Nothing relevant, which is why I think they made not a wrong choice. Same with Hanzo.

Just because she's a minor character it doesn't mean she's expandable (and by that I mean that it won't affect the story in a bad way). Minor characters are very important to the story making it more diverse and often letting it escape schematics. For example ASOIF would be much worse without Dolorous Edd or Firefly without Badger or Saffron. They are the ones that make a chapter/episode interesting one and triggering different responses from characters we seem to already know. In the case of Hunter x Hunter it worse than just not having enough diversity. By cutting many scenes forcefully the flow of the story suffers and it becomes cheaper, more casual. Tests "kill that and that" are quite common in shounens but tests such as "run a marathon" or "make sushi" aren't.

So by cutting episode short viewers were robbed from getting to know better Hanzo, Hisoka (only in anime but a scene with him was a great idea), Kurapica and others. Some interesting info about Hunter's exam and Hunters (Menchi included) was omitted making the world of HxH smaller than it is. That's not all however but I will stop at that since I don't want to rant too much.

Plus, since Togashi has still 5-6 arcs in mind they might still become important characters.

I think the sushi exam is kind of subtle there. Most people would just wonder 'what's so hard about making sushi?' and miss the point (sure wasn't obvious to me the first time). If you're trying to commercialize the product, it's probably something you can do without. Togashi's humor doesn't seem to be something most people appreciate/understand. I don't think it's a good idea, but I can understand why it's done.

I really like the sushi scene because in most shonen you have people who are impossibly deductive to the point where they're basically omniscient and defy what logical deduction can do (reborn Meryem is guilty of this too but at least he's supposed to be nearly omniscient), and yet in the sushi exam you have Kurapika, who is certainly the role model for logic and deduction coming up with the exact wrong conclusion as Leorio did.

Don't forget they also took out how Gon and Kaito initially met. They went all-out making this one too kid-friendly.

I wasn't referring to Menchi in particular with my last phrase instead about the fact that they completly left out the information about Hunters in general. I can't see any reasonable reason why they didn't mention that piece of information whereas they added the updraft filler, which wasn't even in the manga to begin with.

Is this Phantrom the databook you refer in How Nen Works thread?

There's like 7 data source books that are each kind of short (40-50 page). This one seems to be a combination of the earlier stuff (but not all of them) and some random tidbits. I don't see stuff like Meryem's 'off the scale' power bar in there. The whole thing strikes me more like a big OP/Naruto 'generic info' book that's designed to sell to the new fan as opposed to some of the later ones that seems to have stuff only the hardcore would be interested (e.g. where Netero and the Royals stand on the power hexagon).

If you're in a bookstore, this new sourcebook would probably be next to where HXH is. The original short source books would be stuff you'd find a small corner in the back of the store.

Saw some random tidbits from way back in August translated, no idea if it's real or not, would be hard to verify either way but sounds about right:

Togashi originally planned to finish HXH in 30 volumes and abandon the Jirao arc, but he recently rediscovered his will to continue and is now in great shape.

The next arc (i.e. election + Alluka) will be horror based. It will talk about the aura power of the dead and subconscious aura powers.

The Vice Chairman will make his appearance. Gin will show up. Spiders and Z family will show up. Killua will return home. Girao won't appear yet.

The next arc will be the Jirao arc.

After that will be the ending.

All this is subject to change depending on Togashi feels like.

So, Jairo will be the next and then there's the final one? Yup, it seems real, but could be predicted by anyone really (Jairo still hasn't shown up and it's clear he will at some point). Also, Alluka is indeed related to horror movies, but I cannot see yet how the power of the dead would come up in this arc.

Don't forget the other walking dead man - Kaito. We still don't know what happened to his body. Togashi might come back to this once Gon has recovered and the election has ended. There is still a possibility regarding the horror theme in this arc.

Yeah, that's why I said it's pretty much impossible to verify because anyone could've just predicted this stuff and faked it, but it seems to paint a reasonable picture of what to expect.

I think most of the Zs are assigned based on Hisoka's personality test.

If this is true, then I suppose his ability was to make his Nen explosive, back at Chloro's fight. It woudl really be a very badass ability, for him who knows how to survive his own Nen, of course.

Zeno always struck me as Emission, as it did with Uriel. Since this one you're doubtful, I suppose you might really be mistaken. How would he toss those dragons if he wasn't emission?

Also, I've always thought all Zoldyck sons would have a different Nen. I suppose Killua and his father have a lot in common and none of their sons are like him also in the Nen department. I suppose their mother might be Manipulation as well...

I always thought Zeno was Emission but I think recently I saw the book listing him as Transform. Since it doesn't seem to match his ability that's why I'm not sure.

It's not like you absolutely cannot use schools two away from your natural type. Kuroro is 3 away from Reinforcement and his arm wrestling ranking is only 7th in the Spiders. It's not like it takes a lot to hurt him physically if you can hit him.

Some funny tidbits from the same book.

"Compared to Hisoka, Kuroro can only be described as a toy"

"Kuroro's fighting techniques is the strongest in the world."

"The Spiders are considered difficult opponents for the average Hunter" (yeah, like the guys Hisoka rates a 10).

I don't actually pay too much attention to these sourcebook since I really don't think Togashi wrote most of that. But I assume the school types are accurate unless Togashi totally doesn't care about these things. Likewise the power hexagons, while not necessarily definitive, I'd assume Togashi at least looked at it and say that looks okay.

LOL to the USA reference. I like Leorio, but I doubt someone like him is even a good candidate with so little experience on his head.

And lol, seems that all purple haired guys are Transform then. I can't imagine then how skillful Zeno is to make his technique look like it was a completely different Hatsu.
