Re: Hunter x Hunter by Togashi Yoshihiro

Because it's one of the most used cliches in manga. And HxH has done rather well on staying away from pretty typical cliches.
well it's deviating towards them now isn't it, how else do you expect gon and killua to beat other powerful characters, this was bound to happen, like I said, training will only take you so far.

Who says that Gon and Killua will be there? Togashi hasn't exactly kept with that cliche where the main protagonists fight against the evil. Gon and Killua didn't fight Chrollo at the Yorkshin finale. In fact, they didn't even have a real fight against any of the Spider members during that arc.
obviously they would'v lost then, look at gon now. you think any of other characters right now can face the ant king?? there are 3 or 4 characters who are potential threats to the ant king combat ability wise. If gon and killua wont face the ant king in the and, then who hisoka will? or someone from the spiders then? that wis ridiculous to even happen

Netero seemed like an even-headed gentleman. He never seemed frustrated at all during his fight with the King, even when he knew this battle meant his death and that he was outclassed. He meditated when he was younger, which I'm sure he kept until his death. He does not seem the type that required an emotional push to achieve what he did.
Besides, remember Kurapika's nen tutor? He said revenge will get someone nowhere, which is true. I honestly see that as foreshadowing, and I can see Kurapika losing his life in his crusade to eliminate the Spiders. Kinda off-topic on the last part. But the second sentence is what I was going for.[/QUOTE]

netero didnt went through any sort of that transformation here. can you imagine netero having an extreme emotion and suddenly unleashing some power he never thought he had, NO that is cause he mastered everything he could learn in all his years, but
gon and killua have more potential than netero and they are bound to surpass him in the future

btw as soon as the fight started some people pretty much predicted that netero would lose this fight, too soon for the king to be beaten

now kurapica on the other hand is a very interesting character, he's grown extremely strong and I can almost imagine him fighting him with big players if given a chance

Do you really think that Gon and Killua combined will be able to take out the King? Something a bomb of that magnitude couldn't do (which surely would have taken out Gon and Killua)? Something Netero couldn't do? Killua will not have that emotional punch that Gon has. Kite barely meant anything to Killua, other than being Gon's friend.
as i said before the emo powerup doesnt suit killua but fits perfectly in gon and in the future they'll have to be made stronger. their individual increase in strength coupled with their teamwork will eventually take down the ant king, I mean who other will take the king down some even more powerful villain or another hyped character, when the king is already at a diff lvl than all other hunterxhunter characters

No he will not. What about all the Spiders? And Hisoka? The King will not be the last villain. There are too many open threads that need closed. This arc is probably very misplaced, because the King seems like he would be the ultimate villain, but Togashi has made too many subplots that need finished.

frankly spiders and hisoka are fodder in front of netero let alone the ant king with his new upgrades. well it's not like the ant king is gonna suddenly take over the whole world, i'm probably expecting and absence of all ant chapters after this arc to focus more on other characters while the ant king plots in the meantime.

I mean come one, the ant king is a threat to all humans allies or enemies, they'll either get beaten individually by him or will have to face him as an allied front

How do I expect Gon and Killua to do it? By training. Netero didn't get his strength from being angry. He did it through years upon years of training. Anger can only take you so far. If you lack basic structure and how to implement the actions, you're doing nothing. You're actually retrogressing. Remember the incredibly bulky Super Saiyan from DBZ? It had all the power it needed to defeat Cell. The Ultra SS couldn't get the job done. The form lacked the essential basic: form. And you needed anger, just like every other SS form needed to be reached.

obviously they would'v lost then, look at gon now. you think any of other characters right now can face the ant king?? there are 3 or 4 characters who are potential threats to the ant king combat ability wise. Before I explain who I think could, I am going to explain first and foremost, I firmly believe that because Netero was much older that he did not do well against the King. If the fight were 50 years prior, when Netero was at his peak, he would have had no trouble. Netero might still have been incredibly strong, but nowhere near his peak caliber. With that, I believe there are many nen users out there who could have done well against Netero at his level at the end of his life, and there is someone out there that is just as strong, if not stronger, than Netero in his prime (Ging perhaps?).

So yes. I do expect someone from the Spiders to be able to take out the King. When I mean someone, I mean Chrollo. The others would not hold up. Chrollo is a very smart fighter and will only need to copy the King's nen abilities to put up an excellent fight. Chrollo was able to take on the two strongest members of the Zoldyck family, two not to scoff at. Zeno even admitted that if Chrollo had fought to kill rather than defend, there was a very good chance Chrollo would have came out victorious.

