Lazy ending? A manly ending, instead of dragging it Inoue ended just at right time. At it's high point, as drama reached it's peak. It also stayed realistic, not like in real life someone who just started basket will become japanese champion.
well what im saying here, is that it's kinda easy to end it at this point. If ippo ended after the lost against Date, u would say it's a drama manly ending. i said it's lazy cuz everybody can do that. when i was reading Slam dunk, i was hoping that the author will show us the ascension of the protagonist little by little in the world of basket, even thought he lost.
Every author can turn their manga into drama at the end by making the man char die or loose, it's kinda the easier and safer road than making the man char success while still being realistic.

Bit if he had continued that would end happening :p
And i don't really think that would be that strange. There is some people that really possess an inapt talent, and Sakuragi "constitution" was even a plus, cuz there aren't really that many Japanese people with such body. And he also trained a lot so why not :p

To try a portuguese pun '-'
Pun ? Eu nuca percebi muito bem o que isso significa. E há algumas mangas que utilizam esse termo. É o mesmo que um trocadilho certo ? Mas no contexto que disseste isso nao faz muito sentido :oh

i will take the example of One piece. it would be easier for Oda to end one piece now by making luffy die. if he do that, all reader will say it's a masterpiece, it's one hell of a drama manly ending. But it's harder to continue to luffy ascension into the pirate king and maintaining the quality with that.
i do believe one of the reason that Code geass is high rated is the ending.

I agree Ippo has been great in keeping up the level of interest. Inoue might have failed, it is not easy to make story that essentially goes in cycles (Well not really, but you undestand, fight, train, fight, so on). I also think the tone of the stories is just different. Slam Dunk was meant to end, Ippo not so. I also got the feeling, that Inoue didn't want to do it anymore. He was getting annoyed how published as shonen limited his possibilities. Later in REAL he got to move more to the personal level of drama that can come with sports. He got to do something he liked to do. He didn't want to make Slam Dunk anymore, so he quit, ending the story how he wanted it to end. That is manly.
