Not many people, within Japan or internationally, seem to have watched long enough to find out. It is a good manga, if a little melodramatic, and deserved better. Aku no Hana was not a famous manga when it was adapted to anime. I imagine that anime was the first time many people heard about, or saw, the series. Not the most flattering introduction. I imagine many anime fans were turned off, and never gave the manga a chance. I also think that the animation took away from the seriousness of the story. It would have been better as a drama, or movie, with real people, if they did not want to use traditional anime art. The rottoscoping came across as gimmicky, rather than innovative.
