All right, let me try this:

Name: Knives

Type: materialization

1. Hands of the King

Condition 1: Use the knife to successfully operate on a patient with a certain percentage of chance of dying.

Ability 1: to kill an opponent with the same percentage of chance of living.

Note 1: the condition and the ability are interchangable.

Note 2: The name is an obvious reference to Lord of the Rings..."the hands of the King are the hands of a healer".

Here I have to operate on patients with the materialised knives successfully, then use that knife to kill opponents. The higher the risk in the operation, the more killing chance the knife gains when its used for murder. for example, if i do an operation where the patient had 90% chance of dying...and can do it successfully, then i can use the knife from that operation to kill an opponent in a situation where he had 90% chance of living.

In reverse, if i can kill an opponent with a knife, the knife gains the percentage of chance that the enemy had of living and can be used to save a patient(or myself) when he's that percentage of chance of dying. For example, if i use a knife to kill an enemy who had 10% chance of living, then i can use the knife later to save a patient who has 10% chance of dying.

A knife can be used offensively multiple times upto the point when percentage gained by its protective gain is completely used up...for example a knife which save a patient with 90% chance of dying can be used three times to kill opponents each of whom has 30% chance of living. Vice Versa for saving patients with a knife that has been used to kill.

If the use of the knife fails then the percentage deducts from what percentage was accumulated on it previously.

For example, if i operate on a pt with 90% chance of living and fail, then 10% is deduced from what the knife had gained previously. It can even become a score in negatives. Similarly if i fail in an operation where pt has 10% chance of dying, then 90% is deduced from previous score. This rule enhances the balance, as otherwise the user will be tempted to all the easy operations to slowly but safely gather scores. The rule is applicable in opposite direction just like the previous ones too.

2. Flashes

Condition 2: All the knives will lose all the percentage

Abilty 2: will allow me to travel with my nen attached to the knives.

If i give up the percentages accumulated on all the knives both protectively and offensively, i temporary gain the ability to throw a knife in any direction and my body will attach itself to the knife through nen and travel at the same pace of throwing towards the same point. The number of knives i can use and the time period i can travel this way depends on the summation of the percentages in all knives at the time of giving up the percentages.

Note: the name is another obvious tribute to namikaze minato :)

3. Knife of Judas

Condition 3: Betray and kill close persons

Ability 3: Gains the ability to kill opponents

The closer and dearer the killed and betrayed persons are, the stronger opponents it can kill.

So if a knife is used to kill a person whom i originally intended to betray it would not gain any ability. But if i am to sacrifice a truly beloved person (and i can't tell it to them beforehand cause i need to 'betray' them), then it gains a killing ability. The more beloved the person is, the more chance the knife has of finishing of the opponent.

Example: a knife which the user used to kill his son might become the closest to an un-defendable knife when thrown at an enemy.

Isn't a bit too much? I mean, I like the three effects but I think it's too hax.

And it strikes me more as Manipulation rather Materialization, but that's me. I don't know, a person with that effects must be a certain way, trying to determine and judge the life and death from others is not a person who corresponds with Materialization.

Haha honestly speaking, i also thought it might have been a little too much.

Of all the weapons knife/dagger carries with itself a peculiar assortment of symbolism, its at the same time a weapon of a skillful hunter/military bravery/courage, a weapon of a coward/suicide and a weapon of a betrayer/of deception and a symbole of justice.

I am particularly fond of the first ability since i'm a medical student and a fan of lotr. I think its where the knife acts like justice...hand of king giving both the death and the healing to appropriate persons....the ceremonial dagger symbolizes justice. It probably also incorporates the idea of bravery and skillful fighting since the knives have to be used very precisely

The second effect is rather a cowardly effect, a way to escape that's all. .. Of the three skills i think one and two are pretty much related, and while no2 is the one i like the least...it can be the most useful one in tough situations. Its a humiliating tech to use...cause it abandons everything just to run away, but sometimes it can be necessary. I thought the total loss of the ability to fight, the humiliation and to lose all of the advantages gained over a long period of time is a fair exchange for an escape.

