Well there was me thinking we were talking about "decisive" matches not warm up tournaments. :p
Well I just said that because I'm used to see them as a loser team, but from a strictly futbolistical standpoint, they're clearly on a different level than the rest of the teams. Even though they have no fullbacks...

Very nice opening ceremony and seriously, I hope Di Maria will get a lot of playtime in Argentina and that he can finally shine...

Oh, and for the first day, I'd say:
South Africa 1-1 Mexico
Uruguay 1-1 France

My guess is that it'll be the group with the most draws >.>
holy spirits batman!!! you found new talent in psychic? because i refuse to believe that you based you prediction on research or statistic records etc

i was rooting for the Mexican btw.

This France vs Uruguay match has a very lenient ref for European standards, and it made the match pretty interesting so far.

Yes, a draw.
And nobody else is happy for that.
We.should.have.won *facepalm* At least in the first half of the game was quite possible

Argentina vs Nigeria, Usa vs England, my god there are going to be a bunch of awesome games tomorrow! Not really predictable either since USA can surprise and I have no idea of Argentina's discipline...

I do too. But I'm rooting for RSA and Holland. When RSA did their first goal I almost trashed the glass table :d

If it's the WC, then it's okay to go nuts!!!!!

That's a quite likely prediction looking at the papers.

1 - 0 South Korea
3 - 0 Argentina
2 - 1 England

Looking at today's results I'm not that sure of my prediction anymore...

I tried to be logical, thinking that Mexico would be the better team but S-Af was playing at home and well motivated, so I expected the match to go exactly how it went >.>; And even if I got the score wrong, I still predicted the second draw \o/ guess I'm bound not to get anything else right for the rest of the tournament :oh

but yeah, it'll be tough getting out of this group, with the south-africans motivated as they seem to be, it seems pretty much everyone is at about the same level... I guess I'll bet on south africa and france qualifying for the next round.

Tomorrow...
South Korea 0-0 Greece
Argentina 3-1 Nigeria
England 2-0 USA

I'm still expecting to be pleasantly surprised by the american team, though. I think they have a good chance to come out second of their group.

WTH was France against Uruguay - was that a game between two teams playing the most boring game ever. France doesn't have a decent attack play. There was no striker in the box. They are constantly shooting from outside the box and they always end up 3-4 meters aside :rofl

and damn, I am really annoyed by that buzzing sound. It takes away the sound of the emotions from the public

Strikers? French strikers aren't in the box, koen, they're in the street, doing nothing but asking for more money and less working hours. If you put it that way, we definitely have the best strikers in the world :oh

I usually turn off my brain when watching a football match (it gets in the way), but that buzzing sound truly made it seem like my brain was melting away through my ears. And it seems even worse for the people on the field, so maybe it's not surprising they were playing so poorly. I honestly don't see the point of those things, and wish they'd ban them already because I'm not sure i'll be able to stand watching matches with the sound on at this rate -_-;

Use the mute button, it works wonders >.>;. But i do have a soft spot for the vuvuzelas's, at least they make more sense then our commentators. -_-;

yeah, those vuvuzelas are really killing the the mood.
just sing some song, the way it should be (though National anthem is really not fitting, too).. or horn some honk, but not making those buzzing sound, i thought there were gigantic flies at my room

heh, i thought our commentators (Indonesian) are the only annoying ones... hahaha, and how they analyse the match during the breaks are even worse.

i guess south american commentators are the best... they can shout "goal" for about 7 hours, maybe???

Made 100$ on the first day, not a bad profit. I have a feeling this will be a good WC...

Tomorrow's matches:

Korea 0 - 0 Greece
Argentina 2 - 0 Nigeria
USA 2 - 1 England

USA pays 7 to 1, England is overrated luckily for me.

And Marca has made an awesome calendar here: http://www.marca.com/deporte/futbol/mundial/sudafrica-2010/calendario-english.html

Really useful to keep track of the teams and matches~
Thanks Xophien for that link. That’s a really awesome WC calendar; the best I’ve seen for ’10. :amuse

indeed spain seems ready for it , they have many good players the deffence is good , i wonder if villa will participate .
Best thing about Spain's squad = The midfield combination of Xavi & Ineista...like Mr. Lagoon already stated. haha. Can't wait to see their upcoming group matches.

Very nice opening ceremony and seriously, I hope Di Maria will get a lot of playtime in Argentina and that he can finally shine...
I agree. That was one of the best WC opening ceremonies in a long time imo. I really enjoyed watching it.

The first game was ok. I thought there was a lot of messy play though. It wasn’t exciting nor entertaining for the most part but that slightly changed once Tshabalala scored; and what a brilliant goal that was! Just brilliant. I loved the dancing celebration too! Tbh I expected more from Mexico. It would’ve been great for S. Africa if they held on to that one goal lead but it wasn’t meant to be…

Second game was….

Why the hell is Henry YET AGAIN starting on the bench for France? I personally would’ve put Henry up front with Anelka. Govou was all over the place; I heard the commentator say that he hasn’t played for France for two years and all of a sudden his straight back in the first team already? Wtf. What a sweet cross and set up Ribery created for Govou in the first half…..and he fk’d up lol. Oh well. Forlan played well for Uruguay, it’s ashame he didn’t score in the first 10 mins when he had a perfect shot on goal.

tomorrow, England vs USA.. i'm rooting for England, but i think USA will put up a good fight
usa is indeed not a match to england but i'll sure enjoy the game .
Italy drew with USA back in ’06. Gawd, I remember watching that game, the ref was certainly paid very well indeed to keep the Italians quiet for 90-93 mins. England SHOULD win the game tomorrow…today against the USA. I’m hoping Green or Hart will get the number 1 jersey; both of them deserve it more than D. James imo.

I say…2-1 to England.

The one game I’m really looking forward to is was the Argentina Vs. Nigeria match…but I’ll be at work. :scry I think Argentina will win 3-1. As for the other game between S. Korea & Greece….I don’t really care but it would be great if Korea win. 1-0 Go Park! :XD

I do too. But I'm rooting for RSA and Holland. When RSA did their first goal I almost trashed the glass table :d

If it's the WC, then it's okay to go nuts!!!!!
Yessir.

I have nothing against Henry starting on the bench, if you consider the poor season he's just had with the Barça, scoring only four times in 32 appearances. Despite what he's brought to the team, and how much I'm thankful to the guy, I'll admit that he's out of shape, so having him starting on the bench is not much of a surprise. Well, except when among the players starting there's Anelka (who seems totally out of place as a lone striker) and Govou (Domenech's mascot, who scored TWICE in thirty matches this year). Then again, we're lacking an actual striker, one that'd stay in the box and piss off the opponent's defenders...

I'm guessing Domenech just doesn't care, seeing how he won't be the manager of the team anymore after this tournament and since he hardly can be hated more than he already is, he seems to do what he wants with the players he likes instead of going for players who actually are in shape. I personally stopped trying to understand, since I'm not expecting anything from our team in this tournament (yet I'm still cheering for them, silly me), I say let the guy do what he wants and let's forget what happened altogether afterwards :shakefist

Benzema (why did you leave him in France? he should have at least taken a seat on the bench?), Cygnac... I don't say they are the best strikers but they must be able to do something that Anelka and Henry can't do at this moment. And gourcuff? I hear so much about him and I think this was one of the first matches I saw him playing, he was really awful just like ribéry was...

damn, and I am rooting for England. They are going to be WC's surprise. I consider them as an outsider. I give them a lot of chances for winning the WC but most people won't

and in the end, koenosaki always wins :p
