I don't think anyone would disagree with Akatsuki from part 1 being the best villains Kishimoto could have thought of, but failed ultimately with his change to Peace-no-Jutsu/TnJ as the overall theme of the series.

dude the akatsuki in part 2 was awesome also , until pain went all pussyfied on us and then tobi followed suit

other than tobi and pain the rest of the akatsuki was BOSS

Konan ended up being the only disappointment. Zetsu I don't count because he's a dumbed down Hashirama clone, say what you will about Obito, but at least he ended up doing something that actually mattered. Everyone did something that mattered except her which is sad. Literally the only reason that she was there was because of Nagato and Yahiko.

Nagato – blew up the leaf village, led* the organization.
Deidara – captured Gaara and was known as a terrorist
Sasori – captured the third Kage of the sand village, transforming him into a puppet which had the byproduct effect of instigating the second world war.
Itachi – despite ultimately being a spy, still murdered his entire clan.
Kisame – known as the tailed beast with no tail, ultimately helped to get information for the organization.
Hidan – captured the two tails.
Kakazu – fought Hashirama, captured the two tails.
Konan –?

There is really nothing that she accomplished. Unless you want to count almost beating "Madara," and not destroying Nagato's eyes. Her only achievement, gathering that information for so many years amounted to nothing at all. So ultimately I find it really confusing when people praise her. I mean oh she had a really good technique. But it failed to do anything at all. That's the same thing as praising Hinata for the the lion palm when it didn't do anything.

What did we even see from Akatsuki in part 1? Just Itachi and Kisame? That doesn't even count.

Pain may have went out in a shitty way, but his role as a villain was better than any other character.

Itachi and Pain had great potential to be the final villains for Sasuke and Naruto individually, while Orochimaru could have been the ultimate final villain. Itachi was one of the most powerful shinobi, along with Pain, and together both would have been hurdles in power (and ideology/conviction) that Sasuke and Naruto had to overcome to win.

sadly the naruto forum used to be the busiest section on this site, 40 something pages on the chapter discussion thread every week

but alot of posters have either just stopped posting about it, or maybe even dropped the manga, as kishimoto has run this titanic of a manga directly in to an iceberg of obscurity

i am hoping madara can save this ending

I don't know what Madara can do exactly. He's gonna need to pull a miracle (and probably even that won't help).

Hard for people to be active when the chapters aren't that good and there's nothing to talk about. It's basically the same thing now, talk no jutsu, fail, pick back up, attack, fail, talk no jutsu, on and on. I also assume some members may have left because they're too childish to accept others' point of view, like SupremeMod so graciously told us.

I remember back when the chapter discussions used to easily reach 10 pages in two days, and I have 40 posts per page option. That's 400 posts in just two days, easy.

To be fair though, real life probably also has something to do with it. Between school and work, there just might not be time to hang around the forum. That's kind of how it is for me.

it takes all of ten minutes to read a chapter online, even a person in school AND working has time for that

it takes all of ten minutes (or less) to log into MH and post your opinion on a chapter

you can bet your ass that if the writing was better the posters would come

I agree. I have a full time job and about to be finish with school, and I still make time. People make time for what they want to make time for, if the chapters where better people would make time to post about them.

Well sure the writing/storyline is a factor, I wasn't trying to say it wasn't. It ties directly into the issue of someone with only a limited amount of time deciding to spent that time doing something else or having a social life instead of commenting on a mediocre chapter. That's not even considering if they read other series and instead decide to use that limited time to talk about them, or if they spend said time on another forum.

Also, for a few of the past chapters, the polling did show that the number of people who clicked how much they liked or disliked a chapter was more then the actual number of people who posted comments.

Those were not ancient times, it was during the current arc that Naruto lost it's 'poster' base, the bad story is definitely one major reason. We shouldn't forget the users themselves though too. Most of us are people who have grown up with DB, OP, Naruto etc,, most of us are in the mid-twenties, finishing school/college, so the may lose focus and move on to other important things. Certainly not impossible to still participate in discussions, but there is more than one reason to stay away too.

True, there are a lot of things people are doing atm, especially ones who were active back in the day, but this is not a reason for the lack of discussion (not much of it anyway). I used to go on the Naruto thread almost everyday, the debates back then were so much more interesting and intense and you could see the passion in some people through their posts.

Now, I visit the thread maybe once every two weeks or just on Wednesday to see the reactions of the chapter and chuckle a little. I tend to spend more time on One Piece and Bleach threads seeing as they are infinitely more interesting than Naruto is in the recent year(s).

Naruto has become a pile of dung compared to what it used to be, only reason I believe a lot of us still read it is due to our long affair with it and wanting to stick it till the end.

i will agree to this statement for this reason

the REGULAR posters that have been frequently posting in the naruto forum for the last few arcs, used to have way more posts each in the chapter forum

honestly your lucky to see two or three of my posts in a chapter thread these days, i can remember posting more than 30 times in one single chapter thread, and when i didnt have time i would still make time because the story or what was going on was just too fascinating i had to talk about it with you guys

i wasnt even the biggest spammer either,

so i believe accross the board, both frequent and occasional posters are posting less in the naruto forum, and those who once found the time somehow to post alot, are only posting a little