If the second effect is of a coward, then the third is of the betrayer . However i must say i find Judas fascinating...betraying the one you love the most, that's intriguing. And perhaps sacrificing your loved one is sort of a bravery too. Also the knife of Judas is pretty much similar to the spear of destiny...the spear with which Jesus was killed, and is said to possess incredible powers in many lores. I like this effect almost as much as the first one, but i have to concede that its not that well linked with the first two.

About these effects being manipulation type...i must confess that i never really understood that division too well. I personally think no1 and no3 can be done by materialization, not so sure about the 2nd one.

About suiting the characteristics, once again its hard to be sure. Kurpika didn't actually strike me as particularly nervous. I thought he was more of a mixture of bits of other categories. So i thought the nervousness is probably due to the odd mixture, not knowing what to give preference to all the time. A knife user, with so many clashing motifs...seemed to fall under same category(somehow the knife using character from Berserk stuck in my head, who was a jack of many trades).I personally think myself to be someone like that....though one quiz i once took told me i'm an enforcer. I'm still not convinced with that quiz :)

I'll only comment in the last part so I gave some room to other to discuss your technique:

Nen is based on personality. Personality is complex, so Nen is complex. We can't standardize personalities as simple as Hisoka did because not everyone is just ONE of the words. Still, those are hints. How people usually reacts, the strategies they prefer.

So instead of what your technique needs to work, it's as simple as how the technique is originated. You want to judge with your knifes, you give them a metaphorical deepness that some people may find unrelated. Saving someone life by translating someone death is to play the judge. That's for me is a clear sign of Manipulation.

Let me put this like this, I understand Hatsu as roles...
Intensification > The Ruler (Impose)
Materialization> The Counselor (Reflex)
Emission > The Wise Man (Feels)
Manipulation > The Judge (Think)
Transformation > The Revolutionary (Wants)
Specialization > The Hermit (Wish)

Why I don't like Hisoka test personality? Because it uses words that are too much dependent on the situation. We saw Kastro nervous, we saw analytic Gon moving in its own pace, we saw charismatic people all over the world without being specialization.

Love the cure abilities - simple effective, and you could get creative with it in and out of battle.

For the knife, the first and third abilities, I think, are definitely possible with materialization (you'd be using manipulation too as you are manipulating probability like Risky Dice and Alluka's ability). The third one has a fairly strong condition, and the first one is pretty strong too, especially if you have to perform surgery with a large hunting knife or something.

The second ability is the only one I'm not too sure about. Seems like a very strong teleportation power without any real sacrifice (giving up your percentages does not seem to be much).

@ashher:
Hands of the King: how much do you need to damage someone for the knife's effect to kick in? For example, say you've operated on someone successfully who had a 90% chance of dying, so your knives have a 90% chance of killing. How bad of a wound do need to inflict on someone for them to have a 90% chance of being killed? Would you just have to nick them, or would you have to full-on stab them up?

If you just have to cause a nick then this seems too strong... I mean say your knives have 10% chance of killing, and you nick someone. If it's a strong enough opponent, a nick wouldn't mean diddly. But your technique bypasses the opponent's strength and not only incapacitates them but has a high chance (1/10 it pretty damn high for an insta-kill) of outright killing them. That to me is too strong for the conditions.

But, if you have to cause more damage, then it may be okay. Just depends how much damage is needed. :)

Also, if the knives are used the other way round, and you kill someone with a 90% chance of living, what exactly does a "chance of living" mean? Chance of them surviving the stab?

Flashes: It's not just the name that's a tribute, the whole damn effect is Minato's. :P I think this technique is fine provided you can't use it when you have 0% stored in your knives.

I don't see it as a cowardly technique at all though. There's no shame in strategic retreat, and you could be using it to rush to someone's aid, or to charge towards someone anyway.

Knife of Judas: All I'll say about this is that, in my opinion, you couldn't betray and kill a truly beloved one. If you betray them then you obviously didn't love them in the first place.

Finally, what do the knives look like? How big are they? Like Hunter2323 says, doing surgery is pretty hard with a pair of Bowie knives. I'm imagining them as scalpels?

As to their type, I'd say that probability manipulation might be a reality-bending ability, in which case I'd say that's Specialisation if anything. I don't see this is a Manipulation ability at all since you're affecting the target directly, not commanding them (hope that makes sense. Too lazy to try and explain better. :P).

Flashes, since it is Teleportation, involves Emission (like the GI boxer's technique).

