I agree, he is a player that works incredibly well in specific systems. His best form came when the really attack minded Scolari was in charge. He bombed forward and gave the team width and options while his defensive lapses were covered by others. Once Scolari was sacked, he was not given as much freedom and had more defensive duties. It was not his forte and he had no one covering his mistakes every time he rushed forward. When he got injured and Ivanovic converted to rightback, Chelsea suddenly had a defender that could defend and keep the structure of the back four intact. That was more important to them than the attack minded Bosingwa.

A similar situation occurred with Eboue and Sagna. Sagna was the more solid defender even if Eboue was better going forward. Eventually Eboue became like bosingwa, a bit part player until he moved on a couple of seasons later.

Still Bosingwa in his first 6 months in England scared the living daylights out of me. >_>
I remember when Robben was at Chelsea... anytime he had the ball I was scared shitless. He was so much better at Chelsea imo. Gave all the defenders a hell of a time in those seasons lol

Indeed. Ever since Robben left, we never really had a midfielder who could get it done in the same way. I mean, Lampard became an incredible CAM for a while, but we had zero width. We just swarmed forward and physically assaulted other teams.

Robben hasn't been impressive at all at Bayern. Hazard looks as if he might be a great CAM for us, but we still lack width as Mata's more a LM/CM and whoever's on the right usually is more of a CM/RM, than an actual RW. We acquired Victor Moses to have some width, but I don't know when we'll ever see him.

Marin's not really a winger though. He's more a LAM/RAM, and for us, a substitute LAM/RAM most likely.

Just because you can play someone that way in FIFA doesn't mean that it actually translates to real life. Chelsea has a lot of attacking midfielders, but the only winger we have is Victor Moses.

I don't know if you've watched Chelsea play this season, but we've gone completely through the center and there's been virtually no width at all. Mata drifts too far into the center a lot of the time and Hazard just floats around (while he's been impressive and may attack from the outside) and is a CAM. I still don't know what we're doing with Oscar.

Moreover, I saw Marin play for Werder Bremen last season. While it was bitterly cold out, around -15 degrees C, Marin wasn't at all impressive.

This is why I can never watch Chelsea play... they have no kind of playing style or organisation. It's like watching 11 players play for their self... though that is changing.

Hey, in last year's CL SF and Final, it was 10 men behind the ball and Torres standing a few feet beyond the edge of the box.

Hazard's giving our midfield more organization, but it's a work in progress.

Yeah I know... I meant it started changing when Di Matteo took charge.

I wonder why Liverpool has been sucks for the last couple of years. Brendan Rodgers was a good coach and tactician when he was still in Swansea, hence the nickname "Swanselona". Liverpool players are not really that bad either, but it seems that during the match most of the time they failed to use many good opportunities or has a really really bad luck. (Skrtel epic fail against Man. City came up in my mind)

I'm glad that finally police do something for Hillsborough tragedy.

Well, it's a bit weird that we dominate almost every single game and still drop points simply because we never scored. We hit the post more than any other team in the EPL and had the lowest conversion record. We also had the best defensive record up until the last few games. So it is a bit weird that we had a "bad" season last season. Though I for one think it wasn't so bad since we are rebuilding from scratch. If we can just finish our chances, we have a pretty good chance of winning the title. Hell, we don't have a bad record against the "big" clubs at all. I'm confident though that with the likes of Sterling,Allen, Sahin and possible Assaidi we can pull something off.

Well, you've had no one up front at all. Suarez wasn't the same after the eight game suspension for the Evra thing and freaking Andy Carroll can't score. The other problem is that your attacking midfielders aren't goal scorers on their own.

That snub by Ferdinand on Terry. Hahahaha. I never get tired of it.

City and Chelsea draw, two points difference between 1st and 4th now. Chelsea, United, Arsenal, City.

How about Giroud? he was an awesome player in French league. It's not surprising that he needs some time to adapt to the EPL climate, though.

I think Giroud will score some goals later into the season. He reminds me of Kuyt, puts in a lot of work but don't always score. Podolski has convinced me to put him in my CL Fantasy team :D He has really surprised me thus far.

Looks like Liverpool are set to hit the post more than any other team this season again :( We hit it like 3-4 times against Sunderland... bad luck + lack of a master finisher.
Anyone doing any Fantasy football? My CL team:
Buffon - Lichsteiner - Pique - Kompany - Ozil - Pirlo - Yaya Toure - Gotze - Messi - Farfan

I just wanted to do a 2-2 comparison lol. When he was playing for Montpellier he showed that he's a great player. Eventually, he'll play like that in Arsenal (at least that's what I want lol).

I'll do mine after the first CL matches, but Casillas and Messi already have a place in my team.

Are you intending to make a fantasy wrestling team? :derp

Jokes aside, Pepe's performance now is not as good as his early years performance. Barcelona defense line would be better if they don't have Valdes as a goalkeeper.

It's one of those things that have been thrown around; "If Casillas played for Barca; they'd be complete" "If Messi was Spanish, they would be complete"