Hisoka as an individual? Possibly. Hisoka has a lot of natural blood lust. We've never seen Hisoka seriously fight, so it's a lot harder to gauge him. He considers himself stronger than Chrollo, and if he truly is, we have to take that into consideration. If both Hisoka and Chrollo? That would be more than enough.

Any one else? If Kurapika didn't have the Judgment Chain around his own heart for the Spiders, then he would have a good chance. However, because Togashi is smart, he didn't make Kurapika a broken character.

What about Ging? He is supposed to be one of the top ranked nen users in the world. Why can't it be him to come in and save the day? He might be reclusive, but he is still a Hunter, and he has respect for the environment and everything that it holds (he must be, considering he's an archeological savvy man). Anything that might potentially harm the surroundings he might be concerned over.

(Or how about the other so called strongest nen users? They were mentioned, weren't they? They might appear. We don't know.)

netero didnt went through any sort of that transformation here. can you imagine netero having an extreme emotion and suddenly unleashing some power he never thought he had, NO that is cause he mastered everything he could learn in all his years, but
gon and killua have more potential than netero and they are bound to surpass him in the future
You just contradicted everything you stood for. You said extreme emotion will make someone strong and training will not. You just admitted that Netero did everything by training.

Want to know why Gon and Killua will be just as strong, and with very good possibility stronger, than Netero down the line? Because they're young and are prodigies. They do not need this so called "rage" to obtain "great" power. They have all the time in the world to train and become absolutely powerful.

now kurapica on the other hand is a very interesting character, he's grown extremely strong and I can almost imagine him fighting him with big players if given a chance
His strongest techniques are for Spiders only. Anything else would result in his death. He is selfish and full of revenge. He will not screw up his opportunity for retribution.

as i said before the emo powerup doesnt suit killua but fits perfectly in gon and in the future they'll have to be made stronger.
That's an empty argument. Imagine if Gon were killed. How would Killua react? Gon is Killua's only true friend. You take him away, Killua will go into a rage. There is absolutely no doubt about that.

It is not like Killua has not had fits of anger. Remember how he killed those two examinees after getting steamed about not getting the ball from Netero?

their individual increase in strength coupled with their teamwork will eventually take down the ant king, I mean who other will take the king down some even more powerful villain or another hyped character, when the king is already at a diff lvl than all other hunterxhunter characters
What the series doesn't need is more characters. Togashi has already introduced many and really does not need anymore in the roster. There are plenty of introduced characters that could stand a great chance on an individual level, but straight up saying two boys who have barely been studying Nen for more than likely a year's time is not going to be the correct one, especially if one is going to fight in a fit of rage. That would be the most counterproductive event ever to have one level headed person fight and one person blinded by rage to fight. You cannot fight properly and look out for each other that way. It won't work.

frankly spiders and hisoka are fodder in front of netero let alone the ant king with his new upgrades.
A good portions of the Spiders? Yes. There are probably two Spiders, that are not Chrollo or Hisoka, that could do well against the present day Netero. Would they win? Possibly not. Netero's wisdom would allow his victory. Again, 50 years ago, that would be an utmost different story.

Gon has fallen into plenty other cliches though. Can't count how many times the guy was supposed to be out of every ounce of aura he had and suddenly he finds new-found power within himself.

..... nobody would wait 100 years for gon to grow a goatie and withered skin to fight the ant king. when ever has the protagonist grown old just to reach a new level of power, never. netero isnt like gon just like killua isn't gon, they'll get their powerups differently and yea training isnt simply gonna cut it unless we see an old gon fighting the king when humans have already been taken over in the meantime by him

Before I explain who I think could, I am going to explain first and foremost, I firmly believe that because Netero was much older that he did not do well against the King. chrollo isnt on the level of netero lol the only other fighter apart from the king which dialogue wise seemed to be able to beat netero is grand grand father of killua, who's only been shown once

and hisoka and chrollo are inferior to netero let alone the ant king, atmost they are another stepping stone for gon, killua and kurapica's further development, lol even kurapica practically handicapped chrollo imagine what other characters can do who are muhc more smarter than him

and ging doesnt seem like a fighting nen user anyway, he's not been shown also. as far as the manga has shown, netero was the top of the class in combat ability wise and now showing anyone who'll exceeed his standards will be silly

You just contradicted everything you stood for. You said extreme emotion will make someone strong and training will not. You just admitted that Netero did everything by training.

yess of course netero did it with training lol I already admitted that he's freakin old and has had time to master everything he's learned, seeing him get a random powerup through emo means would be silly thats why it didnt happen

whereas gon and killua won't grow, the manga will not have 100 year timeskip, just so we can skip with their training to fight the ant king. they can't simply train for a few months and come out to fight him, obviously they'll need a random powerup in the middle of the fight and what else but the emo way

His strongest techniques are for Spiders only. Anything else would result in his death. He is selfish and full of revenge. He will not screw up his opportunity for retribution.
oh yea forgot about that, guess that disadvantage takes him out of the picture, thought what will happen after he's had his revenge, will he be able to use powers on anyone then like he does on the spiders

That's an empty argument. Imagine if Gon were killed. How would Killua react? Gon is Killua's only true friend. You take him away, Killua will go into a rage. There is absolutely no doubt about that.