EDIT: Oops, should have said before, I like the basic idea behind this Hatsu. :)

Eyes Everywhere
Type: Emission & Conjuration
Effect: By covering one of their own eyes (condition), the user Conjures one eye on any surface within their field of vision. The vision of the covered eye is replaced with that of the Conjured eye (I'll call this Conjured Eye 'A' from now on).

By covering their other eye, they can Conjure a second eye on any surface within the field of vision of the first conjured eye. The vision of the second covered eye is replaced with that of the second Conjured eye ('B').

The user can close either A or B at any time, at which point that eye disappears, and can be Conjured on any other surface within the other eye's vision.

Restrictions: If the user uncovers either of their real eyes, the corresponding eye disappears.

Commentary: A basic surveillance technique for seeing over long distances, spying etc. The eyes can move where the user wishes by 'leap-frogging' one over the other. If this needs more explanation I'm happy to give it.

It involves both Conjuration and Emission, but I think it would be best for an Emission type to use it; since the Conjured items are very basic, I think it would be done with only 40% Conjuration efficiency, whilst Emission should be as high as possible, so they can cover as large a distance as possible.

I realize I never put my technique in proper format :P

Soul's Book
Materialization

Soul's Book allows me to materialize all kinds of things.
> To do this, I need to tell a story about it and someone has to hear it.
> If the story talks about some item with some special effect, additionally someone has to like the story told.
> That someone can be anyone, and works even if the person doesn't remember the story. The person who heard the story has a particular mark on it. If that person dies, the effects of that story are deleted.
> The effect becomes stronger and longer the more I tell that particular story.
> The objects with a special effect that were conjured have the story written in it, only being able to see it with Gyo. If someone is able to read the whole story of the object, it can decide if the effects stays or not.
> The objects conjured doesn't need to stay with the conjurer and anyone is able to use it.
> The book must be materialized first in order to tell the story, but it doesn't need to be open for the object to stay.
> When the user dies, Soul's Book will try to find another host in order to keep gathering stories.

Example: I tell a story to a group of little girls about the Monkey King Staff that can expand miles away and they liked it a lot. The staff will work exactly like that then. In the staff the story will be written. If it's short, it will be easy to read in-battle. If it's long, it will be harder. So the effort put in the story is directly reflected in battle. That's also a way to limit the ability, since it's not handy for create new things IN battle since it's harder to make a powerful item and fulfill the conditions.

@Uriel: So you write a story, read it, and if it's liked, it conjures the subject of the story? Hmm, I like the idea, but isn't it a bit broken? First of all, I'd say that regardless of the length of story, it'd be nigh-on impossible to read it in the middle of battle.

But, that's by-the-by, since the ability could be abused in other ways; couldn't you just write a good story about some invincible super weapon, and boom, you have it? I think there needs to be more limitations as to what you can conjure.

Another question: where exactly is the story written? What you mean exactly by written in the object?

Another technique:
Name: Schadenfreude
Type: Enhancement
Summary: The ability activates when the user successfully strikes the target. With every successful strike upon the target after that, the power of that strike increases. The drawback is that as the attacks go on, the user loses themself in the moment, like they're drunk on power.

If the user misses an attack, the power of their strikes reset, and the user regains control of their consciousness.

Commentary: I was wondering if having every successful strike should double the damage of the previous one (so it basically works in exactly the same way as Fury Cutter from Pokémon), or would that be too strong?

It is not to be for battle, and that's why it enables to conjure an item previously to the battle. At first I wanted to use it as a pokeball, but that would be broken.
And no, since you can say a weapon is indestructible but that can never be true. Is the same as the sword that cuts everything in that matter. And in all good stories, there is always a way to overcome that power.

And yes, it's written with Nen Writing IN the surface of the object.

About your technique: I like this one more than the previous one. And it's not that broken, since you have first to hit it and that's not easy if the user has your same level.

So how would you know whether you can summon the object you describe in the book? How would you know it wouldn't be too powerful?

EDIT: Forgot to ask before, but how does the book seek a new master after you die? I really like this idea so I'd it to work.

Thanks for the feedback; that's kinda what I was thinking. You're unlikely to get a lot of hits in in a row in a nen battle.

When you say the previous technique, you mean Eyes Everywhere?

