oo nga, cannot be ata yun before third grade or something.

speaking of bullying though, nabully din ako. And I think as a reaction to it, naging bitch ako sa college lol. My college friends could never believe, given the resultant personality I had, that I was the type that could endure bullying.

I was a small kid with a piercing voice, always had pigtails, brainy, at walang baon lol. Such a target for bullies.

The girl who bullied me in grade school, Rhea, was an illegitimate daughter of a 70-year old man and his young mistress. She transferred to a different high school and got knocked up by the school janitor.

The girl who bullied me in high school got expelled for cheating in the exams (she would not show up on exam days, have her lackeys steal test papers, and force us smart kids to answer the said papers, and she would keep them in her pocket during the make-up exam since the school used the same test questions). She was discovered when I accidentally said something to a teacher. She retaliated by pushing me to the ground in front of everybody in school.

During the expulsion, her father from overseas came home to meet the teachers, and beat her face up. :oh I realized she had much more problems to deal with.

wow. that was so much drama from where you came from bb. Me, I just bullied others for the heck of it. No drama at home or somesuch. Just born to be on the wrong side of authority. (But hey, I managed to become the teacher's pet from the first grade to sixth! being diminutive, neat, near-OCD level of attention to detail must've helped)

and wth, no baon? in my time 20 pesos was already alot for a kid like me, and I can only spend what, a quarter of it everyday? so when December comes we buy our own gifts! (well, my mother would exchange the coins we collected for a big bill so they wouldn't end up embarrassed when we pay the cashier with coins. My sister bought a Barbie once, and it caused a long line.)

That reminds me, when I was tutoring kids back in college, when the subject of problem solving where the resulting equations where quadratic in nature came up.

I was at a dilemma whether to introduce the concept of imaginary roots to a 1st year HS pupil, lie and say that there are no roots, or simply give a hint that there are roots, but we'll just imagine they don't exist yet.

If I could have made my own mold, and gotten school credit for it, I would have. But that's just it, schools aren't supposed to penalize kids for being different from their ideal student, they're supposed to nurture and guide kids into fruition. I have little to no belief in the current school system, seeing as it is harshly outdated. Sir. Ken Robinson has explained the theory of divergent thinking over and over again in both TED and RSA, explaining how the current school system no longer works, and that it's actually impeding our progress as individuals.

Here's an abridged and animated version of Sir. Ken Robinson's RSA talk

lol in short kupal ka lang haha. I would have kicked yo' ass if you tried to bully me. -_-;

My mother had a screwed up way of discipline. Tiger Mother, anyone? her grade school children would not be allowed to handle money ("kung gusto mo nang baon, may skyflakes jan..."). When we reached high school, we would be given 200 a month. Isipin mo, 200 a month in the year 2000.

Well, my mother never hesitated to let us read college algebra books in HS though. -_- What a mother, gayahin ko nga yun... except for the baon and boyfriend policies... ("Bawal magka boypren!" = rebellious hidden relationships...)

And so PNoy's response? Abolish Science. :fan

:crying

when I saw my boxes all my rage flew out the window really. I just melted with relief :faint

And a lot of the credit goes to this guy

. Watching him for hours and hours while waiting for the delivery to arrive (10:30 pm???!).

It was a buddha-like classmate who taught me the value of being patient, silent, and virtuous. So I had two sides during my grade school days - insufferable teacher's pet and troublemaker (the side never seen by the teachers.) LOL WTF

WTH 200 a month? That was like, my 4 day's worth of allowance in high school! (Well during the 3rd and 4th year. I was so stingy during the 1st and 2nd year that I refused to accept anything greater than 20 pesos in daily allowance, even when I had to commute quite often) But still, surely your mom made it up for you during college right? I mean, sending you to Manila to (potentially) become an 'iskolar ng bayan'...

Well, in college, we did, I'd have to say, live the good life.

Pero I still think there was a big flaw to how she raised us with that kind of background. Virtually financially incapacitated for the first 15 years of your life, even when going out with friends, then all of a sudden sa college bibigyan ka ng monthly allowance, living away from home without anyone to tell you "no".

That made us daughters very... impulsive spenders. I had a very hard time adjusting and controlling my urges because for so long my wants were suppressed. Inisip ko bat ako magtitipid, e tinipid na ako buong buhay ko.

Instead of instilling a value of frugality, the psychology messed us up.

It took me... another ten years to finally learn to say no to myself when it came to shopping.

@bb watch this program from bbc: Chinese tiger moms, u wouldn't believe what kind of training rearing the Chinese have... I have quite a number of Chinese friends here bec most pinoys here are either mid aged or too busy young adult students, anyways it made me understand them more haha my Chinese friends..

On another note, I was very much like that, grew up in the countryside with very little money all the time, then moved to makati to study and I had serious issues with spending (till now actually) and my classmates used to laugh at my Tagalog as it was very regional and malalim, and barely spoke English haha

@ mangadictus which county u at?

My highschool allow was I think 20 a day on my first yr 30-40 on my 3rd-4th yr

lol u guys. only in the last 3 years have I decided to spend for myself. "forget piracy, this one's practically a bargain!" then i learned all activision triple-a titles are overpriced. :(

and i almost never, ever buy my own clothes (only shoes, and quite sparingly at that), because of all the senses the Maker has bestowed upon me, fashion sense isn't one of them.

I wonder if you ever read "Train Man"?

Anyway, buying your own clothes is the very first step to learning your own style.

cebu is fine already, I think. I hope Iloilo is okay.