It is not like Killua has not had fits of anger. Remember how he killed those two examinees after getting steamed about not getting the ball from Netero?
idk, killua seems more like a calculating fighter to me, who'll only get hampered by rage while gon seems more like "power leecher from protecting friends" type of guy
killua for some reason still seems stronger to me than gon lol, with all his speed thing going on

What the series doesn't need is more characters. Togashi has already introduced many and really does not need anymore in the roster. those two boys will plotwise eventually face the ant king whos a major antagonist whether we want to or not. no other character so far has shown the strength, or battle tactics at the king's level

killua doesnt need to take care of gon, if anything gon needs to be let go in these situations, he's a smart nen user, angry just brings out the cool factor with random powerups

If Gon suddenly becomes powerful enough to battle Pitou on even ground, then that only means one thing; the serialization nears its end.

Re: Hunter x Hunter by Togashi Yoshihiro

no way, your implying gon and killua will never be able to beat ant king, which is simply not true, in the end the king will be beaten by these two only, no matter how strong the king may get. i'm not sure how the pitou fight will turn out but if there's anyone now who is a potential threat or competitor to the king then it's gon, killua, grandpa assassin. gon and killua are obviously gonna overtake other nen users in the future

also your underestimating the the huge powerup's these emotional moments can bring to characters, these situations are often the first steps to attaining much higher powers for any hero or villain characters.

the king as already been decided as evil now with all the human domination crap he's pulling, it's major time to get these char some much needed upgrades now
Although I think we will probably not come into agreement about this but I'll still state my opinion:

Gon and Killua will never beat the King period. It does not matter through what means they attain new powers - be it hatred, anger or trainings, or you can even fuse them two together like DBZ - they still won't stand a chance. Unless Togashi really, really wants to trash HxH, Gon and Killua will never beat the King period.

You can bring Ging, Killua's dad, grandpa, and great grandpa plus the entire Spiders showing up at the same time fighting the King, yeah maybe they stand a chance, but it would only ruin the entire series. Matter of fact, I LOVED how Killua's dad showed up, kicked some ass, then left. I don't know how to describe it, it's just badass. If he stayed with the grandpa, it'd make sense, but it wouldn't be badass.

I firmly believe that the only way to end this arc is through some hardcore plot twists that involves the King and Komugi. Somebody mentioned before that the King may retire and play chess with Komugi for the rest of his life; or that the King going through some kind of gene mutation and die early; or that he dies early because he was born too early...etc. - I'd rather take any of these ending than having someone or some team stronger to take down the King.

Also, you mentioned the King is the ultimate evil but he's not. At least before the bomb he expressed that the correct way of using his power is to create "a world that is so equal that the word equality wouldn't even exist" (though I liked the Chinese translation better: "A world that's isn't absolutely equal, but to the very least, without unreasonable differences")

After the bomb he did deem the human race to be the step-stone to ultimate evolution of his (or more precisely, the ant's) kind, but that's because he lost his memory of his encounter with Komugi, I think he'll have a second opinion if he remembers her.

Come to think about it, I can't remember any major character in HxH being absolutely evil, maybe only the Bomber from Greed Island? But the Royal Guards, King, Spiders..they all have their purposes and reasons for the stuff they do, they're not true villains that need to be killed like Cell or Freeza from DBZ or Madara from Naruto, hey, judging from this awesome chapter, maybe Gon is the final antagonist?

All in all, I don't know what will happen next, but I sure have already eliminated the possibility of anybody or combination of anybody beating the King. Also I think Kaito's death will in some way lead Gon to his final journey to Ging.

yes we'r not in agreement

I think selecting human species for ant evolution and reducing their numbers to a very specific limited number from a majority to minority species pretty much deemed the ant king evil including his generals, especially the little butterfly one(he's devious). whats so surprising is that the mangaka has used crafty dialogues to disguise how actual evil the ant king's thoughts are, all this talk about creating equal place ultimately leads to the extinction of humans or their endangerment

And yes king will be beaten by gon and killua, otherwise it doesnt make sense to introduce such a strong antagonist character and then writing him off in seclusion. It's like saying naruto willl never beat madara, ichigo will never beat aizen, luffy will never beat any marine general, which all will happen in time.

we definitely wont be seeing any other antagonist character with as much combat ability as the ant king, nor will we ever see him being beaten by hisoka, or chrollo or other unknown nen users. its a freaskin shounen manga, ant king is plot-directed to be beaten by our heroes, by whatever means the mangaka thinks will be necessary

Character development is being rushed. Take note their progress in learning nen, it isn't as fast as this. Even Gon's Jajanken is put aside.