The objects once materialized stay materialized. They can't return in the book. So all the summons are just once. Then I just carry them or leave them. And since it also materialize beings with their own personalities (based on the story) it's hard to imagine someone that is too powerful.
Still, I don't plan to be a weakling anyway, so...

And the idea came from the chains of Kurapika. It was said that Nen sometimes grow stronger as one dies. My desire to collect stories is just too strong, so the book is meant to find someone to carry the duty.

I mean Cure. I love Curaga as much as the next FF guy, but I also think it's not an ability that covers much. "Able to cure" is as vague concept as "sword that cuts everything" because you have to determine WHAT cures SPECIFICALLY and what damages SPECIFICALLY and HOW it does it (By using what property of the aura, It's not about medical details)

Yeah, I understand the concept of nen growing stronger after death. What I was asking, though, is how the book goes about finding someone knew. Does it float around until it finds someone, just wait to be found, sprout legs and walk about or what?

Enhancement nen increases the natural abilities of an object.
I envelop the damaged cells surrounding a wound with enhancement nen.
The natural ability of damaged cells is to replicate themselves in order to close a wound.
Therefore, my Enhancement nen increases this ability, making wounds heal quicker.

So, to answer your question about what "property of the aura" is used to heal, I think the answer is the fact that the aura is Enhancement nen.

In the case of a broken bone, the different pieces of the bone has to be in right position for the natural healing processes to occur, but once that is done, I simple enhance the bone and let its increased healing take place. If I wasn't clear enough before, the technique only boosts the bodies natural functions; it can't regrow limbs or organs, nor cure diseases, but nothing the body wouldn't do on its own given enough time.

While I think this should satisfy anyone that Cure is a perfectly feasible technique within HxH (especially given its simplicity), I'll also add that Kurapika had a healing ability that fixed a broken bone in seconds, doing no more than wrapping a chain round the broken limb in question.

Moreover, if you want to start talking of how properties of aura give rise to Hatsu, then answer me this? What property of aura is it that allows Br Blythe to perform surgery? Or Crollo's book to steal abilities? Or Feitan to transform pain into aura? Or Shalnark to manipulate people? Or Hisoka to make his aura stretchy? Or Kunckle's to seal someone's nen? This list is endless - my point is not to be facetious, but that we shouldn't get hung up on "properties of one's nen".

I'm not sure if your argument is also against Cure: Enemy, but in case it is, I'll explain why this technique would work too;
http://www.mangareader.net/207-14056-17/hunter-x-hunter/chapter-47.html

1) Wing explains that "if a bad spirit attacks a man without defense, he can kill him with only his aura" and that "we repel the opposite aura with our own aura".
2) He also places his hand hand gently against the wall and send his nen through it and...

http://www.mangareader.net/207-14056-18/hunter-x-hunter/chapter-47.html

...shatters it. Note that he didn't punch the wall, he just placed his hand against it.

http://www.mangareader.net/207-14057-3/hunter-x-hunter/chapter-48.html

3) Here Wing explains he's going to send Gon and Killua his aura; Hatsu.

http://www.mangareader.net/207-14057-4/hunter-x-hunter/chapter-48.html

4) He then reassures them that he has no intention of doing them harm.

http://www.mangareader.net/207-14057-5/hunter-x-hunter/chapter-48.html

5) Wing explains that "If a person who isn't mature enough, or had bad intentions, was practicing this technique, they would die".

From points 4) and 5), and from what we've been told about personal feeling having a large part to play in the strength and quality of one's nen, we can infer that intention can be the difference between a technique doing harm or being harmless.

It would be my malicious intention that makes Cure: Enemy harm an enemy, and my beneficent intention that means Cure: Ally not only doesn't hurt them, but actually does them good.

Points 1) and 2) demonstrate that I don't have to punch or kick my opponent to do them harm, but grabbing a part of their body, or placing my hand on them is enough. Now of course, I'd be fighting people with nen, so naturally they're going to be able to use their own aura to repel mine. However, the point of this technique is that I have an alternative method to attacking someone besides physical strikes backed up with nen.
Cure: Enemy may be less damaging than a nen-infused punch or kick, since it is inherently less violent, but it provides me with a technique beyond punching and kicking that my opponent is less likely to be expecting.

