prize. Maybe it was that guy on Kuraigana too.

Yes, we all know that, but I really don't get Mihawk. He should be aware that Shanks is a lot stronger now then he ever was before.
I don't know. I think he considers him an equal, but thinks that the fact that he has both hands would be deciding factor in their duel. Maybe he doesn't want to fight out of respect.
Well, we know next to shit about Mihawk, so it could really be anything.

I maintain that Mihawk has the best swordsmanship. With only one arm, Shanks can't match him in a friendly duel. That doesn't mean Shanks would lose if they were going at it with all they had. We have several examples of Shanks displaying extreme power, and all we have of Mihawk is his title, which is open to interpretation, and that he knows he's below Whitebeard.

Still though, I'm eager to see what happens between Mihawk and Luffy.
