I should read Grand Jump just to see if I like it. Though it took me a while to warm up to WYJ beside Nejimaki. Now I generally like most of the mag. I guess it helped that I started to force myself to read non furigana'd series so I could practice translating Nejimaki.



I agree with you on Young ace. I read Blood Lad in there and am surprised despite being a 'Young' magazine that it has furigana. I wonder what the deal is with that? I've never read Comic Alive though.

I'll look for GX raws, and hope that the Nejimaki chapter ends up in a volume at some point. I'm not dying to read it, though it would be nice. I've been trying not to download online raws for Nejimaki since I intend on buying like six volumes at once around Christmas time, but It's gotten me curious as to how long the series could go? At least in the last chapter I read two months ago, it looks like they're visiting the past of a certain someone....

I'd probably do the same thing and just buy a bunch of volumes, but the store I go to jacks up the prices so much that I really can't afford to buy anything other than what I really, really want so it's harder to experiment and find new series. There's a used bookstore around the corner that has stuff for cheap, but they never have what I actually want... Anyway, I think the reason Young Ace has furigana is that it really is meant to be a borderline magazine between shounen and seinen. The few series in it that are actually what I'd call really mature (Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service and some other one with a title that I don't actually know how to pronounce) actually don't have furigana, so I think it's like saying "Here's a bunch of slightly seinen series that are easy to read, and here's a few that you get for free with them to practice on." I'm actually not sure if Comic Alive does anything like that, but Dengeki Daioh and Dengeki Maoh both have series with and without furigana, although one is shounen and one is seinen.

I think it is most likely after Beshari Gurashi serialized 10 chapters. It looks like three irregular series (Liar Game, Beshari Gurashi, and Hibi Rock) kind of switching places with each other.

Nejimaki is being scantlated thanks to yours truly and the scantlators at Mangaunlimited. The first....11 are out? It might be 10. They (the scantlators) say they don't have the staff to go faster but it's something to cut your teeth on until you have cash to buy volumes yourself. I have the first 8, but am waiting till December to buy 9-12 along with the new volume of Anagle mole which comes out on Dec 18th. (I'll also be buying the Kyousogiga manga, (which also has no furigana) but that's neither here or there.)

What's interesting is that sometimes WSS series will sometimes drop furigana in the middle of a sentence. Like here for example in chapter 39 of Anagle mole's bottom panel. Or here in the bottom panel. I haven't seen this phenomenon in Jump, nor in Magazine, and it's the same in the Anagle tanks and even the Ueki ones I bought. It's like the opposite of seinen mags where there's no furigana unless something has a different or weird reading.

But yes topic. I wonder who they'd get to even voice characters in a possible Nejimaki Vomic? I still think it's totally unfair it hasn't even gotten that much.

Ah. Yeah Kaizou said that just now too. I guess it makes sense, but I just don't ever recall the dropping of furigana in WSJ series. I only started seeing the dots and stuff when I started reading Sunday and Gessan series. Though I suppose maybe I just wasn't looking hard enough. (Thanks for noticing the work on Anagle. It's definetly good it's back.)

Well, I believe you only read Gintama from WSJ, maybe that's why. If you read other series as well, then you should see this phenomena in other series as well.

I kinda think that Nakayama really wanted to do a battle manga from the start, but since two of those failed for him, he decided to start with a harem-ish series in Nejimaki and only shifting gears when the fanbase had accepted it. I read One piece, and read Sket Dance when it was around, and I still don't remember seeing that happen. I also translated Neuro for awhile too.

Yes, there are lots of phenomena, but not just for those series. But, I can't provide example since that is a big work for me.

Yes, Gokukoku no Brynhildr is getting an anime. And I think there are high possibility for Tokyo Ghoul and Terra Formars as well. As for newer series, Hamatora is a comicalization so we going to see its anime on next year; I wonder how well Kakuriyo Monogatari going to do since it is by well known series; and, it looks like Gunjou Senki is getting a good reception.

Young magazines are for young people. Ki-oon a French editor which specialises in such series even consider it as a demographic

There's only really like 4 series I'm super hot for at the moment (Masaya Tokuhiro's Koumon-sama, Araki Joh and Osamu Kajisa's Bartender a tokyo, Hikaru Yuzuki's Matataki no Sonya, and Tomohiro Yokaku and Shuji Takeya's Smoking Gun), but other people seem to like Wallman so there could be that too. To be honest I might just be saying those 4 because I am terrible at reading kanji and it takes me so long to read any given chapter, but still, i recommend those ones, at least.

Oh and Otome no Teikoku, on the Grand Jump website, because why *not* recommend a series that is basically just highschool girls giggling and being perverse. It's... something.

Though I don't think that I'm that much of a Sunday-holic. I just tend to gravitate towards series from it.

Ah. I'll look out for it when it starts then. I wonder what made him make the jump from Shogakukan to Shuiesha? Though Nakayama sorta did the same thing....well in his case he went Shuiesha--->Shogakukan---->Shuiesha again.

Well, Nakayama left Shuiehsa because Monthly Shounen Jump was ended; so, I think he originally wanted to stay in Shueisha.

Ah yeah. It's a shame too since his Monthly Shounen Jump series got axed when the magazine ended....I would have liked to see that one go on longer. Seems like he's found a pretty good stride with Nejimaki though.