I really like the book idea, and the nen after death passing the book on should be possible, but I am not sure how the book could find someone else (unless the materialized book has some personality). Also not sure if every item could be materialized, seems a bit much for one person, especially when compared with Greed Island (which has lots of people combining to create the items). If you could just create these on your own, it seems a bit broken.

A new ability I just came up with based on my love for ancient Egypt and archaeology. I'm not too sure if one person could do both of these or if they would need to be separated.

Nephthys’ Ankh and Anubis’ Sarcophagus
Nephtyhs is the god of night, among other things. The user would materialize an ankh/locket; if something of very personal value of a person is put inside the locket (body part, blood, cherished jewelry, etc) and then the person falls asleep with the ankh touching their skin, the user can enter that person’s dreams. In the dream world, reality is changeable according to a person’s will. This does not affect either person's real body in anyway, but the memories of the dream will be there; both the user and dreamer must be sleeping at the same time.

Anubis is (one of) the god(s) of the dead, and he looked after the spirits going to the afterlife. The user materializes a sarcophagus; if they fall asleep in the sarcophagus with an object of close connection to the deceased person, the user can meet that deceased person for exactly one hour (usable once a month)

@Hunter2323

I like Nephthys’ Ankh and don't see any problem with it. I'm not sure, but it might involve Specialisation, since entering another's dreams doesn't really fall into any other category, though I'm not sure. Specialisation or not, I think it would work. :)

Anubis’ Sarcophagus, though, I don't think would work, since in Hunter x Hunter, dead is dead. I don't think there's any way to contact the dead.

A Hatsu I thought up a while ago and rounded out this morning:

Name: Dragon's Roar
Type: Emission
Summary:
Condition: The user bellows out a loud roar.
Effect: As the user roars, a ball of destructive nen builds up a few inches in front of their mouth (think a Pokémon beam move). The stronger, louder, fiercer and longer the roar, the more nen is built up. When the roar ends, the built-up nen is released and fires in a straight line away from the user.

The user would also have a variation on this attack where, instead of firing in a single ball-shaped attack, the nen would spread out in a cone-shape; this would increase the area of effect, making it more likely to hit the intended target, but it would also reduce the attack's power.

The more practiced the user is, the stronger the nen they are able to build up, and thus, the more powerful the attack.

I think it would be cool if there existed a parasite-like ability that would have a mind of its own with one simple desire. For Uriel's book it would be to tell stories:
Let's say the first owner of the book was a man who loved telling stories so much that he would rather die than not tell another one, so he was constantly traveling in search of inspiration and new audience.
Then, after a few years he found an item that he had wrote about in his book, at first he though it was a coincidence but after finding several more such items he started to believe that his stories were memories from his previous life.
Obsessed with that thought the man abandoned his life as a storyteller and started searching for items from his stories, not long after he wandered into some ancient pyramid and mysteriously died.(THE END :D)
Then some random guy finds the book and suddenly feels an urge to tell stories...

So the book's ability would be to materialize items from your stories but only if you tell them to someone, they would appear randomly but the range would get smaller the stronger the user gets, and you will die if you don't tell at least one story a month.

Uriel, sorry for stealing your ability :|

Name: Hyper Cortex
Type: Enhancement
Effect: The user enhances their brain to increase its strength. This allows them to think very quickly and to a higher level than usual. Since the brain is such a complex organism, it would take a lot more nen to successfully enhance it than it would most objects of that size, so the user would either tire quickly, or not be able to use this technique for long.

Commentary: When I thought up this technique, I had in mind a calculating character who leads a group of other nen users. The user of this technique uses it to develop some wicked-awesome plan against their enemies, then while he rests (having tired himself out), he sends his minions off to carry out the plan.
There’s probably a certain part of the brain that would be best to enhance in order to develop plans, but I can’t be bothered to research what it would be. :P

Name: Man of Diamond
Type: Transmutation
Effect: The user transmutes the shape of their nen into various shapes (namely those of weapons), then transmutes its quality into that of diamond. The result is protrusions of aura with diamond-hardness.
Examples of what the user would would change the shape into include shields, various bladed and edged weapons, and anything else the user can think of (provided they have the skill to transmute it).