Re: Hunter x Hunter by Togashi Yoshihiro

You know what I like about Togashi? He hardly does, "Emotional time = extreme badass where anything and everything can be destroyed." He tries to steer clear of those situations. In Yu Yu Hakusho, especially in the beginning, Togashi had Yusuke win by sheer dumb luck many a time. Sure, when someone feels strongly about something, it makes them more determined, but it also makes them fight stupidly. Their only intent is to focus all their power to destroy, and it leaves them open. Think of it like baseball. You really want that home run so bad. You're up at the plate and you swing with all of your might! Chances are, you will strike out and look like a loser in the process.
How is dumb luck better than berserk mode giving a power up? I'm with Pavitre on that. King can be and probably will be defeated by Gon, Killua and the rest of the current team. I would guess that he isn't the strongest guy out there, I mean he was almost wiped out by a miniature bomb, imagine what would have happened if Netero had a bomb twice as powerful. Probably members of Ryodan could wipe him out, the same goes for Zoldyck family. Hisoka and Gon's father are also possible super-powered characters. If the King was such a threat than they would already act. Netero was far from being in top shape, he was an old man and I'm sure he would have defeated King without resorting to suicide attack if he was in his prime.
It wouldn't make sense that King would be the strongest opponent unless Togashi was planning to end series with that arc (which is doubtful since so many threads are unresolved).

I think you are forgetting something. You know, the Queen had a second son who is currently being raised by the first human-ant. I believe that he will be the key to the defeat of the King.

THIS

People judge the Meryem's strength based on the fact that he beat Netero, but in actuality Netero even mentions that he only has about a 10th or so of the power(someone wanna look up the exact number? cant remember) he had in his prime.Meryem is a beast, but he is not the strongest character the series will ever see, nor will he be a final antagonist. Hes merely a stepping stone.

Whoa bud. I never once said that it was a better solution. I provided an example. Nonetheless, both ways suck. They're both cop outs and a lazy solution.

Finally! People that agree with me!

It wouldn't make sense that King would be the strongest opponent unless Togashi was planning to end series with that arc (which is doubtful since so many threads are unresolved).
And agrees with this, too!

Re: Hunter x Hunter by Togashi Yoshihiro

Character development is being rushed. Take note their progress in learning nen, it isn't as fast as this. Even Gon's Jajanken is put aside.
it not going to be the end of HXH. Remember that ant Jairo (chapter 204) he strong enough to resist the queen control so giving time he might be more powerful than the king. It even said that Jairo and Gon will eventually meet. Just re-read the chapter again if you forgot.

Re: Hunter x Hunter by Togashi Yoshihiro

=_= seriously

are you guys saying that manga is about to end? there are way too many fricken loose ends to just end the manga with this arc. I dont feel Togashi plans on ending it with this arc when there still Ging,The Ryodan,Hisoka and Kilua's Family and the ones who lead the Hunter Association (There are people trying to replace Netero as president!! even when he was still alive .)

As someone else said There are other Nen users out there that can be fearsomely strong enough to deal with the Chimera Ant crisis (seeing HxH as been pretty much balanced so far i can see someone else dealing with problem if it isnt resolved in itself (meruem can easily become good just remembering stuff ) , i dont see this as the end of the manga at all , it may be the stepping stone or prelude to the end but far from it.

HOLY. FUCKING. SHIT!!!

Gon is going crazy for sure. I don't know how much of Pitou there will be left when Killua gets there... Jesus christ Gon looks more bad-ass and malicious than Netero in his final moments... :D

As for if the manga will end... The only thing that might even lead to those thoughts are how many times this series has been on hiatus. If you've read Yu Yu Hakushu the final series of tournament battles were just abruptly cut off and they went to the epilogue almost immediately.

Story-wise, I think we're only at about 50-66% of the manga. There's no way Gin can be found within the next 10-20 chapters without the ending going anticlimatic. We should see the end in about 100 chapters I guess.

YYH didn't have this many open threads. I don't remember if it even had any open in the end. There might have been a few, but whatever.

HxH has too many. There is no way that the series will end in 100 chapters. That would be rushed too much. Kurapika still has his entire sub-storyline to go through. Gon still needs to find daddy, and Hisoka needs to "pick" Gon and Killua when they're ripe.
