Nice to see Sket Dance in second, the series definitely deserves it even though I can't judge the latest chapters.
Sad to see that all the new series are at the bottom but I guess it's to be expected. Koisome and Bulge are decent but you probably need more to compete against all the old the series and suprisingly good new series like Nisekoi and HQ.

Assasination classroom second again? I understand that it's the editors who placed it there, but it's still remarkable.
That's what I think so too, can't remind a time when I saw an unrated series in second for two consecutive weeks. At least it means that Jump really wants to promote the series.

I wish Ichigo was in the cover. He would probably have had a straw hat with a black band which would have looked awesome. I like Toriko's straw hat the most though, thats a very nice shade of blue.

Anyways the rankings are the same as before for the last couple of weeks even with Bleach missing. Not to sad about anything except Kurogane. Beelzebub could be higher though.

Its gonna be a boring next week with no jump.

The cover is kind of disappointing. One Piece is simply too big that it really does obscure everything else. Its kind of like the characters' sizes are representational of how popular each series is, like an info graph. :P

Well, the reason OP is so big is because it's the One Piece 15th anniversary.

Popular series were always privileged in Jump, just remember the Big 3 with Luffy, Ichigo and Naruto or now the new Big 3 with Toriko.^^

And as kewl0210 mentioned, there is an obvious reason for why Luffy is so big, they got to celebrate a fifteenth anniversary of a WSJ series, the most successful at that. :) Only Kochikame and JoJo come to my mind having achieved such length there.

Nisekoi part is already pretty noteworthy, seems to have achieve quite an importance to the editorial department of jump.

I'm appreciating how Bossun and Oga have been placed slightly closer to the foreground compared to previous all-star covers. ;)

Definitely. I also think Matsui Yusei's familiarity and experience play a factor in its consecutively high rankings. Editors will be more comfortable with veterans, of course.

I don`t think that toriko is in the big 3 anymore. HxH and Kuroko sold a lot more.

Really? :fail

1. Sales are not everything.

2. Kuroko didn't sell more than Toriko, it's actually a bit below. Even if it would sell more, how can you say Kuroko, a bottom dweller for most of the time which sold decent but nowhere near Toriko's sales, could surpass Toriko, a constantly high-ranked series which sells really good, with just one volume that "might" sell a bit more for the first time?

3. Hunter x Hunter is one of WSJ flagships, without a doubt. It could take that spot besides Naruto and One Piece if Togashi would stop taking breaks. He won't though so there's no point in speculating.

4. The big 3 are something that the western fans made up anyway, the authors probably care shit about it as long as their manga is popular and has good sales.

Selles are everything. SHUEISHA is a company. And i don`t think they give a F$ck about the TOC. If something is making money for them they will keep it. And look at kuroko. volume 17 sold around 250k for 3 monts and the new 18 is over 300k for 3 weeks. Kuroko will outsold Toriko for sure.

Yeah sure they give a fuck about how the series ranks :s WSJ is the one magazine that cares the most about the rankings. If a series constantly ranks bad there's nothing that can save it, just look at Shaman King or Mago. Don't even want to talk about new series like Double Arts which sold really well right from the start but still got cancelled because of its ranks. Series which sell well usually get a special treatment but eventually they will be cancelled or moved too. As far as I know every constant bottom dweller had to leave the magazine at some point, no matter the sales.

Nothing to say about Kuroko, that's pure speculation. Let's see how the next volume sells.

You guys really need to stop talking about volume sales when the subject is the ranking.
We are talking here about the Weekly Shonen Jump, not the Shueisha. And, to WSJ, the ranking is the most important thing. If volume sales were important in this subject Ichigo's spot wouldn't be replaced by Toriko. But it happened because the public of the magazine are prefering Toriko instead Bleach. This is not related to volume sales because people who buy the volumes not necessarily read the magazine.

So vampirekiller, what you said doesn't make sense here.

Exactly what I was saying:

naruto-niichan said:
Yeah sure they give a fuck about how the series rank :s WSJ is the one magazine that cares the most about the rankings.
And that's not just regarding the "guys" on the cover but goes for the whole magazine. Probably the only magazine where something like a constant competition exists. And while I agree with you it still is a fact that the ranks and sales are going hand in hand to a certain extent, they do influence each other.

Anyway, the subject changed to sales the moment vampire killer mentioned "sales are everything" which is just not true. Everyone saying only the ranks or sales matter doesn't really know WSJ and it's history.

I wonder if Bleach not being in the actual issue had anything to do with Ichigo not being included on the cover...same goes for Gon.....:imslow

You're on the right track. :) Ichigo is missing because Bleach is absent in that issue. The editors collect the manuscript and the cover/colour page (for whoever is doing them) at the same time.

I'm afraid to inform you but Weekly Shounen Jump is a business. The goal of a business is to make money. Individual manga only make money when released as tankobon. Making money takes absolute and total precedent over rankings at all times. Fortunately the vast majority of series that rank well also sell well, while the titles that sell well generally poll well. When series poll poorly but sell well we have clear, direct, and indisputable evidence that sales take precedent. Mago lasted four years, had an anime, and will have additional chapters published in Jump NEXT. To Love Ru also lasted four years, was also animated, and was revived in SQ less than a year after ending in Jump. Ranking certainly does matter. Both series would still be serialized had they ranked higher. But it would be horribly naive to believe that sales were not Jump's first, last, and everything. Money talks and bullshit walks. On the rare occasions that a manga makes money but ranks poorly, sales sustain serialization where other series would be canceled.

You might be reading to much into this weeks cover art. To go by the cover, Toriko is second only to One Piece. Naruto is no more popular than Sket Dance, Nisekoi, and Beelzebub. We all know that Naruto is a multi-media empire, clearly the second most popular title in Jump. If popularity could properly be judged based on the cover, then Naruto would be the second largest character on the cover.

Toriko does sell quite a bit more than Kuroko. It's sold a ton more total, and more overall in each volume. Also Kuroko's anime is ending soon, it's not a long-running one. Which will probably hurt it after the hype dies down. Toriko has consistently sold really well, getting to 400K in the first 5 weeks or so. Kuroko's been selling around 200K each volume until the anime came out, where it boomed in popularity. Now, even after that, it's still been selling less than Toriko by a a few thousand in the short term of that last volume that came out. It's not selling BETTER by any stretch of the imagination unless you count that a lot of people started buying the whole series when its anime came out, so it tends to explode when that happens. Though it generally doesn't continue for the long term. People discussed this before, usually a series does really well when it has a movie or anime coming out, and then it dies down to a "regular" sort of rate when it ends. A good gauge for how well a series is doing is how well it sells on the Oricon charts right when it comes out, which Kuroko is certainly doing well with. But it's not at the same rank as Toriko, it just isn't. If you want to see how well Kuroko will do in the long term, see what sales it gets after the anime has ended in... 6-7 weeks I think.