Ohhh! It spreads thousands of pages that will find someone fitting. The precise way to determine that is secret but it involves three stages: To find the book, to fight the book and to solve the book.

If the person knows Nen, then his own technique will be stored within the book. If it doesn't know Nen, the Book will grant it and will cancel every attempt of making a new technique. Because I'm a bitch.

Also not sure if every item could be materialized, seems a bit much for one person, especially when compared with Greed Island (which has lots of people combining to create the items). If you could just create these on your own, it seems a bit broken.
Doesn't need to have a personality. It has a task, and that can be done. Although the idea of the Book having a personality kinda allows me to make something similar to Kastro to reinforce the strength of the book: The book will pick what to materialize, giving randomly according to its judging.

And it's not that hard to materialize many items. We haven't seen yet Conjurer users with more experience, only seen by Kurotopi and She's able to materialize a HIGH amount of things and we have yet to know Her technique into fights.
Well, I got that. But then the right effect is to speed up the natural process I guess.
Excellent point. I'll give you then that you're right. For Enhancement users, that is. For the rest...I would enter in each case but I think it's pointless since the original debate was upon your technique.

I don't think you need such a harsh condition to use only once a month...But since world of HxH has never dealt with afterlife I don't know if that's even possible.

And for me it's Specialization.
Would it only work with sound? I mean, it's a need to have the mouth open and all?

It seems like you're opening too much for an attack that is easily avoidable.
Uriel, sorry for stealing your ability :|
No worries, I love how you made your own version of it and with your own background! Similar also of what I thought of my own persona and the rules I initially thought would be cool to pass it to another person.

It's incredible how Transformation is the most versatile Hatsu of all, actually. I love this technique :O

Ohhh! It spreads thousands of pages that will find someone fitting. The precise way to determine that is secret but it involves three stages: To find the book, to fight the book and to solve the book.
Oh cool, I like that idea. :)

I guess it would be like Jajanken - it has a build-up time, but Gon manages to make it work. The user of this technique would have to treat this one in the same way.

Glad you like it! Yep, I think Transmutation is, for close-combat fighting, the most versatile of the six types. Although besides Specialisation, it's the one I can think up techniques least easily. :P

Really like the diamond ability - wide variety of uses from hardness to sharpness.

The book idea is a bit clearer to me now, so it could probably work, but I think the Coltopi comparison is not a good one. He/She/It can materialize many items, but they are all copies of actual things that disappear within 24 hours with restrictions of not copying nen objects/abilities. From what I understand, the book could permanently materialize an unlimited amount of objects, and these objects may have special abilities. It feels like Coltopi's ability taken 2 or 3 levels higher. The personality suggestion and the random materialization that you just came up with, I think, would go a long way to make it work.

Dreams and the afterlife of HxH are really vague, but it is definitely specialization (don't know why I forgot to type that). The sarcophagus idea comes from Greed Island Card 31 - Double Postcard to the Dead (Address and mail this return postage-paid postcard to a deceased person, and you will get a reply the next day. A book of 1000). So I figured it would be possible with strict conditions for communication with dead spirits.

As far as the nen ability with the healing and one of the techniques being a sort of poison goes, I would think that a poison like ability would not fit an enhancer. Healing works because nen is used to enhance an existing process in the body. However when it comes to a nen that acts like poison it is not the same scenario. What process would be enhanced so as to create the poison effect? Such a thing would not work as nen on its own is not poisonous and it does not quite work that nen used to reinforce would create a poison effect. I guess it is within the realm of possibilities to enhance an actual poison however outside of that the only alternative I would see to a nen that causes a poison like effect is transformation. Another scenario would be to use nen to make it react with quemicals within the body to create a poison rather than making a poison directly however that would in all likelyhood be a form of transformation too.

As for diamonds, I have to burst your bubble but it is overall not all what it is made out to be. A diamond is not really that resistant to impact, that is a HUGE misconception. If you guys don't believe me then feel free to grab your mom's wedding ring diamond and smash it with a hammer to see what happens. On the upside of this horrible, HORRIBLE idea, your moms would not have 1 diamond but really many tiny molecule sized ones lol...Anyways, I guess within the context of a manga this would actually work as diamonds in manga tend to fit their popular misconceptions. I would also argue in HH there should be stronger materials and way to transmute better ones.
